It would make for an interesting situational comedy to say the least.... maybe ABC will pick it up and stop putting cookie cutter crap on the air. I can see it now, Biden hiding Romney's magic underwear... Romney replacing Biden's dimentia medication with estrogen pills. I like where this could potentially go.

Executive order, Internet Off Switch!!
TMF replied to partypilot1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Well let's just hope that he keeps that up for a few more months. It seems to be working in our favor. -
I saw a poll today with Romney ahead of Obama by 5% with 4% undecided and 3% "other". That's gotta be a good sign considering the smear campaign has been in Romney's direction for the most part.

Officers charged with "Official Oppression" in bicyclist case
TMF replied to a topic in General Chat
The article said that the charge of oppression must come from a grand jury. I assume that was part of the hold up in addition to that would be the time it took for the charges against the citizen to clear. -
Judge allows paralyzed dad to sue Glock
TMF replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
At least the kid didn't shoot himself. Hard to believe that a cop that allows his 3 year old access to his DEPARTMENT ISSUED firearm resulting in incident would still be a police officer... but then again, California. Hopefully I'll get to see that utopia destroy itself in my lifetime and take Hollywood with it. -
I hear ya. I try so hard to open myself up to liberal ideals so I'm not just closed off to the way they think, but when applying logic most issues they support they don't make sense. On occasion they get something right, but even when they do the argument from their side is rife with name calling and dismissive attitude towards the opposition (gay issues is a perfect example). I wish, just once, I could have an intelligence debate with a die hard liberal where my logic isn't countered with emotion, but with better logic. I would abandon any of my beliefs or opinions in a heartbeat if there was superior logic to oppose those beliefs.

http://news.yahoo.com/children-break-gun-safes-paper-clips-straws-experts-033453222--finance.html Granted, it was the "safe" breaking expert that taught his son how to do it, but as easy at it sounds on these particular models I would think it pretty easy for kids 8 and older to YouTube it and figure it out. I wish the had a by-name list of all the brands they are referring to 'cause this sounds like it might actually be a serious issue and not just the lib media creating another anti-gun issue.

I dunno, I was in this situation before only the reverse. Didn't hurt my feelings one bit, 'cause if I still wanted her I wouldn't have sent her a$$ packing. And yes, it ruined our friendship for the same reasons why I traded her in for a better model... she was crazier than a sh#thouse rat and didn't want him around me since I was a "bad influence" on their relationship. It ended in divorce, go figure. I wouldn't do it in front of the sales clerk. I'd approach the man when he left and either work something out or agree to meet later. Like another poster said, I don't carry around hundreds of dollars anyway, so it would be unlikely for an actual deal to go down in the parking lot. But if a gun shop turns him down it's free game. I'm not going to pass up on something I want because someone feels they have "dibs" on something they already turned down. It would be poor etiquette to enter into a bidding war with the gun store, but once the seller decides he ain't selling it to the shop, game on. If it would make you feel better one could even let the clerk know that you intend to make the guy an offer, if there is time to do so before the guy leaves.

AURORA THEATER SHOOTING: ARMED RESPONSE ANALYSIS
TMF replied to Daniel's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I play the averages but still recognize that anything is possible. 99.99% of the time a criminal just wants to do their thing and get away. There are an abundance of videos of victims taking the fight to he attackers and the attackers always flee. The N. Hollywood shootout was a fluke. I'm not basing action on that, I'm gonna go with the averages a d that says that criminals are cowards. This guy is no different or special. -
Here we go: High Cap Mag Ban attached to Cybersecurity bill
TMF replied to MattCary's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I just want to go back to a simpler time when drunk drivers and texters were the only ones killing mass amounts of Americans everyday. People seemed to accept that way better. -
Oops, and here I thought I learned something new.

AURORA THEATER SHOOTING: ARMED RESPONSE ANALYSIS
TMF replied to Daniel's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I wouldn't sweat someone wearing armor. People don't like gettin shot at no matter how much protection they have. I'm confident that anyone who is intent on shooting folks ain't gonna react well to getting shot back at. Criminals are cowards, and when they draw a pistol it ain't because they're fighting for their lives, but if I draw mine it's because I am. Different mindset; they will break contact at the first sign of trouble. -
AURORA THEATER SHOOTING: ARMED RESPONSE ANALYSIS
TMF replied to Daniel's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You are a proper gentleman, Sir. I think it's great to look at this and sorta aar it, but I'm still of the mindset that there wasn't much could be done other than seek cover or try to get away. I consider myself to be a good shooter and less fearful of a d-bag with a gun than most, but in this situation, had I been sitting in the lower rows, surrounded in a packed theater with no escape or cover.... I dunno, I imagine I woulda been shot before I realized what was going on. When you figure out how many people were in the theater in that first section he shot up versus the number of people shot, odds aren't that good. It's just a really crap situation and I really feel for those folks. It makes me hate this shooter even more to know how confident he musta been that no one would have time to respond even if they were armed. BTW, if it was body armor a 10mm ain't doing jack to it. Unless your 10mm has more impressive ballistics than a 7.62 x 51 ball round he ain't gonna fall down or even get major bruising.... Not if you hit him in the plates. -
Good find. This was posted here the other day. I thought about reposting it here but was worried about sensory overloading ya. Keep in mind those are approximate values so you might find them higher or lower in price at your gun store.

Mississippi boy caught on daycare surveillance video beating toddlers

Haha, don't worry man, I got what you were trying to say the first time. Parents=problem -
Well, you requested the verbage indicated in the law. I went one further and even offered the AG opinion which appears to be contrary to yours. Not that I don't support your right to decide what goes on in your business, but for the point of clarification that you asked for I figured I'd deliver. Since you post similar verbage to include it being a crime to carry past your sign it meets the criteria set forth in the law and is in line with the AG's opinion, but your assessment a few posts up where you state that "just about anything you put on the sign is legal in my opinion" would be incorrect according to the law and the opinion of the AG. To answer the question that was posed before, no. A flying fork is not a "legal" posting. Apparently the manager didn't care so long as he had a HCP. Sounds like a good interaction IMO. I'm not condoning everyone to just blow off the wishes of a property owner, I'm just making the facts clear. The fact is that nothing legally is gonna happen to you if you don't see a sign. The only way someone is going to get charged under this law is if they're breaking another law, such as trespassing, at the time they are breaking this one.

Aurora Shooter and Mental Health Issues
TMF replied to midtennchip's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ha, yeah I find that to be kinda ironic considering the circumstances here and the backlash towards the gun industry. I agree that his fellow students and professors might not have picked up on his mental issues. Even if they did I'm not sure how it would change the outcome here. Sometimes people just go crazy and there's nothing you can do about it. I've come across many a mental case in my day and can only think of two that caused me to interject and take action, and that was only because I was in the military at the time and the mental cases had plenty of access to arms and ammo. When I worked in other jobs I don't think I would have cared to involve myself in a person's personal/mental issues. I'm sure I've come across them, just can't think of any right now. Mainly because it's not my business, and also because I don't know how my involvement would "improve" anything or even what my goal of involving myself would be. From the perspective of fellow students and professors I can understand an unwillingness to do anything about a character that acts a little "off". Add to that your observation that being "off" is not an uncommon trait amongst those attracted to such a profession. Context, I believe, is what motivates people to become involved or at least draw attention to a situation. In this case you had the owner of a gun range that Holmes applied to become a member of being immediately suspicious of his behavior just based on the Holmes' voicemail causing him to alert his staff. Not a big deal to call someone back and get a creepy voicemail, but in the context of joining a gun range it may set off some alarm bells. Another example would be that sorry POS traitor from Ft. Campbell that planned on setting off bombs targeted at Soldiers in the Ft. Hood area. I'm sure this guy acted like a fruitcake everywhere he went, but acting like a fruitcake in a gun shop while trying to purchase large amounts of smokeless powder is what got him rolled up after the store owner called the cops. It's all about context. I see fruitcakes all the time. There is a guy that walks down Riverside Drive here everyday in camo pants, no shirt and yells at himself as he walks down the road. That doesn't stand out as something which would make me alert the authorities. Now, if he was doing the same thing and carrying a Draco with the tip painted orange.... well, you know how that goes. -
I wouldn't go so far as to say that it "forces" an opinion on another, as technically any contract company that is conducting work on behalf of the government is working for the government. If a company doesn't want to adhere to those policies they don't have to use the government as a customer. The government is the customer in this equation and has the right to seek services elsewhere if they don't like the service provider. Kinda like if you don't like Chick-Fil-A's stance on gay marriage you don't have to eat there. However, a government saying that a business can't operate because of the CEO's opinions on gay marriage and religion is forcing his opinion on others because the customer is the free market, not the Mayor. Now, if the Mayor said "I don't want a Chick-Fil-A stand operating in the city employee food court because of their stance on gay marriage that would be different. It would be ethical and legal, yet not exactly fair. But life isn't fair. Yes, but local, state and fed governments can require contracted companies to have stricter anti-discrimination policies.

Aurora Shooter and Mental Health Issues
TMF replied to midtennchip's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not to sharpshoot ya there Lester, but they actually did, multiple times. It was political correctness that overrode any action. Yes, political correctness is actually killing people. -
Since it's been posted on TGO a few hundred times we can post it again. Dave, here is the AG opinion on it: So according to the law and the AG this wouldn't be considered a posting that carried the weight of the law. Unbeknownst to me, the AG's opinion on the matter is that an international circle slash can't be used in lieu of TCA language or similar. It doesn't mean that a person couldn't be charged if an officer happened to be there and was ignorant of the law, but the law is very clear and no one is going to be convicted under this law unless they are purposefully breaking it or trespassing. Since it hasn't happened in the entire State of Tennessee yet with it's 300,000 HCP holders I don't think it is going to happen. People carry past signs everyday. Based on the words of the law and the AG opinion I would say that unless the sign says that it is a crime to carry past it there would be no hope of charges sticking to any HCP holder. That is the reality of it. References: http://www.tn.gov/at...007/op/op43.pdf http://www.lexisnexi...ttopics/tncode/

Be sure to price everything out and don't get talked into anything. Pick out at least half a dozen 1911s in the 1000-1500 price range and then go home and get online to check reviews and price. Stop here and ask what some guys think about the various models available as I'm sure there are gonna be folks who own each one that you look at. If you have some time between now and his birthday you also could consider the idea of having your gun shop order one if there is one in particular that you would like but he doesn't have in stock.
-
For $1500 your options should be wide open. And yes, the .380 is too small for him. With that budget I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the concept of one brand (Kimber). There are some very nice 1911s you can get at that price that are perhaps nicer than Kimbers at the same price point. I love my Kimber, don't get me wrong. I carry it every day. If I had $1500 to spend though, I would be considering all options. There have been some good ones thrown out there so far, but like all things it invites a lot of opinions and we all got 'em. We should have a 1911 SME on this board for stuff like this. Have you been window shopping at your local gun shop yet?

Mississippi boy caught on daycare surveillance video beating toddlers

I don't think this child is a stranger to physical punishment. In fact, I think that's the problem here. This kid doesn't need a spanking, he needs discipline and a role model. I'm assuming he has neither. I can't expect a kid at the age of 9, that has most likely been raised no better than one raises livestock, to behave properly. One day he will be an adult and will just be doing this kind of stuff on a larger, more dangerous scale. Of course at somepoint one assumes responsibility for their own actions, but right now I blame the child's parents (or lack thereof). The person/people that would be getting slapped here would be the ones running this daycare. At no time should a baby (that is what an 11 month old is) be left unsupervised with older children. Not just because one my be abusive, but because kids simply don't understand how fragile babies are. Hopefully there was no permanent damage suffered by the victims here, but I can see where it easily could have happened. I'm glad to see that one of the daycare workers has been fired and charged with a crime, but I don't know if I could contain my rage if that was my baby being left to be tortured by a future sociopath. Adults should know better; especially adults responsible for child care.
