I agree, but we have to recognize that consumers are going to think with their budget first and domestic jobs second, especially in these times. As much as folks want to be activists with their wallet the reality of it is that it is a drop in the bucket. Expecting folks to buy domestic out of principle is something that just isn't going to catch on no matter how much it is spouted. The only way we'll see improvement in domestic industry is to scale back regulations on business, another unrealistic goal. I would say that it is attainable if your average American understood how our economy functioned, but too many people would rather focus on why it isn't fair that rich people have more money than them, so they vote in liberals to "spread the wealth"; the ones that are always preaching about corporate fat cats and big (insert industry here). As long as the media and politicians demonize the very system that makes America strong and innovative, the sheep will keep voting in leaders that want to regulate us out of jobs. To you and I "big coal" = jobs/low energy bill. To the libs and mindless sheep, "big coal" = evil corporation/destroying environment. 'Cause, you know, their iPhones, Prius and electricity at Hot Topic are all powered from unicorns and fairy dust.

I didn't Google it or anything, I just saw the MSRP at the bottom of the page: Even at $400 it is far from worth it. This is one of those things that I'd be like "hey, here's a bunch of parts and crap that I don't use... sure I'll trade for this obnoxious drum so I can show it off at family get togethers." Plus they misused the term "force multiplier" in the advertisement. I expect to see this on a YouTube channel with a couple of half-wits killing soda cans and zombie targets, having no less than 5 major safety violations in the process.

Anyone else got anything back from their Ward Rep on this? Still need to get at least 4 emails out to your respective reps for those who want to have this proposed after the New Year.
-
I'm trying to see the practical application for this passed the "cool factor." First off, if you try to run that amount of ammo through an M4, the way the description reads, as a SAW you're going to have some big problems around the end of the second drum. There is a reason you have to change out barrels every so often on a MG. I don't see LEO or Military guys buying these up for use for a lot of reasons: 1. price; 2. potential mockery; 3. weight; 4. lack of practical application. Any organization that needs some kinda support by fire capability already has something that eats its ammo on a belt. Besides, with an MSRP of $1,000 I could just buy another AR and dual wield them the way they do in the movies. That's about as realistic as this drum is. Gay.

10 years ago it was for me. I used to buy everything online since it seemed all my LGS were waaay overpriced. There weren't many gun stores in the area, so they get to price gouge. This got me in the habit of always buying online and having it shipped. Back then $10 transfers were the norm anyway. Now I can't find transfer fees at a decent price locally. I have to drive nearly an hour to get an FFL that will do it. Some of them locally flat refuse to do transfers from a private seller to private seller. Anymore I don't buy online (out of state) unless it is something specific I'm looking for or the deal is just that good. This forced me back into my LGSs to browse and found that many of the items were priced fairly (except for one local price gouger). My last gun purchase at a LGS was an impulse buy after going in looking for a holster. The deal they had was too good to pass up. Just wish we didn't have such an astronomical sales tax. That's one of the reasons that keeps me coming back to the classifieds here. It seems like (for new purchases) gun stores are being forced to be more competitve because of so many online retailers, which is good for us consumers. While they might not be turning as great a profit on individual purchases, it gets people in the door and increases their sales quantity. For used purchases it still seems as if they are overpriced though. I'm not a gun snob, and I'll gladly purchase a gently used firearm, but not when I can get it 20% cheaper from a local classified.

Interesting indeed. On an unrelated subject, people here own guns? I know I sure don't have any!

+1 I worked at Wally World through high school as a cart pusher. You have a lot of interaction with those door greeters while doing that. I always enjoyed the conversations with the old folks because it always seemed that they had lived pretty interesting lives. Many were vets and I'm always interested in hearing history first hand. One thing most of them had in common was that they were retired and were looking for something to do. Most didn't need the money, they just didn't want to sit around all day waiting for illness or death. One old vet would donate his entire paycheck to a charity. There aren't any employers willing to hire the elderly, so Walmart was the logical choice. As I recall, they would check receipts for two things: date/time and items on the bottom of the cart. Many times people would forget that they had items on the bottom of their cart, and would forget to have the cashier ring it up. When I worked as a cashier there we had small mirrors opposite our registers to see if there was anything on the bottom. At least once a day there would be something a person wouldn't put on the belt and I'd have to remind them. It wasn't as if they were trying to steal, they just forgot. I've done this before as well. So I don't think that Walmart is trying to treat folks like criminals. Checking the timestamp on a receipt is a big deterrent for those that fill up a cart with several hundred dollars in merchandise and just walk out. It's no different than if you pay to get in somewhere that stamps your hand when you leave, they verify your stamp on reentry to make sure you paid. I don't get outraged that they would do that. They have no reason to take my word for it. I'm still surprised to hear about door greeters anyhow. There are 5 Walmarts in my area and none have had door greeters since Walmart did away with them last year. If they got them back I couldn't see me acting anyway but cordial with them.

POLL: How do we get out of this two-party debacle we're in now?
TMF replied to BigK's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
What you don't understand is that having "rich fat cats" is good for our country. It gets reinvested back into our economy in the form of industry and jobs. If we allowed business to operate under less restrictions we would have more domestic jobs opportunities which would translate to consumer spending, thus creating the self propogating capitalist economy. It's when folks like you want to punish people for being successful that we have problems. That's when companies move out of state (Michigan) or out of country (to China). It shouldn't be cheaper to manufacture something in another country, then go through to costs of shipping it here and being further taxed at our ports. Somehow it is cheaper than it would be to produce stuff here. Why is that? That sentence defies all logic, but it's true. When you can figure out the answer to that question then you have figured out what is wrong with liberal encroachment on our job makers (the fat cat corporations). But hey, since we know that the government is sooooo much more successful financially than the private sector (just look at their track record on the deficit) we should expect sunshine and rainbows if we left it all up to them, right? -
Lt. Gov Ramsey calls 2nd amendmant advocates "bullies"

Corrupt politicians? Color me shocked. I still can't understand how so many folks continue to think the person they're voting for is the person they're getting. -
I agree. It isn't the fault of the LEOs on the checkpoint that they are there so I don't see the point of getting snarky until such time as they say something looney like "you have to show me or I will detain you." Of course, I don't know how well I'd keep my composure if I had to stop and show proof of citizenship 3 times on my commute to work. If anything, this video makes clear that you don't have to show your "papers." I think he hit the nail on the head at the beginning of the video where he told the officer he had the right to ask if he's a US citizen. Clearly the officers (or at least the supervisors) knew that he had the right to refuse as he was let go in both cases without detainment or illegal search. Not quite "Nazi" Germany... if it was he would have either been beaten severely or shot for arguing with the law. An LEO can ask me anything he wants whether it be political affiliation, sexual preference, admission of guilt, permission to search or whether or not I'm a "boob" or a "leg" man. I don't have to answer any of that, but I can if I want to. On another note, I don't believe that looking latino or having an accent is reasonable suspicion for a stop. As much as I believe we should have better immigration policies (or at least illegal immigration policies), that doesn't mean that a US citizen should be subject to stop/search/proof of citizenship/residency because of their skin color or accent.

Go to www.whocallsme.com and usually those numbers that call are listed by users with descriptions of what the company is peddling. Occasionally there will be an outright scam. I like to answer these calls and just act like a lunatic. It keeps them from calling back.

They don't have door greeters anymore. I haven't seen them do this in at least a year.
-
I just don't see that happening... mostly because it hasn't ever happened. Secondly, unless there is an officer on scene you won't be charged. Thirdly, if an officer was on scene it will probably go like this: Officer: "Did you not see the sign when you came in here carrying?" You: "No officer, it was out of the way and not clearly posted. Had I seen it I would have turned around and taken my business somewhere else." Officer: "Okay, well you can't carry in here so you need to stow it out in your car or leave." You: "Yes Sir, have a nice day." Officer: "You too; nice pistol by the way. I've been looking to pick one up like that." You: "Well check out TGO. I saw one for sale there the other day for a good price." Officer: "Will do." I don't even bother looking that hard when going into these businesses that have no less than 30 signs and announcements posted on their entry doors. Next time you go to a gas station just count how many signs they have on the doors as you enter. Should you really be expected to read and understand the equivalent of 20 pages of text when entering a business? If it isn't immediately noticable I ain't gonna notice it. When one of you can cite a case of a HCP holder getting busted for carrying past a sign that isn't clearly posted then maybe I'll look a little harder. Otherwise, I see it as a non-issue.

I'd save the ammo for squirrels and bunnies. An 8 ft by 6 ft trench surrounding the home would do the trick. Once there are a few hundred of them start launching balloons filled with fuel/gel mix into the trench in crowded spots. Add flame. Problem solved.

I ended up dumping Charter over this. Poor customer service. When I fired them I explained that even if my new service costs twice as much as Charter I'd still leave. Had similar billing issues I needed comp'd. It took nearly a half hour of being passed around between Canada and India to make this happen. When I realized that the amount I was comp'd was not worth a half hour of being on hold or translating into Hindi, thus raising my blood pressure to unsafe levels, I didn't even bother to call the next time I had billing issues. I just called another company, had them set everything up and then call Charter. They seemed confused that I would be so upset about MY money that I earned belongs to me, and that stealing from me and requiring that I navigate a cumbersome system to get it back is enough to fire a company I'd been with for 7 years. When did businesses decide that their customers are just a given? It's like trying to deal with government employees.

POLL: How do we get out of this two-party debacle we're in now?
TMF replied to BigK's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
As much as I would welcome the demise of both big parties, I understand that this is something that just won't ever happen. This has nothing to do with the parties; it has everything to do with my fellow Americans. I realize that not enough Americans will ever vote for their convictions but they will vote for whomever is most likely to win that supports the majority of their ideals. I tend to always vote Republican because my priorities start with fiscal conservatism and there will never be a Dem candidate that will want smaller government. I would absolutely love to vote my concious in the primary, but I know that most Americans won't. Conservatives are most likely to vote on beliefs which is why the Dems will always sweep an election with a third party candidate. Not to say that Dems aren't capable of standing by their beliefs, but they're much better at closing ranks than the Republicans. Since the average voter makes their decision on either media coverage, commercials or "that's how daddy voted" I don't see any hope of ousting our two party system. The only possible way to reign them in is to send a clear message to Washington that they're going to be fired if they don't work together to pick this country up out of the gutter. I think this is a very possible goal to achieve. A very small percentage of voters can sway an election one way or the other. If only 10 percent of voters agreed to vote out every incumbent on the ballot it could change the race by a margin of up to 20 percent. In a two party race 20 percent will decide who goes to Washington and who doesn't, since we know everyone else will vote party lines. Of course, that would presuppose that all those votes would be coming away from one side or the other, but even a 5 percent defection from one party could be a nail in the coffin, and could you imagine in a 50/50 split presidential election with a sitting Republican if 10 percent defected and voted Democrat making it a 60/40 landslide? What clearer message could be sent to the Republican party to get their sh!t together and stop with the career politicians and pandering? I dunno, this model I consider the "knock some sense into them" model. Perhaps it would be messy at first, but it would remind the two parties that we are still in control. Many folks would consider this to be "too messy" as voting in Dems would compromise so many conservative gains but these are the same folks suggesting some kind of armed revolt. Well, which do you think would be more messy? At least if the two parties had to deal with 8 years of 100% non-negotiable turnover they'd get the picture. At that point they'd have to realize that it doesn't matter what party you belong to or what commercials you put on the TV.... you're getting fired at the end of your term. It'd be a lot easier to clean up that mess than one that would involve revolt or a coup which would be 10 times more corruptable in the unlikely event they were successful. Use any modern day revolution or coup as a model and see how well things went when they were successful at attaining their goals. The most successful ones involved a tyrannical dictator taking charge in the end. -

4473 Has Changed, Hispanic/Latino No Longer a Race
TMF replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I guess asking "are you a Mexeecan or a Mexeecan't?" would get the libs fired up. Seriously though, I still don't understand why there is anything involving race or ethnicity on these forms. If it doesn't have anything to do with transferring the firearm it shouldn't be on there. I don't believe these questions involving race have anything to do with identifying the individual later on, especially since your SSN is on there. -
I miss my M1A. It was the last rifle I sold and have regretted it ever since. It ate everything I fed it; I can't say that the cheap milsurp stuff performed well out to distance 'cause I didn't try, but it still went bang and hit stuff out to 100m. You should be able to find a quality AR-10 variant for around the same price, if not cheaper, as an M1A. I can promise you if you get an M1A you will not be disappointed, but then again if you pick up a DPMS in .308 from wally world you probably won't regret that either.

Father punches man trying to meet his 12 yr old daughter

Unfortunately this is how our youth today socializes. As much as I would like to shield my kids from the world, I can't expect that it will keep them safe from harm, and distancing them from the media that all of their friends use to communicate may cause more problems than it solves. We're raising them to be adults, not children. The best we can do as parents is raise our kids to recognize certain dangers like this and trust us enough to let us know. At any rate, his daughter should not have been corresponding with this man and should have come to her father right away. Not sure if that's what happened or not, but certainly it's what she should have been raised to do. Hopefully I'm raising my daughter to be smart. If anything, she won't want Daddy to go to jail for the rest of his life because she didn't heed his advice. Good for the father for punching the guy out, but it would have been best (albeit, not as satisfying) to get the police involved first. At least then they could have set up a sting and had enough to put him in jail. -
Have you ever seen the UN send "enforcers" anywhere? The US is the UN in terms of any teeth. Without us the UN is about as valid as my own international government that I created and preside over. My latest decree is to have Sweden send all their bikini models to my doorstep for quality control inspection. If they do not comply I will do what the UN does when someone doesn't comply which is write a letter to their government demanding something that I know has no hope of being honored. Obama could wake up tomorrow and just start aimlessly launching ICBMs and the UN would do nothing.
