+1 on Rock Island. Very nice 1911 for not too much. EDIT: There's a nice Springfield 1911 package on the trading post for a great price right now. Right around your price range and comes with some extras.

Off-duty deputy pulls gun on pregnant woman and husband at Walmart check-out
TMF replied to a topic in General Chat
Yeah, but we encounter stupid people like this every day without pulling our weapon. -

I get playing devil's advocate here, but I can't think of a good reason to pull a weapon after initiating confrontation short of the other guy producing a weapon or making a threat, can you? -
Media Matters honco doesn't pack heat -- his BODYGUARDS do
TMF replied to QuietDan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I remember a story like this regarding Rosie O'Donnel having her body guard rolled up at a New York airport for possessing a handgun. These people need armed protection.. ya know, because they're the elite. You lowly folks don't need armed protection; who would want to hurt a nobody? -
My Romanian AK functions just as well and shoots just as straight as one that costs 3 times as much, it just don't look as pretty. Nothing against someone that likes nice stuff, but it's not as if the damn thing doesn't work.
-
The Bulgarians are very nice. I bought a Romanian a long time ago for very little money. It's a great rifle but not as pretty as the Bulgarian models. I would recommend the Romanian 5.45 if it weren't for the price increase since the 90s. I only paid 250 for mine back in the day, but for what they are now you might as well get a pretty one for a few bucks more.
-
I love my 5.45. If I had to choose between one or the other I'd go with it. Ballistics are good in regards to wounding effects and it's cheap ammo.

homeowner with warning sign on front door killed
TMF replied to Erik88's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Why not? I thought if someone died as a result of a felony that you're committing you can be charged with 1st degree murder if it can be proven that your actions may have caused the death. For example, a person commits armed robbery of a convenience store and the clerks attempts to flee, slips and falls, cracks his head and dies of injuries. Just an example, but I've seen this in many other states and thought that it was true here. -
I agree, however, when this moron decides to post it for the rest of the world in order to make a point it becomes everyone elses' business. His choice. For him to complain about the negative press regarding this would be like Kim Kardashian complaining that everyone makes fun of her oversized butt. No one would know if they didn't advertise it to everyone that'll watch.

Have you been down to Tennessee Gun Country on 41A? Not quite as big of a selection, but a shorter drive than Greenbrier and I'm sure the can get you what you need.

Punishment should be done out of love, not out of anger. This was clearly anger fueled retribution. It's one thing to take away something, or ground your children or what have you. It's another to publically humiliate your child (someone that should/wants to trust you over all else), especially when that child is a 15 year old girl. As adults maybe we trivialize the social environment of teenagers, but at that age it's everything; especially for the girls. The father has done something that can't be undone. She will probably harbor this against him for the rest of her life in some manner. Is that really worth it? It's the father's fault that she is this way in the first place. He should be angry at himself, not at her.

Anti-gun protest at Starbucks on Valentine's Day

Exclamation points scare me. -
Train wreck. If this is idea of fair parenting then he can look forward to his kids rejecting him when they become adults. There was no love in this. This was simply an adult version of a temper tantrum. He need look no further than himself to answer the question as to why his daughter has come to be such a disrespectful and spoiled kid. Children are a product of their environment, and if this is the environment she grew up in than that explains a lot. Plenty of kids with structure and discipline in their lives grow up to be out of control because their parents didn't include guidance and love into the equation. Those folks grow up to resent their parents. I can't imagine what that feels like, but I work with some fathers whose adult children are that way... there is a common denominator. Too bad it'll be too late in life for him to realize that he ain't gonna get a do-over.

Gunshot Heard Around the Gun Show

As far as this goes. I'm not even going to acknowledged this idiot. Oooohhhhh, burn. -
http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2012/feb/10/jasper-drowning-victim-christopher-heaton-was-cari/ Says in the article that he may have believed his girlfriend's kid(s) were in the vehicle, as there was a car seat strapped in at the time. The girlfried was able to make it to shore with the assistance of others, but perhaps it wasn't communicated in time to this brave man. The current was sweeping the vehicle away as he dove in. Apparently her kids were not with her at the time.

Voter Fraud exists -- and is rampant in New York -- and here??
TMF replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The effectiveness of voter fraud is not the entire point here. Any voter fraud should be taken very seriously and prosecuted to the full extent. I don't care if someone casts one illegitimate ballot; they should be doing hard time for as long as the law allows. Having a cavalier attitude towards voter fraud only invites more and nullifies our entire system of Government. -
http://www.ajc.com/news/suspect-in-attempted-wal-1338449.html Anyone else see this story? The suspect was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in 2007 and released last year. He killed his uncle and dumped the body. DA allowed him to plead down. Now he's out preying on the populace once again. Really hoping for some prison justice here.

During the invasion of Iraq there was an Apache that had to make an emergency landing after a well placed shot from an Enfield .303 fired by a civilian dirt farmer. John Rambo took down a helicopter with a rock. I saw on the movie SWAT a helicopter taken down by a .50. That is the only time I've heard it used in that capacity. Considering the fact that these libtards get their facts from Hollywood movies they should start outlawing large rocks and former Green Berets. It's amazing to me that there are thousands of .50 BMG enthusiasts around the country and not one helicopter has ever been shot down by one. Based on this story I would think that the only use for one would be for anti-aircraft purposes.

Parts compatability Beretta & Taurus
TMF replied to gunrunner32's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Ha, one of "those" guys, huh? Hard to believe there's time for custom builds between stories of drinky girls and TDY rates in the PI. -
Putting my tin-foil hat on now. I can't think of any excuse for any major news outlet to publish such blatant misinformation and outright lies. It's one thing to be biased, but another to completely lie and represent those lies as a fact. I can only believe the reason this is allowed is due to a vast conspiracy because there is no other reasonable explanation.... and I hate conspiracy theories.

Parts compatability Beretta & Taurus
TMF replied to gunrunner32's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Hmm, I can't imagine there is anything different in the locking block design or the barrel itself on the competition barrel that is different from a regular Beretta barrel. It would seem to me that if a Beretta barrel would work in the PT92, the competition barrel (designed for a Beretta) would work just the same. I guess contacting the manufaturer of the competition barrel would be the only way to know for sure. If they say it's a no go then that's your answer. I still can't imagine that it would be an issue if a regular length barrel would work. Why not loan him a spare Beretta barrel so he can make sure that works before buying the 7 inch one? If you don't have one sitting around I have a few, but something tells me you won't have a problem locating one. -
Anti-gun protest at Starbucks on Valentine's Day
TMF replied to LagerHead's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't see it being a big deal either; people OC everyday and I see nothing in the news about it unless it's a "Kwik" event. I guess I just don't think it's a good idea to OC for the purpose of making a statement; for example, having 30 OCing patrons packing into a Starbucks at one time. That's something that draws a lot of attention, and whether we like it or not, it won't be good attention.
