Shooting at Denver theater during new Batman movie.
TMF replied to K191145's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I don't think it would have mattered. People like this are cowards. Proof of that being he went into a theater full of folks he knew to be unarmed and randomly shot people. He knew that he was safe the whole time. If a person so much as pointed a gun in his direction he would have fled or surrendered. People like this are just the lowest form of coward that exist. The fact that he surrendered to police shows it. He probably had grand ideas in his head of going out in a blaze of glory, but chickened out when he heard the sirens. People like this want to be in charge of their own deaths... they are too scared to let someone else kill them. Look at most of the other mass shootings where the shooter kills himself. It's all about cowardly control. I really, really hope that bad things happen to him. Unfortunately, at this point he's getting what he wants. All the media attention.. people all wanting to know who he is. He will spend his life sentence in prison in a bubble of protection from general population, 'cause you know he wouldn't last with the real toughies. Does Colorado still put people to death or are they completely overrun with granola eaters? -
You know, the investigators tried to press charges looong before Al and Jesse got involved. Apparently there was something then. The only thing separating this from wild speculation about corruption is that first DA. What if he would have charged him in the first place at the advice of the investigators? Would people be screaming foul then?

And somehow Zimmerman couldn't?

I've flown with it once without issue. It's actually a hardcase that uses a zipper to open/close. I'll be flying with that one again in a couple of months. Now that you mention it I'll probably take the other one as a back up in case they have an issue. It doesn't seem an less secure though than a plastic box that I can cut open w/ my Gerber.

We're on a Monty Python kick today, ain't we? ...waiting patiently for demands of a shrubbery.

UN Inspectors Attacked With Explosives (Idlib,Syria) Raw Footage
TMF replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
There has been a mass exodus of Syrians into Lebanon in the past 48 hours. Also, Assad's Nat'l Security Advisor died yesterday of wounds in Wednesday's blast that also killed their Secretary of Defense. Even though this has been going on for a while, I figured at some point the rebels would tire or suffer enough defeats (like in the beginning) that this would just wither away. Amazingly this has not only been ramped up, the rebels seem to be getting a lot of ideological support from the populous. This is largely without any kind of social media or access to what the rest of the world is putting on the news. I don't think this will go away. The rebels will either topple Assad or Assad will have to make some big changes and step down, then retire elsewhere. -

I think what he was saying was that anyone can get a higher rate of fire on semi; just highlighting the ignorance of the talking heads. I just watched a news report of talking heads where an "expert" said that AR15s were banned under the Brady Bill, and that this couldn't have happened it the legislation hadn't expired. Funny, I have a "Brady Bill" AR and an AK that were both purchased in the 90s with the bill in effect. It takes mags just fine, just doesn't look as mean. Once again, total ignorance. -

I use one now that has a zipper opening which locks in the middle so that you don't have that problem. Before I used to fly with my Kimber factory case, and had the same problem you mentioned above in regard to being able to pry on one side.

To the left this isn't a tragedy; it's an opportunity. Absolutely disgusting. -
Yeah, it's just a theory. The article didn't say the amount of drugs recovered. From the media accounts he had marijuana. Not normally associated with violent behavior, but who knows what some people will do when they feel cornered. I think that is going to be a factor in the investigation of the shooting. Some would argue that it shouldn't, since having drugs doesn't give police the right to just shoot you or enter your apartment. However, we don't know that the deceased didn't react with deadly intent towards the officers because he was afraid of being arrested. It's a murky situation. The fact that there is doubt that the police announced themselves is really an "x" factor here as well. It could be argued that the deceased didn't know.. maybe he thought he was being robbed. I don't think we'll ever know since he's dead and the officers aren't going to readily admit to wrongdoing.

I see that Bloomberg isn't wasting any time on this one. He is the Mayor of a city that has nothing to do with where this took place. I think the Mayor of Aurora should tell him to mind his own effing business and worry about his own deteriorating sh*thole. -
My take away (granted I'm no Angela Lansbury) was that since he was clearly out of breath while on the phone with the operator while trying to stay in visual contact with Martin tells me that he was chasing unless he is just so fat and out of shape that he gets out of breath from just walking normally.

No, the point I was making, for the sake of the scenario, was to assume she was being murdered. It wasn't a question of "would you do it if.." it was "would you do it".

If Jack Bauer was in a room with Hitler, Osama bin Laden and Nina Meyers and he only had two rounds of ammo, he'd shoot Nina Meyers twice. Oh wait... wrong one! Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until they give him the information he wants. But seriously, this movie is gonna be awesome. No way I'll be able to get my wife to sit down through another one though... not without having to sit through a Nicolas Sparks movie.

Sure, I don't doubt there is. Like I said, I'm no legal eagle. However, I figure that any judge would throw out a case if there isn't even evidence to support the charge. Can prosecutors just level charges on folks at random? I guess so. I guess a DA could just charge you with 1st degree murder on some random crime you have no connection to. However, when it goes before a judge the DA is gonna need more than "I just really, really think he did it." But maybe you're right. Maybe the judge is allowing this to happen due to political pressure. That wouldn't be right. But we still have a jury that would ALL have to agree that Zimmerman committed a crime. I would venture to say that at least 50% of Seminole County residents (if not more) are tired of the media, Jesse and the NBPP making a spectacle out of their community and leveling accusations at Floridians in general. For every juror that some of you think has been misled by the media to believe Zimmerman is guilty, there is probably another that is beyond pissed that the media has raked him and the community across the coals. Hell, there was outrage from the community when the Police Chief tried to resign! He will get a fair trial. If he is found guilty it is because he is guilty.

I did not know this. That makes me feel a lot better and I won't be using TSA locks anymore.
-
Hmm, well putting it in my luggage is free. Can't beat that.
-
And some people want him to be innocent because the media rakes him over the coals. I don't think that is a good reason either. I also don't think we have all the evidence. A charge of 2nd degree murder tells me there is something we don't know since there hasn't been anything released that it is 2nd degree and not manslaughter. I'm no legal eagle, but I would think the charge would be thrown out without some kind of evidence to back it up.

Well that's life sometimes. No one can control the future or predict it, so it is not a deciding factor when making a decision based in morality for me. Perhaps I just haven't had enough bad experiences from intervening into situations. I've never had to pull my gun out in the states before, but I have become involved. In fact, the times I became involved I wasn't even armed. I think the fact that we carry is kinda inconsequential here. Whether or not I'm armed would not stop me from intervening in someone's brutal assault or murder, nor would the legal ramifications be going through my mind at the moment. The question, as I understood it from the OP was one of morals: would you or wouldn't you? Some believe that it compromises their morals to put themselves and family in financial danger, as could potentially happen. That is a valid concern. Me, I feel I've risked it all for a lot less before, and in one case for two people I should have been compelled to let die. The same morality that causes me to do the right thing for my family is the same that causes me to do the right things for others. Whatever is most immediately in need will get my attention.
-
Isn't there a requirement amongst the carriers to have these overnighted though? I thought that was policy and that made it pricey.
-
Hmm, yeah another good point. I make an effort to fly without connections if I can, even if I'm not carrying. Almost everytime I've been in the north east it has been my final destination anyhow, so the gun stayed at home.

I don't think we'll get involved. Europeans can have this one. We aren't even flying drones to monitor for the UN. The Russians just don't want to lose their base on the Med. They could care less about what's going on there other than their concern over being evicted if the opposition wins. But hey, Greece is bankrupt. They could always buy real estate there pretty cheap. I think this is gonna go on for a while. A shame really when you consider that if it wasn't for this we'd be getting at least a few years of peace and quiet in that area.
