Well I think that goes into a completely new topic of how schools are funded, how that funding is managed, how teacher talent is acquired and how crappy teachers are jettisoned. I agree, that part needs an overhaul. At the root of the issue we're discussing though, it all comes down to how much parents involve themselves in their child's education. Parents who do not have the option to homeschool can still be very involved (and that doesn't mean calling the teacher to ask them why Johnny can't read). Education is a joint effort on the part of teacher, parent and student.

Not everyone has the time or income to homeschool or pay for private school. Plenty of parents who fit that category have kids who get an education, go to college and become productive members of society. That wouldn't otherwise happen if they never received an education to begin with. It isn't one or the other. That's the problem with these debates; it's either one side that says if you don't homeschool your kids you're a crappy parent, and the other saying if you do homeschool your kids they're gonna turn out to be all f**d up. For crying out loud, people do stuff differently. Your solution may not be the best for every situation and vice versa.

Well, no. I mean, it's great for some people that have the ability to do it, but not everyone can, so to suggest a person doesn't care about their kids if they send them to public school is absurd. Believe it or not, very smart and capable kids do well in school every day. Just because a bunch of sh**heads come out of the same institution doesn't make them all guilty of being sh**heads by default.

The numbers aren't in dispute, but the problem with those numbers is that it ignores very relevant variables. The main one being the involvement of parents. Obviously, parents who homeschool are very involved in their child's education. Not just because they are the ones teaching them, but also that they have made such a conscious decision on their child's education and future. In public school you have a very wide ranging level of involvement of parents; some that are very involved, some who could care less and then everyone else in the middle. The parents who are very involved will likely have kids who will do well in public school. The folks who use public school as a day care center won't have the same results. You see?

MO Cop to open-carry chicks: "Show me your papers!"
TMF replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Even if this had been in TN, and it wasn't, the only thing the officer should be doing is validating their permit and then get in with his day, not sit there and play thirty questions with someone doing nothing wrong. -

That's the thing, they did show ID and the cop continued to be a dick and harass them. They weren't breaking the law, he knew they weren't breaking the law and yet he continued to be unprofessional and rude. What it boils down to is the cop had a chip on his shoulder, didnt like that they were armed and was attempting to legislate from his badge. He deserves to be on a desk making coffee for real cops. -
^^^ What he said. I suppose you could chance it and continue to drive and carry on your IN permits, but it would be breaking the law. Hard to prove, but from experience I can tell you that cops may try to gig you on that. They tried getting my wife on that one and had to be explained how the law works for military stationed in Tennessee. I don't think it is too far fetched for a cop to figure out that you are in fact a resident if he stops you.

Ha, I figured "itch" was an acronym for whatever wacky carry permit he had.

Do you live here? Do you have a driver's license issued from TN?

I'm not convinced these girls went out fishing, as it seems the video doesn't start until they are approached. Honestly, with some of the crap that goes on I don't think it is a bad idea to record encounters with LEOs, especially when one of them shows up with an M4 at the ready like in this video. Really? Is that necessary for a group of young girls eating lunch and bothering no one to show up with rifle at the ready? Then there is the part where this cop acts like a total dick. That is also unnecessary. Yes, someone called the cops so he as compelled to investigate, but had he been half as courteous as the citizens he was investigating there would have been nothing remarkable about this video. I'm not the kind to go pick fights with law enforcement, but if this monkey would have approached me in this manner it would not have ended well for either of us. I'm not in the mood to be treated like that by an over zealous douche hammer who thinks his badge makes him all powerful. This is the guy that gives good cops a bad rep. -
Thanks for this. I leave for prolonged periods of time, so I coat my firearms with a healthy coat of a thick viscosity CLP. It holds up very well against rust, but as it dries it becomes very sticky, attracts dust and has to be cleaned off. I'm gonna grab some of this stuff and use it from now on.

It was funny to see the "grass is always greener" behavior. We have a 6-7 acre barnyard adjacent to the front yard of the house. We use the barnyard for a nursery for mom and calf for a few months. While in the barnyard you'll see mom sticking her snout through the holes in the fence to get at the grass in the front yard. About once a week we let them into the front yard to mow the grass down and you'll see them back at the fence after a few hours trying to get at the grass on the barnyard side of the fence. I figured that's where the "grass is always greener" saying came from.

Before 15 years ago when my family started breeding in butt heads ours were terrible about tearing up old fencing with their horns to get to the greener grass on the other side. No matter where we'd put 'em, they'd always want what was on the other side of the fence. Every so often they'd bust a hole in the fence and get out. Now none of them have horns, so no breakouts.

I'm all for capitalism too, but I also believe that there is such a thing as ethics in capitalism. Ethics are a subjective thing, but I generally think we all can look at something and come up with the determination of what's right and what's wrong. CTD has done some very wrong things, in my opinion. Perhaps there are many people out there who disagree that their practices were unethical, but I don't see how they can be logically defended. The day following (or perhaps even hours following) the Sandy Hook shootings CTD jacked up their prices on certain items by 10 times the normal cost. They then contributed to the panic by having advertisements suggesting these will be banned. To me, that is a company who is attempting to make money on dead kids. Sorry, that's how it simply boils down. I won't give my money to people like that. As far as I'm concerned they can all rot in hell.

Do you never take it out of the holster? I've never had this issue, but I unholster mine each day to lock it up (I have small kids) in the bedside safe. I would imagine that the body moisture and salts get absorbed onto the holster, so it would make sense that it would cause rust if exposed to that for prolonged periods.

I'd have to take out a 2nd mortgage for the ammo to shoot it. I've shot my fair share though in the past. I think it'll be more sad due to the history of the weapon and longevity. Kinda neat that my Grandfathers, great uncles, uncles and dad all worked the same machine gun over the past 70-80 years in various theaters.

Geez man, sorry to hear. My wife would not be handling this well either.

Midway just sent out an email priced around this for .308 and green tip. CTD is Fredo to me.

Dear God, how did some of us survive childhood? In the mornings I see parents stacked deep at almost every bus stop. I get their concern, but really? There are half a dozen kids at the bus stop. Is someone gonna be able to kidnap half a dozen kids? Is someone gonna drive up, snatch one as the others watch? Doesn't make much sense.

I bet the kid of the father who complained is just loving his new social life. -
Yeah, I agree. Somehow I don't think the black family that lives down the street from me would start killing whitey if a race war broke out, and I can bet my white neighbors aren't gonna be going down to the black folks' house to vice them trouble. It's all socioeconomic. The difference is that black "have nots" are generally centrally located into one area, whereas white "have nots" are spread out all over the place. I come from trailer park central, and I figure that if you took all those people and put them in the projects it would look just the same as a black ghetto, only with white folks slinging meth on each corner rather than black folks slinging rocks.

Proof that these animals will target the percieved weak. Also proof that having a firearm is an equalizer, whether you be weaker than your attacker or disabled.
