I would say no. A Mosin is cheap to get and so is the ammo. The only other thing I would suggest would be an SKS. It costs about twice as much but the ammo is cheap in bulk and I find it more fun to shoot that my Mosin. I'm assuming that you can still pick up an SKS for around $200, although I haven't priced them in a long time. I have one and don't intend to get another.

I have a very open mind on the subject. I'm not ready to commit to the belief that we're the cause until there is research done by folks that don't have an agenda. There is such a history of debunked studies and agenda-driven "facts" that it is too convoluted for me to have an opinion on the subject. If it is true, than the eco-terrorist hippies are to blame for derailing the legitimacy of the studies.

We are such a litigious society, also facepalm worthy article/snippet.

Because this is common behavior of a dependappotamus when foraging for financial support outside her natural habitat of the welfare office. -
I'm pretty much in the same boat on a-hole neighbors. I'd love to go a few rounds with mine but have been denied my requests for a fair and gentlemanly fist fight. Even if I got my butt kicked I'd feel better about landing some good licks, but I probably wouldn't lose, which is why my offer was denied.

Honestly, I would hang on to it. There is no shortage of companies that are producing ARs. If money is the issue, go and just buy a stripped AR lower. At least you can piece it together as you get cash, and if you get one now you don't have to worry about a BS ban coming out in a few years that would prevent you from making it "scary" looking. I plan on buying a couple of AR lowers myself for just that purpose. I know there are a few builds I would like to do, but will have to piece them together over a year or two to keep it off the wife's radar. I would gladly dump one of my ARs for an M1 if I wasn't emotionally attached to my rifles. I actually planned on doing that with an extra one I built, but ended up giving it away as a gift. If it were me, I would hang on to it. I can promise you that you will regret it if you dump it for an AR.

I have no brand loyalty either. I'm a consumer and will use my dollar where I think it will be best spent. With that said, I would rather buy a product that is affordable that the manufacturer will actually stand by. That has not been my experience with Dodge or GM. Their unions and their employees have bankrupted the company and the company expects that consumers will buy their product because it was made in America.... sometimes. They don't deserve my money. The American way isn't to sell a substandard product and then look to the government to make it all better. The free market should be allowed to decide this one. The free market decided that GM should be no more. F-k them.

One would figure that a former Major General in the Army would know that. Apparently he doesn't. BTW, retired General Jerry Curry is crazier than a sh**house rat.

The following (armed) organizations fall under the DHS: Customs and Border Protection, ICE, Secret Service, Coast Guard, TSA, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and the US Coast Guard. I'm sure there's more, but this is a lot. The cumulative number of weapons on their property books probably rivals that of the Marine Corps. They have lots of guns and bullets. They always have. They just exist under the same umbrella now, so clearly the only explanation is they intend to kill or enslave us all. Of course, the logic of the article is as follows: SSA buys 174,000 rounds and therefore they intend to kill 174,000 American Citizens. It says it right there in the article. I would have copied and pasted it, but the site is more diseased than a Thai prostitute so I didn't. By the same logic of the article we have 5,000 nuke warheads in our arsenal. Why else would we have them other than to Nuke 5,000 cities? Therefore, the US government intends on nuking 5,000 cities in the near future. There. Simple logic. Feel free to hide out in your bunkers. I'll be getting some ice cream over at 31 Flavors with all the other sheep that apparently have no idea that every fart the US Gov makes is a sinister attempt to put us in concentration camps.

Don't try to understand an irrational statement such as what this entire article is. Applying logic to the illogical is an exercise in futility. Most LEAs carry hollowpoints. Bringing up the Geneva Convention is stupid. Yes, our armed forces are not allowed to use hollowpoints. That is dumb, in my opinion. This article is attempting to incite fear and emotion instead of facts. As far as wasting money on JHP vs HPs; I don't know. Is it to replace aging ammo? Perhaps. My dad would shoot JHP during his quals to rotate out old ammo. I know, that is crazy. Our LEs should be using the same JHP ammo for generations, right?

Damn, my bad. I didn't see it. Honestly, I wasn't sure where to post this.... General, Newsworthy, Long Guns or Hunting.

When I say "chased off" I'm referring to the dog pile that ensued after his posted questions or articles written. I didn't take any of the articles to be biased. Maybe misinformed, but that is fixable through respectfully informing him instead of just hurling accusations that he is a flaming libtard bent on demonizing gun possession. But that is all a different story and I'm hijacking the thread. I just wanted to answer the question; I don't get the impression that the two cases are related. The post here is not grammatically similar.

I assume he's referring to Brian Haas with the Tennessean. He has been accused in the past of portraying anti-gun stories after coming here for info/quotes and such. I dunno, I think bias is in the eye of the beholder. Naturally folks are suspicious of media, but I found the stories to be done fine. A few things I would have done different, but that is because I would be considering things from a gunowner perspective and not that of a non-gun owning reporter. Kinda like taking a picture of a toothless yocal in real tree outside of a gunshow and using that in the article. To me that is misrepresenting the community. To him, he didn't see a problem and didn't have sinister intentions. But we did the right thing... we chased him off and closed the door on an opportunity to actually inform the media from a gun owner's perspective.

I won't take credit for the pun... I plagiarized it. This new salt shooter is designed to take out flies at 2 ft. I can see this being waaaay more satisfying than the bug zapper. Looks like the wife is gonna be hollering at me after walking barefoot through the salt. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/this-could-be-big-abc-news/put-away-fly-swatter-grab-bug-salt-140826678.html Oh, and in case some of you have a child or significant other deployed to Kuwait or Afghanistan right now... they need this. They don't need trail mix, candy bars or baby wipes.... they need this. Trust me, you will earn brownie points and it will be way cooler if they get to be the first kid in the platoon with one.

Looks like another T-1000 series has landed to ruin a movie franchise and remove that much more of my childhood innocence by introducing a mimetic robot composed entirely of liquid metal with no discernible circuitry or power source. Or it's a doppler radar.

Well, if you're in that giant mess of field grades and walking mattresses that exists across the road from the TLS I wouldn't expect your rotation to be going well at all.

I have two sets of Danners. One are civilian hiking shoes, low cut w/o ankle support. I have another set of military style desert Danners. Both are indestructable and keep moisture out. Only draw back is when they get wet, they get wet. Once that water comes over the top of that boot, game over. Getting them to dry out is a much longer process than with my other lighter, less water resistant boots which usually dry themselves just by wearing them. They are also pretty hot to wear the full height Danner boots in the summer.

NYC is like a person who nails down a bottle of Jack each night then wonders how they ended up with cirrhosis.
-
Well, I wouldn't be taking my Corcorans out in the bush. Jump boots are much a formal design nowadays and don't break in as well as modern day combat boots. With the deserts they issue now, they are GTG almost right out of the box, unlike the black leather boots that required soaking in water then wearing around the barracks/sleeping with them for a while before one would even consider the notion of strapping a ruck on and walking any distance with them. I've had an expensive pair of jump boots for a long time now, and someone literally has to die before I will put them on.

I still wear my old issued Army Altama boots from a long time ago. I'm guessing I'll still use them for at least the next decade. I'm sure you can find a good pair on the cheap at an Army/Navy surplus store. If you happen to be passing through a military town in the future it is something to take advantage of since you can find some pretty good deals at the surplus store.

I don't have any problem with a federal law that criminalizes the speech of uninformed morons. Bring on that ban.

I still go out of my way not to fly. In fact, recent travel of mine I decided to do my rental from home instead of flying and picking it up. I figure, if the drive is less than 6 hours, I actually save time by driving since the butt-pain of driving to the airport, getting there two hours early, then flying, landing and picking up bags takes about the same.

No, apparently not unless it's filtered. This from the same woman that loves expensive steaks but won't touch meat that had a name at one time. She thinks it is crazy that my grandparents name their cattle... then eat it.

So CA/PSYOPs doesn't have Airborne School as a part of the pipeline and don't require being on status? I figured from all those hooah cadences I heard on Ft. Bragg the shock troops of that organization were feasting on entrails of dead enemy while Halo-ing from the space shuttle and simultaneously machine-gunning hordes of VC... all to a sound track of '80s metal.... no?

The advantage here is that I can just watch the movies on Netflix. Unfortunately, I can't afford my own jet and I have to fly around every so often. If the free market could bankrupt the airlines due to the TSA, it would.
