No I don't have a son in uniform, but I spent over three years of my life deployed to that area of the world and fought these people myself. This person was an enemy of the state, and we don't have the luxury of not engaging enemies of the US because we have loved ones shouldering the burden. I can understand what you're saying, but don't mistake me for someone who hasn't sacrificed a great deal for my country and the people in it. And who is giving up Liberty for Safety in this situation? This isn't a constitutional issue at all. I'll say this again, if you don the uniform of the enemy which is at war with the United States, our military can kill you. No trial, no due process... the only law that applies here is the law of land warfare. I can't speak to the dead, but I'm pretty friggin' sure that Ben Franklin didn't have this in mind when he said that.

I think you misunderstand a military operation versus a law enforcement operation. Alawki may have not even been the target here in the first place. So, in what is considered to be a combat zone in which a low-intensity conflict is going on, we kill enemies of the state to which this bombmaker was. There aren't arrest warrants or due process in war. There is intelligence and operations. One drives the other. It doesn't matter if this bomb maker was crashing on Alawki's couch and Alawki was just some innocent goat herder giving him a place to crash. His citizen status is irrelevant. It's not as if the US Military and CIA arbitrarily shoot US citizens in the face. Trust me, they have the best interest of freedom loving US Citizens in mind. Those people running these operations are some of the most freedom loving, red meat eating, gun toting, apple pie loving, wrapped in the Red White and Blue that you will find amongst the citizens of this country.... they just don't wear tin foil hats while they're doing it.

Nevermind... got it.
-
I don't get it. What's the back story on this one?
-
Hahaha! Yeah, people like this make me nervous. I've seen some really dumb stuff happen from people mishandling weapons; I just don't get how a grown man can act like a 5 year old when it comes to firearms.
-
I had a P226 for over 10 years. They're just tough, solid guns. I can't say anything negative about them other than being too bulky for CC. Mine was home defense/truck gun only. I've never owned an HK but have a few buddies with USPs. Fun to shoot and very well made weapons as well. I don't think you can go wrong either way... it's not like you'll get one and think it's a peice of garbage. Try to find a gun shop that carries both and handle them a little to see which is more comfortable to grip. I can bet that both will recoil similarly, unless the HK is really light compared to the 226.

Oh, and the government didn't declare war on this organization. Al Qaeda declared war on the US back in the '90s. We've been returning the favor since September 2001.
-
It is what it is. If you decide to go to France and join their military, then the US goes to war with France, the US government can kill you. It doesn't matter if you're behind a machinegun or changing tires on a 2 1/2 ton truck; you're still a legit military target. I don't like the term terrorist... this guy was a enemy combatant as a member of a paramilitary organization that uses terrorist tactics. Legit target on the battlefield. The manner it was carried out is no different than an ambush. The US military has been doing that since the Revolution. It's not as if we stand up on the ambush line and ask the enemy to surrender first... we just start shooting until all enemy are dead or dying. The fact that this person was an American citizen changes nothing. This wasn't an "assassination"... this was an attack on a legitimate military target.
-
He was a member of a paramilitary organization which declared war on the United States, and had already committed acts of war against the United States. So, let's go back in time to Astan 2001. Remember John Walker. Yes, we captured him because he surrendered after suffering a gunshot wound. Let's just say that I'm looking through my scope at him as he is walking along with his Taliban buddies out in the mountains. Can I shoot him? The answer is YES!!! He is a member of a paramilitary organization at war with the United States. I can shoot any one of the people with him (even if they're walking around without a rifle in their hands) the same as I can shoot him. He was still a US citizen at the time too. Now, once captured he could be tried in US courts, but on the battlefield there is no delineation between him or anyone else. This scumbag was on the battlefield so he's fair game. And to the suggestion that our SOF should have rolled him up, we are at the whim of the Yemeni Gov't in terms of direct action missions involving ground troops in their country. Yemen won't allow us to do it, so he got the justice of a hellfire missle up his a**. He was a viable military target along with the other paramilitary fighters that were with him. It doesn't matter if he was there as an orchestrator of attacks or if he was just their cook, he is still a military target, and now he's a problem that's solved and is staying solved.

In the spirit of the OP, I don't think it's ever a question whether or not OC is a deterrent. Obviously it works as a deterrent in the same way that a security system sign in my front yard keeps away burglars. I think the deterrent factor is independent of the CC vs OC debate since not everyone carries for the purpose of being a deterrent to crime.

Okay dip****, we know you're a stolen valor peice of garbage. You won't admit it but we all know it's true. So I'm going to give you some advice. I have no issue calling people like you out, whether it be over the internet or in person. This is the first one on the internet. I'm going to give you advice that I never gave to your types before, for when you aren't protected by anonymity. Here are some facts: 1. There are people like me everywhere who can sense bullsh*t combat exploits because they have actually been there and done that. 2. We take it personal to the point of making it a physical altercation with the proper amount of bullsh*t mixed with consumption of adequate amounts of alcohol. 3. Someday you will spout your bullsh*t in front of someone like me and it will not end well for you. You will be made to look stupid VERY PUBLICALLY... in front of as many people as possible and may get hurt in the process. Take this advice, it may change your life. I'm out.

Unit; deployment dates; AOR in theatre.... Go.
-
So what is it, huh? There aren't many MOS's you can laterally go to straight from OSUT other than the Qcourse for 18 series. We both know you're a fraud and we both know you're going to continue to dodge REAL questions and focus on the irrelevant. FRAUD! Let's start simple: Unit, deployment dates, AOR in theatre. I can prove to all these people you're a fraud, but I don't think there are any believers of your bullsh*t left. Yeah, I'm taking this one personally, and if you were the person you're trying to portray you would understand why. I promise to let up when you figure out how to commit Seppuku with a frisbee. I can give you some hints if you would like.

"No sh*t, there I was, in the Vally of Nodangtwat surrounded by 3,000 Taliban fighters and all I had left was an MRE spoon. Was I scared? You're damn right I was scared... scared one of those little bastards would get away!"
-
Technically? WTF does that mean? I don't give a flying f*ck what you enlisted to be. What did you do?? I started college majoring in quantum physics, but I'm not a damn scientist because I flunked outa English 101 first year... get me? I met plenty of people in basic that signed Ranger contracts that didn't even make it through p*ssy ass Airborne School! The fact that you chose those words in the manner tells me you're being deceptive, unless you originally signed up for 11X and later opted into an 18X contract (to which if you did I REALLY am curious to hear more b*ll**** lies because I will expose you to everyone here for the fraud you are in a very comprehensive way). You and I both know you're full of sh*t. I didn't care when you were telling tall tales. I found it amusing and maybe a little sad. I've known people like you all through life. What gives me the ass is lying about military service which, without doubt, you have done. People like you disgust me beyond what I can put into words. If your life is so sad you need to steal other peoples stories you should go ahead and suck start your pistol before you do something like procreate.
-
He is not an American citizen. He was an active member of a paramilitary organization that declared war on the United States.
-
Okay, you're full of sh*t. You took two in the "vest"? In all my time in Iraq and Astan I never wore a vest... I wore BODY ARMOR. I think you're a stolen valor piece of sh*t. I come across people like you in the real world and I don't hesitate to call them out. I know what bullsh*t sounds like and I know what reality sounds like; you are speaking bullsh*t... "and then I pulled out my M4A1 with tac light and blah blah BULLSH*T!" You sound like the typical support POG who may have interacted with those that have done something at some point and feel inadequate because you were too much of a p*ssy to go 11B. I hate how people like you lie about your military experience because it takes away from the people who've actually done something. Just so you know, I've been there, done that, have more time in a combat zone then you've been in a uniform and I'll show you my DD 214 if you show me yours.

I agree, not a bad shoot at all. I'm sure that police officer isn't feeling to good about it right now, but in the time it took to read that story we had about 100-200 times longer to think about how he reacted then he did in the split second he had to make that decision.
-
Getting shot a few times would certainly have some accompanying paperwork... unless of course the shooter had Diplomatic Immunity. Man, now I'm in the mood for a Leathal Weaponathon; going on Netflix now.
-
Not exactly an LRAD, but could probably take care of pests and noisy dogs.
-
Maybe he gets that the jig is up.

I agree to not being bossed around or treated as if there is a reason I'm up to no good. I've been asked some of these questions by very professional police officers during stops over the years (one of which I had weapons in the vehicle) and I always answered to the best of my ability. I know I don't have to answer, but I don't have anything to hide so I didn't see any reason to avoid or not respond to a question. Kinda like if I ask you "how many guns do you own?". You can say that you don't have to tell me that but that's kind of a dickish way to respond to a question. I don't have to tell anyone who I voted for, but I have no problem telling anyone who asks. If I didn't I wouldn't say "I don't have to tell you", I would just say "I don't feel comfortable answering that question." I have had one experience where I was treated by a LEO during a stop where I was treated as if I had just robbed a bank or something. I still cooperated to the best of my ability despite his unprofessional behavior. I didn't have to, but I didn't see it ending well if I decided to be difficult. It's not right what he did, so I wrote a letter. Maybe it didn't do any good, or maybe it was another strike against an officer that had a history of abusing authority. Either way, I don't think under any circumstance it's worth it to not answer a police officer's questions just because you don't have to. If you don't have anything to hide or feel uncomfortable discussing I don't see why answering simple questions should be such a problem.

Yeah, I figured the OP was suggesting this was a beacon to be DF'd so you locate the device base off direction and signal strength. If a GPS receiver/engine was to be incorporated in it in order to send lat/long positions via RF signal it would have to be significantly larger. Iridium makes a pretty small engine capable of transmitting to a satellite... small enough to fit in buttstocks of rilfes. However, the power source remains the issue.
-
Yes it is possible to make an RF beacon small enough to put in a weapon. The reason it hasn't been developed commercially for the purpose of tracking weapons is for two reasons: 1. Power: you can supply a 1/4 watt transmitter with 3v and enough mAh to last for a couple of days with some 3032 batteries, but it's transmit range would be VERY limited, not to mention, how would you initiate the beacon going off to indicate that it's stolen? 2. Cost: To make something like this it would cost much, much more than any rifle/pistol I have and I got some pretty nice stuff. There is no secret/classified technology on this. This is stuff that private companies develop for sale to LE Agencies and "Do it Yourself" spies. If the technology existed at a reasonable cost it would be commercially available because someone would make it.
