1.
Also mag changes and malfunction drills. And all done cheaply without firing a shot.
Yes. I'll admit, I've gotten lazy on mag change drills since I usually don't carry a spare mag on me. I incorporate slap/rack/bang drills into my draw/presentation/sight acquisition drills though. All trying to build upon muscle memory. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2.
There're unstable people everywhere which makes me wonder why they don't do psychological evaluations in MEPS.
I think they do. I recall folks getting bounced outa MEPS when I processed. Pretty easy to hide crazy there I suppose. Once a person is around others for 24/7, it tends to come out. I recall going to the DS with my battle buddy during rifle marksmanship to report a member of the platoon who acted like the dude from Full Metal Jacket. The DS said the guy was pretending so he could get discharged. The dude had a meltdown not too long after that and spent the rest of his time in a road guard vest with a suicide guard on him 24/7 until he was booted out. For all I know he went on a rampage or killed himself in the civilian world, and they likely said he was crazy because of his "service". Thing is, if he hadnt had his meltdown, he would have ended up in a unit and done God knows what. If he'd a stayed in long enough to when the war started he may have done some crazy things. I think it's hard sometimes separating the looneys from the malingerers when you have so many joes and a mission to accomplish. That's why folks slip through the cracks and make it in to the military when they have no business being there. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3.
That's a subjective statement. The Marine Corps didn't have me spend 90% of my time sitting around dry-firing for sure, and neither did the police department nor the academy. Surviving the real thing is what trained the best hence one of the reasons why newby's are not valued in a combat zone. So following that logic practicing in an environment that is as close to the real thing as possible is what's effective: however, not something the average gun owner can afford.
Draw, presentation and sight acquisition can all be practiced dry. Sight acquisition, in my opinion, is the most important thing to learn in order to accurately put rounds on target. I've shot a whole bunch. I routinely practice dry drills. It is a great tool for training. When I go to the range, the muscle memory built upon dry drills is beyond noticeable. This gets into the subject of combat shooting versus target shooting. Two completely different things. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4.
It may have been sarcasm; but my point was that, while we all know criminals disregard the law (duh), and so it's reasonable to assume that SOME felons are carrying weapons, I think it's also reasonable to assume that a measure of them that right NOW don't carry a gun because of whatever conscience they have left will feel like they have a "pass go" card. I am not going to say crime will increase; in the other states that have this, I'm not sure there has been an increase in crime. I just think the permit process is a good move, and not 100% sure circumnavigating it is a good idea.
Everyone has a right to arm themselves for self defense. Felons have had that right taken away by a jury of their peers. As for the rest, they don't deserve to have their constitutional rights limited because they "might" be stupid. That isn't how rights are supposed to work. It isn't up to you or I to decide that, or at least it shouldn't be. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5.
I neither doubt PTSD is real nor that it's confined to the military: however, the military has a responsibility to identify those who have it and take control of those with it who are active. The chain of command can recognize it and limit someone's right to carry on base while they are struggling with it. In the recent shooting the guy was a driver who was deployed for a very short time. I don't know the specifics, but there are many more men and women who endured a LOT MORE and who have not shot-up their fellows.
The individual in question had no combat related mental issues. He was just a garden variety looney bird. Same as the ones I'm sure you encountered when you were in. Think about how many guys in basic ended up on suicide watch at one point or another when you went through. Problem is now, folks are so quick to attribute a looney in uniform as someone who is that way because of the work done in uniform. You and I know different. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6.
The crime rates will skyrocket if any felon is allowed to carry.
I think you're confused. This bill would not allow felons to carry handguns. Considering that felons aren't allowed to possess them in the first place, anyone making any mention of felons in regard to this bill need to remember that criminals will do what they do without respect to the law. That's why they're called criminals. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I've got a good honey mead recipe, had a bottle a few weeks ago and was very good. (It was also 30 years old)
I'm going to do another batch this summer with some orange blossom honey from a family friend in Florida. Not that I'm an organic weirdo or anything, but this will be straight from the beehive to the bottle. The last batch of mead I made with store bought honey, which I'm pretty sure was corn syrup. Didnt turn out too great. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  9.
Agreed Ted. I think the people who will benefit from this is the people who would like to carry a handgun when they go hunting or camping but don't carry on a regular basis and can't justify the class and permit. But beyond that I wish we could get to constitutional carry, I understand the concern of the public but if you look at the states that have permit less open carry the crime rates are lower in several cases.
I think he was being sarcastic. AR-15 BCG's?
Maybe I'm just hyper sensitive!
Well I ain't used a can on a piston rifle before, but I suppose it makes a lot of sense that you'd have less chamber spittle coming out of a non-DI weapon. Now that I think about it, I've never been spat on by an AK before. I've been spat on by AR pattern rifles plenty though, and it was always because of too much of that thick CLP they use in the military. You can look at the side of a person's rifle on the range and see all the spatter on the weapon coming from the ejection port as well as the smoke coming off the ejected brass. These, and all the dried oil/carbon on their shooting glasses, were indicators of too much lube. I used a thin viscosity strike hold, which is about as thick as WD-40. I use a light amount and never get spat on. I found that thick lube mixes with desert dust and creates a nasty gunk. With the thin stuff I hardly had to clean my rifle and didnt have smoking cartridges flying out of my port. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  12. Troops carry loaded arms every day in Afghanistan. Why on Earth could they not be trusted to do the same on base in the US? Am I missing something here? I seem to recall being an E-3 in the days following 9/11, having a loaded M-16 with basic combat load and an M9 on my belt, also loaded, standing post at an armory in a downtown area. Also recall transporting weapons across country in uniform and being armed with shotgun + pistol. If I remember correctly, the arms room guy has a loaded side arm at all times. 13. Next argument I expect to hear against this legislation is the cost of all the body bags they'll have to buy for all the deaths from OK Corral shoot outs in the streets. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14.
if you have a carry permit now, you can open carry. It's a carry permit, not a conceal carry permit. So the question is, should any law abiding citizen be allowed to carry a gun without government approval?
Yes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    AR-15 BCG's?

I spent a few thousand rounds out of my MK18 with a KA suppressor on it and never got anything in the face even once. Using a thin viscosity lube, not thick CLP. That's out of a 10.5 barrel. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    AR-15 BCG's?
Agreed, but if you shoot suppressed, you'll get a face full of lube. If you ever want to go quiet, look at a piston setup.
I never experienced this with my suppressed weapon, and I shot a lot. If you're getting lube spat back at you, you're using too much. (they sure don't make them like they used to) It may not be a technically be a "weapon" but I'm fairly certain I could bludgeon someone to death with it if need be.
I'm sorry, but if you actually paid to have sex with any of the individuals pictured, then your poor taste and total lack of standards should be considered a much bigger crime than the actual cash transaction. Whatever happened to the concept of self-respect?
According to the article all those johns were arrested after responding to an ad by police officers. I assume the two nasty hookers they rolled up were arrested by the police posing as johns. Chances are, the hookers that the arrested dudes thought they were purchasing were pictures of attractive women.... a hint that it is a police sting. Places I've been to where prostitution is legal the hookers are actually good looking, disease free and not victims of human trafficking. Yet we seek to demonize johns in our culture which results in underage girls being trafficked, rampant stds and destitute women who will eventually die of an overdose or by an abusive John or pimp. 22.
Mullet are strange. Delicious, yet used more for cut bait and chum. People do catch them on hook and line, but very specialized technique necessary. - OS
Over on the gulf they pick them up with a cast net, and they are sold roadside and smoked. Absolutely delicious. I would argue better than smoked salmon for flavor. I expect to enjoy some in about 30 days. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  23.   This never happened ever.
  24.   Yep.  I don't approve of entrapment as a manner of policing.  It is creating a crime where a crime might not otherwise exist.    Beyond the lazy police work that entrapment is, this whole thing smacks of morality enforcement, which I have an equal issue with.  The police went online and solicited sex in exchange for money, then arrested those who agreed to those terms, then made a point to release the story to the press complete with pictures in order to publicly shame them.  If prostitution is such a crime, why not go after actual prostitutes and pimps?
  25. Article says "crackdown on drugs and crime around exit 4", yet they roll up a bunch of desperate dudes trying to get laid? Good to see the streets are a little safer now? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
