I don't think there is an argument for open carry... it is perfectly legal. It is up to the individual to decide if they want to or not. I would prefer everyone not know that I'm armed, but in a situation where contact is likely I may expose my weapon to deter a situation.

I wouldn't get too wrapped up in unrealistic hypotheticals. First off, someone who is caught in the act of doing something illegal is going to flight/fight/submit. They aren't likely to carry on a conversation with you. I can tell you from personal experience that when you have a weapon pointed at someone they aren't going to be calm/rational or capable of conversation. They are going to fight/flight/submit. If I happen to catch someone stealing from my property the gun is coming out; I don't have time to carry on conversations with a criminal in the acto to determine if they are armed, I'm going to make the assumption they are. It is up to him whether or not my gun starts talking. Now, with the unrealistic hypothetical you pose, he is most likely going to flee. Not just because you are armed, but because he is caught and should assume the police are on their way. If he runs, so be it; ya can't shoot him. If he decides to attack you it is up to you to use your best judgement of what to do next, which at this point if you haven't made the shift in logic to understand your life is in danger then you will right before you die. -
I couldn't justify ever spending the money on that elcan... now if it fell off the back of the truck, well that's a different story. You ever think about putting a DR site on the back of that Elcan? I set mine up like that once but then went back to the CMORE... didn't really need the variable power reticle on that deployment.

Do they shoot standard military silhouettes at that distance for matches or just bulls?

I'm ready to challenge that statement. Please explain to me how making money from playing video games makes him smarter than me?

I had an out of state license the majority of the time I was stationed at Campbell. When I made gun purchases in Clarksville I had to provide my orders and a utility bill (something proving I lived in Tennessee). You shouldn't need the added requirement of providing a utility bill if you purchase in KY, but since your orders bringing you to Campbell are for KY you'll need to prove you live in TN. This is how I understood it. If you have a TN driver's license I guess you don't need any of that.

I support the right for Westboro Baptist Church to protest Soldier funerals, but that doesn't mean I don't hope for the day that someone plows an 18 wheeler into their protest line. Leonard has no Constitutional right to an FFL.

Doing anything on KAF sucks; that is where souls go to get eaten.

Why go up one drill size if the cycling issue is solved by the KX3?

In that event Mayor McCheese should keep his mouth shut, acknowledge that Ron is responsible for the events that transpired and empathize with the true victim of the case. I don't condone killing someone over property, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stand by and be victimized. I will defend my family/property/self, and, if that results in a confrontation where I have to shoot the person, then they deserve it and the family of the CRIMINAL should keep their f'ing mouths shut about it. Kinda like if some idiot decides he's gonna go live with the grizzly bears... he MAY not deserve to be sentenced to death by bear mauling, but if the direct result of his hippie adventure into the wild is that he gets mauled to death and becomes bear poop then he deserved exactly what he got, and shouldn't be treated as an avoidable tradgedy by family members on the part of the bear. The family shouldn't speak ill of the bear or call for the bear's destruction. In fact, the bear should be given a freaking medal. -
I would say his service is suspect because he's a nutjob, but then again John Kerry served and he's a freedom hating elitist. My guess is that due to his mental illness Kwik did not separate from the military in the typical honorable fashion.

I thought the first rule was "If you don't know what you're doing be sure to look cool while you're doing it."

For as much credit as some folks here give our "Big Brother" government, he should already be on their radar... along with the rest of us.....

Well Google is free and easy to use. Hopefully his investigator knows how to use it.

Eh, I've flown firearms at least a dozen times since 9/11. I only had an issue once when they made me open my pelican case at the counter. Other than that it's all been relatively easy. I've never had the big tag saying "gun" on it, just the note inside that said the bag was opened.

He got what he deserved. I have no compassion for him at all. Normally I would at least have compassion for the family of the criminal, but since they're speaking out against the actions of a frail, elderly person who was scared and did not make the choice to be in that situation, the family deserves every bit of pain and suffering they're enduring due to the loss of their loved one. Their mourning should begin and end at the tragic loss of a family member due to that individual's choice to be an idiot. The second they speak out against the innocent involved they can pound sand. I hope only the worst for those people. People who prey on the weak and innocent don't deserve any compassion when their actions result in their own demise. EDIT, quote from one of the articles: The family deserves every bit of suffering coming their way. They should be apologizing for their worm-meat family member, not sticking up for him. They should be liable for the door and the cost of the bullet. -
The criminal involved was sentenced to life in prison for the incident. There will be plenty of time for beatings of a different nature in store for him.

Nope. I've only heard that being a Marine Corps thing. Nearly everyone has a pistol nowadays. For those that don't, they can always get with their chain of command and ask to qualify with an M9 the next time the unit conducts pistol qualifications. I can't see a Plt Sergeant turning down one of his joes if he's doing it for the purpose of getting a HCP.

Wow, bet the neighbors luuuuuuuv that.

Ha, no prob. I've been meaning to zapgrab that chairborne logo; now that's good stuff right there. Giantpogue likey the DFAC, don't he?

Department of the Army A co 1-99 INF, 777 Airborne Division BLDG 1234 Candyland St. Fort Armpit, TN 33333-0000 MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD: 30 February, 2012 SUBJECT: Verification of Pistol Marksmanship Training/Qualification 1. In accordance with semi-annual pistol marksmanship training requirements, PFC Schmedlap Q. Snuffy has completed the following training and has met or exceeded qualification standards. a. Pistol Safety and Maintenance training; 4 hours. Completed 01 February, 2012, BLDG 1212, Fort Armpit, TN. b. Advanced Pistol Marksmanship Training; 4 hours. Completed 02 February, 2012, Range 17A, Fort Armpit, TN. c. M9 Pistol Qualification: Expert; 29/30. Completed 02 February, 2012, Range 17B, Fort Armpit, TN. 2. POC for this memorandum is SSG Giantpogue, 1-99 S-1 NCOIC, at (555) 321-1234. GEORGE S. PATTON CPT, INF COMMANDING I haven't written a memo in years, but something along this lines should do it. I'm sure the memo format is jacked up by current standards, so an officer might make you fix it but the DOS doesn't care if it doesn't meet Army writing guide standards. Type up the memo then give it to the commander to sign. Then make copies and take this with you to the DMV. It wouldn't hurt to attach your qualification sheet and any formal training certificates you've receive in the past 5 years in respect to pistol training. I included all my certificates with my memo and I had no issues; 12 days until my HCP showed up.

Anyone can end up in that situation of no fault of their own according to the commie state laws. If you simply are diverted to NJ or NYC (even if that wasn't on your itinerary) you could find yourself in jail for doing nothing wrong. This isn't a matter of "don't take your guns to a commie state" if you don't have a choice.

I don't have a copy of mine available, but a simple statement on unit letterhead should be sufficient. I would suggest an O-3 or above be on the signature block. It doesn't have to be a uniform statement, as in my memo from the commander wasn't the same as other folks. I just typed up a memo which verified that I had received X hours of pistol training and was qualified with my service pistol, put an O-3 in the signature block and had him sign it. I also included certificates from various military and vendor training facilities to add weight and perhaps speed up the process. I don't know if that mattered or not, but I didn't want to leave anything to question.
