Well this is bad discrimination, not good discrimination. Not hiring a felon is discrimination, but is understandable because they have shown themselves not to be trustworthy. Discriminating against someone with a low IQ is okay too, since they can't perform the duties if they lack the mental capacity. But discriminating against a high IQ would be like not hiring a woman because someday she might get pregnant. The article states that the reason for the discrimination is to prevent turnover. My wife stopped working when we had our first kid. Many women do. That demonstrates the possibility for high turnover. As an employer would it be okay for me not to hire women because of that?

Yeah, this is what I was talking about. I remember that I was told that my ammo had to be downloaded from the mags. Maybe TSA won't make a stink but perhaps if airline personnel see that when you open the box to put in the declaration they could put you on the spot. If you don't have an authorized storage container to put all that loose ammo you might have to kiss it goodbye.

I can't believe the court ruled against him. What's next?.... too much money in the bank account? One could argue that a LE applicant that has a significant amount of money shouldn't be hired because he could easily leave the job due to the fact he doesn't require the income. How would that NOT be discrimination? Having discriminatory policies for the purpose of preventing turnover is ridiculous. Make them sign a contract if that is the concern.

Hmmm... maybe it was the airline I flew a long time ago or TSA changed their rules, but the first time I flew a pistol I was instructed that my mags had to be downloaded. I just checked TSA and it didn't have that requirement on their website.

A 19 year old in the armed forces who is killed in action is not a "kid". He/she is an adult that made adult choices and chose to serve their country. Some scumbag of the same age that decides to threaten the lives of law abiding citizens for the purpose of furthering their criminal enterprise is not a "kid" either. I was 17 years old when I raised my right hand and entered the armed forces. I wasn't even a kid then. F*** these criminals. -
It is not a requirement to separate the firearm from the ammunition so long as they are both in a locked case, correct? It is a requirement to download the magazines though. Whenever I fly I put the ammo in a small ammo box, two mags and my pistol w/ a chamber flag all in the same locked case; TSA has always been okay with that.

If some criminal tried to press charges against me for detaining him I would sink a lot (A LOT) of money into a good lawyer and pursue a civil case against him (oh I can't sleep at night because I was so violated... mental distress... added stress on deployments because I'm afraid to leave my wife alone) and make sure that he wouldn't earn another cent his whole life without having to give me a cut. Hopefully he's getting some good prison lovin' right now.... he doesn't look like he'd last long in lockup without becoming someone's man-love.

Vehicle burglary suspect detained by Fort Campbell soldier | The Leaf Chronicle – Clarksville, Tenn., and Fort Campbell | theleafchronicle.com This one didn't take a weapon with him, but judging by the mugshot he put a few lumps on the suspect. Eventually one of these punks is gonna get some bullets put through them... many of these homes contain women whose husbands are deployed but those women are well armed. I know when I'm gone the ROE for my wife is a lot looser than mine. I don't see a jury convicting a helpless woman protecting two babies because she shot some scumbag that refuses to become a functioning member of society.

D.C. Ordered to Pay $1M in Historic Gun Case - Heller vs DC

How about the part requiring "vision tests" to own a firearm? The Constitution doesn't apply to people without 20/20 vision? It seems like they write these laws without even looking at the base document they were sued under in the first place. -
If he intends to sell it later he won't be able to recoup his losses. However, they are fine guns and if he's anything like me he won't be able to part with his firearms anyway.

It'll be interesting to see how that pans out if that's the route she takes with her lawyer. I wonder how many firearm advocate groups are going to throw their hat in the ring on this one. On another note, no, ignorance is not an excuse. I don't, however, see her getting three years behind bars for something that lacked intent. They can't lock up real criminals that long in New York. EDIT: Brian Haas just mentioned on another thread that police found what is to be suspected cocaine on her person. If this turns out to be true then she is beyond screwed and no one's gonna want to help her. -

Why would there be a "No Guns Allowed" sign at the 9/11 memorial when it's already illegal to possess a handgun in NYC? hmmmmm...... -
On the topic of getting drunk, I believe it is still illegal to carry in bars down there. Best to check into that since when I was down there the only establishments I remember seeing were bars. That's a good one right there!

Soldier Holds Car Burglars at Gunpoint Until Police Arrive
TMF replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Clarification would be great, but I think drawing a weapon is justified; he approached 3 suspects that burglarized his vehicle. It would be unreasonable for him NOT to assume they are dangerous, especially since he's outnumbered. There is no law against recovering your stuff if you see it stolen. If somebody is breaking into my car I'm not going to just let it happen, and I don't have to. I'm also not going to walk up to the criminal and treat the situation as if he is not a potential threat; he's committing a felony, so it's not a great mental leap that he might be armed. Pulling a weapon doesn't mean you have to use it, but I think the circumstances support the action of pulling the weapon. If a DA happens to have a brain fart and decide to press charges (not likely) I would be just fine explaining my actions to a jury. Besides, we're talking about Clarksville here. The DA just let a guy off on agg assault for shooting two people in the head and one person in the chest. I'm pretty sure you can drunk drive a stolen car into a minivan full of kids driven by a pregnant woman, all while clubbing a baby seal with a lit crack pipe in your hand and only get charged with disorderly conduct. That's how we do it in Clarksville. -
Maybe call the police department there. I went a few years ago but left my pistol at home because I was going to be staying on the Naval base... and I was planning on being drunk the whole time. I don't think they should have any laws that restrict carry since the state allows it. Florida is a reciprocity state.

Yeah, it seems like there are little facts here regarding how he was involved directly with Hezbollah. The article states that money was funneled through "Hezbollah" controlled money laundering channels. This suggests multiple cutouts between him and Hezbollah which could mean there is a good chance he didn't know where the money was ultimately ending up. I think there is going to be good reason for suspicion, but I doubt they'll be able to prove anything in regards to intent. They'll just take all the money and liquidate his business. If he's innocent then that's a crappy situation, but hey, be more careful of those you associate with. I don't think he'll see the inside of a Fed prison, but he might be on the next thing smoking to Beirut if he doesn't have his citizenship yet. As far as him being an upstanding citizen, well, I don't know if that really adds weight to his innocence. We grew up watching movies where the bad guys were easily identified because they spoke with Russian accents and looked really mean, but in reality the folks that are involved in big bad guy stuff are good at it because they are good at fitting in and being productive members of society. If the bad guys walked around with silly mustaches and looked like the kind of person that would tie a helpless woman to some railroad tracks then they'd get caught long before they were able to execute a half-billion dollar scheme to fund terrorists.

Soldier Holds Car Burglars at Gunpoint Until Police Arrive
TMF replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
No, but holding them at gun point shouldn't be an issue. I guess they coulda just given him the finger and drove off, but he had already physically yanked one out of the car so he woulda ratted the other two out anyway. I think this is where the great debate starts in regards to when you can pull a weapon. I don't see any issue here. There were three of them and he didn't know how well armed they were. If three guys had stolen stuff from my property my gun is coming out for sure. It's up to them if I use it. -
I would say that there is a good chance that he was an unwitting participant in this thing. They're gonna have to produce tons of evidence to prove that Abdul Khalik had intent. The ways these organizations funnel money is much the same way that our crooked political parties do. Either way, that business is nuked.

Wow this story pisses me off. The way it's written an uneducated reader would assume these people simply purchase the firearms over the internet completely anonymous: From the article: "You don't even really know who you're dealing with over the Internet," Cordle said. "It could be a 13-year-old, for all you know. How are you going to prove it's the same guy who sold it or talked to you about it, without you seeing them?" Complete propoganda. Besides, this "probe" was launched by people who already had their mind made up before they did it with the purpose to create panic and draw attention to something that is already against the law. How scientific is this "probe". They say 63% of sellers were willing to commit a felony by selling to someone who couldn't pass a backround check. That is an impossible number; what qualified as "willing" in the first place? I'm still not seeing the difference between a private seller advertising the sale of his firearm online or putting an ad in the paper. Isn't that what people did before Al Gore invented the internet?

Soldier Holds Car Burglars at Gunpoint Until Police Arrive
TMF replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
He had his wife lock the door behind him when he exited the house to detain the suspects. I'm a firm believer in what's mine is mine. I don't care if it's $5 or $50,000. It's the principle of it. Cowardly people like these punks prey on the hard working and law abiding citizens like vultures. Not everyone has the ability to stand up to these people. Some of us do because we refuse to be victimized or allow others to be victimized in our presence. -

Well good for him. Had he not detained these suspects they would have gotten away long before the police arrived. Criminals enjoy such a permissive environment because of long response times from law enforcement. If more people were willing to stand up for their property and their neighbors' properties then scumbags like these would think twice before trying to steal people's things. -
Right on, well good luck. I hope you snatch it up; it sounds like a good deal. I'm sure you'll like it but if you don't there are probably plenty of people reading this that'll take it off your hands.
