Sure. Every organization in the government does it. In fact, I've seen it used as career stumper before, where an individual that had such an excess that wasn't used at the end of the year ended up with a negative bullet on their evaluation report because it caused the budget for the next year to be lower. The system is actually set up to encourage waste, and not doing so could cost you a promotion or position. Is it right? No, of course not. Is it normal? Absolutely.

Army to field new MRAP-W (Walker) Despite Budget Setbacks
TMF replied to TMF's topic in General Chat
My favorite part of the article is the last paragraph: "In a related story from the Taliban, intelligence officials have intercepted recent purchase orders for far less expensive “speeders with harpoons and tow cables†from Iran." -
No I didn't. It is a very simple concept. You quoted a response I made to another individual and somehow took it to mean something different. I'm going to stop caring about whether or not you can understand that. I know exactly what I meant, and there is nothing conflicting there unless you cherry pick quotes and take them out of the context they were originally used in.

I've literally started giving them away so they won't pile up. Two complete rifles and two upppers... although one upper was in exchange for yard work, but essentially given away.

For anyone that has ever been in an MRAP. This is a fun read: http://www.duffelblo...vehicle-mrap-w/

No complaints on mine. I have a buddy who has a 1911 in .40. If not for the ammo not being as popular and cheap, I would have rather gone that route. You don't see them that often though, and you're limited on what models come in calibers other than .45.

It's worth what ever you're willing to let it go for. Other than that, this reads like a classified ad with the exception of the first and last sentence.

Ugh... if my wife wore a thigh holster with a dress or skirt she'd never make it out of the house.

The DHS has the following (and more) agencies under them: US Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, National Protection and Programs Directorate, Transportation Security Administration, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Federal Emergency Management Agency, US Coast Guard, Secret Service...... it goes on for a few more. All those agencies above have lots of guns. Just ask them. They need boolits for them bang sticks. It just so happens that ammo is pretty expensive and one of the best ways to justify expenditures. The icing on the cake is that ammo is an expendable, so they can do the same thing next year if they have a lot of cash sitting around as they approach October 2013... let's hope by then their budget has shrunk a little.

There were lots of good reasons given last time around. Is this a new order? Also remember, this is the end of the fiscal year, meaning that gov agencies need to spend whatever is in their budgets so they don't get reduced next year. I know that sounds stoopid and wasteful, because it is, but having been a useless gov employee once, I can remember on many occasions sitting in a meeting in September regarding how much we need to spend and how quick we need to spend it. And regarding the fact they purchased HP ammo, it really means nothing. The other thread has all the explanations so I'm not retyping it. The thing to remember, if your job is turning wrenches on an aircraft, you have to accept the possibility that you don't understand the intricacies and inner workings of an organization that has multiple agencies under their wing. Perhaps, just perhaps, there are reasonable answers out there if you just look.

I thought I jacked up the title.

None of those people in the interviews are going to vote. Not that it matters, since it is New York. The advantage our system has is that people too lazy to educate themselves on the candidates and understand the issues are usually too lazy to vote. It amazes me they have no problem finding people like this. I don't think I've ever met anyone this stupid, but they have them lined up.

What will be Obama's 'October Surprise'?
TMF replied to 1gewehr's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
While I don't think that is his intention, it is certainly within the realm of possibility. Iran has warned military action against the US if Israel strikes, so even if we aren't involved in a strike Iran may be dumb enough to kick the hornets nest. They are more than capable of engaging all the major bases in Afghanistan, and it should be assumed that they have missiles zeroed at them right now. There are also strategic targets in Bahrain and Qatar, but I'm thinking they aren't going to risk firing into those countries. If Iran launches even one missile over the fence into Afghanistan, we're probably going to answer back with some shock and awe, which would be the only appropriate answer. -
I misunderstood nothing. I've just given up explaining simple concepts that should be self evident if one reads and understands context.

Any of the precision weaponry from the movie "Shooter" with Marky Mark. The part where he makes a first round hit on a can of baked beans from 1600 m away, whilst shooting across a canyon with at least 15 knot winds of varying directions and values which could not possibly be determined and/or calculated.... yeah, I was ready to give up there. I ended up holding out until the "sentry" sniper system. That's where I gave up and decided Hollywood just didn't put the effort I was hoping into this one.

Apparently they were right. Sounds like the system worked the way it was supposed to. Still trying to figure how they charged this guy and expected a jury to convict, since it would seem easy to prove that one is in fear for their life when another person has their hands around their neck, unless there are some new laws of anatomy and physics I'm not aware of. Not everyone has the quick thinking reaction to put the car in gear and gun it when another man's hands are squeezing their throat. Considering that it may take only 4 seconds to pass out if the assailant manages to cut off flow through the artery, yes, it would seem that would be fear for your life. Good for him. Let that be a lesson to road ragers. The prosecution should be spanked and replaced. Next.

I'm still convinced that this is a scam. The seller has no rating, as in has never sold or purchased a firearm on Gunbroker before. I get the feeling this is a scam.

Unsecured weapon, 3 year old child dies as a result
TMF replied to BravoLima's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Curious to hear the full story on this. Surely they ALL couldn't be at fault. -
I think the article hit the nail on the head with this. Not sure if it had anything to do with the "sexy" gun industry. I think that was more of a combination of shifting tastes in gun owners and the industry creating a new market through advertising. Either way, it's clear that the energy behind the 2nd Amendment has been born again on the interwebz. All the better. Good article. Other than that, I kinda want to use the goth chick as a play thing... she just has to cover her ears up.
