  1. You can't go wrong either way. I haven't handled the AC but have heard good things. I'd go with that just in case you want to start carrying later. I have a buddy who has an R1 that I've shot a couple of times. They're nice. Can't go wrong there if you want a relatively inexpensive full size of good quality.
  2. I've always had Dewalt tools and would never describe them as cheap. I still haven't figured out how to keep batteries from going bad; I think this is a common problem with all brands. I'm always sure to charge them after every use and will switch batteries before all the juice is gone. I am now down to one dewalt battery. We started using the Lithium Ion batteries where I work about a year ago. Haven't had any of those go bad yet. I'd like to go that route but they're so damn expensive. I figured I'd pick up a dewalt battery grinder with a Li-ion as a part of the pack to offset the cost, but haven't seen any sold like that.
  3. We're talking about a three year old here. I'm all about gun safety education to kids. When my kids are old enough to understand that Barney isn't real they'll be getting taught about firearms. However, the only way to guarantee that a kid won't improperly handle a firearm is to restrict access. No matter how well you teach a kid not to do something they are still impulsive. I wouldn't bet my kids' life on how well they listen to me. The child in this case will likely be permanently disfigured as the tiny bones in his foot won't grow properly with sections missing. I'm sure the parents are saying stuff like "he knew better than to touch daddy's gun." Obviously he didn't.
  4. I can't keep my three year old from throwing objects in the toilet but I should trust him alone with a loaded gun?
  5. There most certainly is a gang problem. It just isn't a problem yet because they keep it to themselves. There isn't much random violence associated with it towards folks that don't share the lifestyle, but make no mistake, it's there. Start paying attention to the shootings that take place in Clarksville; where, when and who. These aren't just random hotheads slinging lead; there is a reason the denominators are common in every circumstance. The problem is going to come when they begin expanding beyond their borders.
  6. Ha, I know. I actually read this snippit in the Chronicle a while before Dave posted it and was thinking the same thing.
  7. Yeah man, give it a shot. With the back half of it on the receiver it shouldn't mess it up even at 100m. I could see it screwing up your zero if there were some force applied to the handguards (such as gripping it, or the handguards getting knocked around) but even then it might only be a few MOA off. At 100m with an unmagnified red dot that is nothing. I've never used a red dot for anything past 100m... that's what I use my irons for.
  8. That was my witty way to acknowledge the media spin being placed on the story that has outraged many folks here.
  9. Well, for me anyway, prejudice has never been a matter of race. I use the term "prejudice" in only it's most pure form to illustrate my ability to read situations based on laws of probability. It makes me wrong sometimes, but not usually. The story of the drive by above is a familiar one with familiar characters. Kinda like the stories when someone has their kid get shot by a gun that was laying around. I'm guessing there is a history of cheap beer and Jerry Springerisms going on in that household.
  10. Yes, it could absolutely have an effect on the accuracy, especially being on drop-in handguards that don't appear to have a "lock down" feature such as the KA handguards. However, what are you planning on using it for? It's just a red dot, so unless it's anything past 25-50m I don't think it'll matter unless you need it to be dead on. If it was an optic with magnification for longer range I would tell you to move it back, but you should be fine if you're not shooting at stuff that far away.. it won't affect it enough to matter, especially with the rear locked into the receiver. EDIT: Is that a .22 upper by the way? I was just looking at the bolt and figured it was. If so then it really, really doesn't matter. Keep your optic where it's at and shoot away... it's a .22 after all.
  11. The post I had been referring to before by another member claimed that witnesses saw Martin ambush Zimmerman. I know that isn't true. But to be honest, I haven't been paying attention to what's been going on with the witnesses and the flip flopping of stories. I figure it'll come out in court if it's truthyish. Neither prosecutors or the defense will put up witnesses that are untrustworthy, less they be ripped apart on the stand and do more harm than good.
  12. I know that I'm showing my prejudice here, but I've learned how to interpret these stories in the Leaf Chronicle: 19 yr old + drive by shooting + Chevy Impala + no witnesses/suspects + Summit Heights territory= Drug/Gang shooting.
  13. There have been a few of these lately. There was one last week in Clarksville where a couple of bubbas were screwing around with a handgun and one of them died in the process.
  14. I don't know about you, but when the apocolypse happens in December I'll finally be able to carry my lever action just like that.... already got the rifle scabard and everything. Gonna be just like Kevin Costner I am.

    Netflix

I love Netflix. Been using them for several years now. When they changed their rates for streaming we just stuck w/ Bluray. The only time we used the streaming feature was when we were on vacation and wanted to see a romance movie or something. It feels good to get something you're looking forward to in the mail. For the price it is a great deal; plus I'm just glad that they put an end to Blockbuster's reign over the movie rental industry.
  16. From what I understand he was wearing body armor, not a vest. Based on the fact he had a groin protector and a neck protector (both made out of kevlar) I'm guessing he had military style body armor which is gonna have the soft armor along with the ballistic plates which don't go below 3A. That stuff is rated to stop 7.62 x 51 ball. Nowadays all the rage is those level 4 standalone plates that don't even need to be used in conjuction with soft armor, but are. There is a good video online of a medic taking a 7.62 x 54R in the plate which caused him to fall over, to which he immediately got up, scanned and got behind cover. This happened back in '04 before all the nice armor started coming out, so he just had the old style IBA with SAPI plates. The shot was taken from no further than 150m away, so I'm thinking that a 7.62 x 54R has a lot of energy behind it at that distance. Perhaps there are pistol calibers that could replicate that sort of energy at 7-10m distances, but I'm not a ballistics guru and woudln't know how to calculate that. I do know that the standard carry calibers (9mm, .40, .45) won't come anywhere close and certainly won't have any penetration. I'm sure, though, if I had to empty a mag rapidly in the direction of someone wearing full kit, one of those rounds is going to hit something that makes him consider his mortality.
  17. I've never been shot, but the folks I know that were hit in their ballistic plates with AK rounds were fine. One guy claimed he didn't even know he had been hit. Soft armor though, that's gonna hurt. Getting hit in that fancy kevlar helmet is gonna put him down. I'm fairly confident though, any rounds coming in his direction, no matter what they hit, are going to make him piss himself and likely give up or try to escape. That is the difference between someone fighting for their life and someone just trying to experience the thrill of killing defenseless people.
  18. Ha, well I certainly don't have anything against someone being prepared. I carry a .45 even though I would be fine carrying something smaller. Nobody knows the future and no one can control it. I was merely commenting on the psychology of criminals and those that commit acts like this. Trust me, they are cowards. I do know this though, you ain't gonna find a carry pistol that eats anything that penetrates ballistic plates.
  19. I don't think it would have mattered what caliber gun you had, the ammo or the fact that he was kitted up. I would bet any amount of money that the criminal would have broken contact and fled. Someone bent on murdering helpless people is not the type of person that has the balls to go toe to toe with someone capable of defending themselves.
  20. As long as they're killing each other, I am not moved. Live by the sword and all. It's when innocents get killed that bug me. Everytime I see a picture of someone shot in gang violence and the picture they use of the "victim" is a mugshot I can't bring myself to care.
  21. Wow, I remember reading in Army times the percentage of Servicemembers that supported Bush over Kerry was 85% in favor of Bush.
  22. Could we please have these people put into context "violence". As far as I can tell all this "violence" is due to occupation and lifestyle. I you're a gangster you are more likely to be a "victim" of violence. Is that really a problem? Couldn't we classify this differently? Linking this to guns is, once again, silly. Vermont is on there as being one of the safest States in the country, but they don't even require a permit to carry a firearm. Obviously guns are not the common denominator.
  23. Yes, I'm aware there are witnesses that have changed their statement, however, there were no witnesses who saw how it started.
  24. Knocking on someone's door, no matter time of day, is not a crime. Pointing your gun at them is.
  25. Nope. Not true.
