  1. Clarksville triple shooting case settles in court | The Leaf Chronicle – Clarksville, Tenn., and Fort Campbell | theleafchronicle.com This peice of garbage shot three people in an attempt to murder each one and gets to plead out to three counts of aggravated assault. He'll be out in a few years and will certainly do something like this again. He should be in jail for the rest of his life but gets to plea down because our legal system is too lazy to prosecute. This absolutely disgusts me.
  2. Yeah, I mean it's kind of a joke, but at the same time anyone can sue you for anything. It doesn't mean that they're gonna win, but that's just more butt pain to deal with. My opinion isn't necessarily not to render first aid due to fear of being sued, but more a practical assessment of the reality following an SD shooting. If he is unconscious that quickly after the shooting chances are he's circling the drain anyway and there's very little you can do about it. If he is still conscious I doubt he'll be cooperative, thus putting you at risk if you were to let your guard down, especially if he has buddies that you don't know about lurking around the property. Personally I don't think it's unreasonable to maintain security on the criminal until authorities get there and take control. My biggest concern at that point isn't being sued anyway, it's keeping my family safe.
  3. Wow, I think I just had an accidental discharge.
  4. The Flying Spaghetti Monster isn't real?? NOW I'm offended!
  5. I think this is what my wife is getting me. I'll be sure to give my opinions when i get it.
  6. Actually there are some very good excuses. I voted absentee in the past two Presidential elections because I was wearing an American Flag on my uniform along with approximately 170,000 other voter eligible Americans between Iraq and Afghanistan. This doesn't even include military forces around the world in such places as Germany, Italy, Korea and so on. Also, for those that are not physically able to get to the polling site to stand in line they shouldn't lose their right because of hospitalization or severe disability. There are lots of Americans who fit that category and one of them is a relative of mine. Ha, yeah no worries. This is my new opinion I'm adopting. I've found that even in the face of logic and reason many folks will chose to ignore the facts and focus on nitnoid non-facts to support an illogical stance.
  7. Roger that. I'm a trained shooter, not a trained physician. Better leave that to the EMTs. I don't think any reasonable investigator/DA/jury would hold somebody accountable for not treating a wounded intruder. I'd be more worried about maintaining security in case he decides to become a threat again or if he has buddies. I have a family to worry about. Besides, if you DID just shoot someone and they're still alive, if they're conscious enough chances are they're not going to be very receptive to you treating them.
  8. I'm going to have to investigate this Willett. I'm wondering if they carry it at Mulligan's.
  9. Bringing logic to an illogical argument is like trying to teach a 3 year old quantum physics.
  10. In some cases I wouldn't call it luck as much as I would call it embelishment. I've done some shooting at the 1000m distance and got some hits (talkin' KD range and paper here), but usually it takes a shot or two with someone looking at trace to talk me on. Some of the "cold bore first round" kills that I hear about are beyond the reasonable capability of the rifle in a vacuum on a gun vise; now when you add in all the environmental factors and the shooter/spotter himself....ehhhh I'm gonna lean toward embelishment. I've heard plenty of stories of guys getting +1000m shots on second and third rounds which I think is pretty reasonable. I just can't believe on a 1 MOA weapon system getting a first round kill shot at 1600m. Doing the math there is quite a large margin of error there. Further more, if a bad guy walked in my line of fire and he was anything past 800m I wouldn't bother shooting at him anyway unless security wasn't an issue, because I know there's a good enough chance that I'm gonna have to follow up. It all makes for a good story at the bar though. EDIT: Talking about 7.62 x 51 BTW.... not any of the sexy loads.
  11. I would just like to believe that someone from such distance who would put two rounds in such close proximity exersizes some degree of skill and would be of the presence of mind to have a proper backstop. If it was bubba shooting at beer cans in the woods I don't think the shot placement would put them so close together at a long distance. I'm still curious to hear what the illegal was up to with the weapon.
  12. Neat stuff. I'd like to get back into long range shooting but I would go way overboard on $$$. I'm waiting on one of my buddies to meet a chick that makes him sell off his guns so I can capitalize. Wind is a crapshoot. I would always be sparing on wind calls past 600. Focusing on grass at 3/4 distance was always different than at 1/4 and 1/2... not just varying values but completely different directions some times. During training we stood at the 1000m line while instructors threw out smoke grenades at 200m intervals all the way down the line. Very interesting to see what the wind does.
  13. I think he was suggesting that a crime serious enough to strip a person of their 2nd Amendment rights should be pretty serious.
  14. Well, here's something I was kicking around with the wife a while back when "The Walking Dead" first started: If I gotta place out in the country why not just take the backhoe and dig out a 8 ft trench around the perimeter and make it a little wide? Zombies ain't great problem solvers so I'd probably take them a while to stack up enough undead in my trench before they could climb out and get some tasty flesh. I figured I'd just have a ready made slurry of some kinda napalm substance to burn 'em up while they aimlessly wandered around my trench. This way you don't have to put up triple strand concertina wire and ruin the view, ya know?
  15. Yeah, the first reports I read just stated that sometimes people target practice on nearby lands, and the newer stories have an armed illegal involved. I'd give the benefit of the doubt and say he was huntin' wabbits for some stew, but it's unlikely that two stray rounds would impact in such close proximity to one another. There's more to the story I believe.
  16. Because everyone knows the world revolves around them, and most think they're living in an MTV reality show.
  17. Crap, I went back and read your post and realized I read it wrong.... I thought you said 1 grand a day. Yeah, I'm sure they get paid a little bit more now but not for certain. Sorry for the mistake.
  18. Cat IIIs were still making a killing in 2010. The $200 a month he was referring to were TCNs from Uganda and other countries. I don't know how much they were making near the end, but they sure had some squared away leadership. I'm not sure if that was cultural or if SOC just ran that tight of a ship, but the Ugandas took their role pretty seriously. I imagine working with them was a helluva lot easier than training Iraqis.
  19. Wow. That outlook on our current population makes me want to drink a bottle of draino. I don't disagree at all though. I do think the issue is lack of enforcement. As to my initial question, can the NTSB have any say on anti-texting laws for regular drivers or just commercial?

    Hello

Yeah, the icing on the cake is the TGIFs there. A buddy of mine is a pilot at KAF so I arranged to meet him there while I was around... couldn't believe the inside of that place. Nothing like it anywhere in either theater. Of course, you can't throw a handfull of rocks without knocking out a half dozen field grades, so I do enjoy avoiding that place at all costs.
  21. I've heard talk about apps on smart phones for dope/wind calc/humidity; do you roll with something like that when you're doing long range? I'm still living in the dark ages and have yet to pick up a cell phone made in the past 6 years but I'm gonna get a new iphone in a few months.
  22. I agree with getting an autoloader if that is your ultimate intention. However, I don't believe a pump is that big of a disadvantage. I shuck my cartrige while transitioning to another target which is almost as fast as an autoloader, especially if the targets are spread out enough that the transition and sight picture acquisition from one to the other takes a second. I also like using my pump because there's no trap door to get my thumb caught on during reloads which can sometimes happen with some of the autoloaders when you're trying to reload quick (stupid fingers) so I think I make a little time up there.
  23. Never once did I say that. The only time I mentioned guys in jerseys was to point out to the OP that there ARE guys there that will be decked out and I know that can turn some people off and make them feel out of place. If you read back I mentioned that having a jersey or a sponsor isn't a prerequisite for being a douche bag. But if you want to continue to see what you want that is fine. Don't try to control this board and act like someone elses advice doesn't matter. The world doesn't revolve around you, so if people happen to be turned off my certain things that is okay. You don't get to be pissy about it or question why. Now, mind your own business and get over it already. I'm tired of having to defend what I believe to be reasonable advice given with good intentions.
  24. Ha, yeah I go out to have fun, not to win. I mean, I don't mind winning but if I pull a shot I don't curse myself for it or even care. It's the ones that get out there and just stress about every little shot as if it's such a big deal. I guess if it is to them then they're missing something in life, but I'm not going to be convinced it should matter to me. It takes away from the fun I'm having when I'm forced into an environment of those who take it serious. The only thing serious at these things is safety. I have no issues showing up in a T shirt and jeans, carrying my extra mag in my back pocket and using a pouch of some sort to hold my shells. No one else should have an issue with that either, and when they do it's annoying. I guess there are folks like that in everything, but to me it's a little comical when guys get waaay into it as if they're some kinda super operator; and yeah, that's the part I'm pointing out regarding the tough guy patches and posturing, it's a joke to me. It's just paper. Trust me, if the paper shot back all that cool crap would go out the window.
  25. The estate of the deceased better be ready for a suit for damages to the property and cost of ammo.
