  1. I'm gonna go with lion. At least they are pretty quick about suffocating their prey.... unless it is a pride of lions that start to eat me before I'm dead. That would not be cool.
  2. There are only two ways to fix this culture and we aren't prepared to do either one. We can't "win" or expect any long term solution to the problems that plague this culture, so I'm confused at the notion of throwing troops, money and bombs at it. We only need to do that when the problem threatens our national security. We did that a long time ago. There was never the need to commit the troops that we did. Nation building is a complete joke when you're doing it in a nation of ignorant screwheads. It was different with countries like Germany and Japan. The people there had things like culture and pride to motivate them on the track to success. That doesn't exist in Afghanistan or Pakistan.
  3. I'm guessing there is some key information being omitted here. Probably didn't go down as reported in this news source.
  4. I was walking through Gatlinburg last night and was printing pretty bad with the wind blowing so hard. I was wearing a 1911 in an OWB. I don't even worry about it because the only people that would notice wouldn't care. I'm pretty sure no one out of the few thousand people I passed noticed.
  5. I have the Kimber pepper blaster. It comes out in gel form and has some good range on it. There are vids on YouTube which demo the range. I read a review on Amazon where a guy had a ND with one in the house and had to clear out for a few hours after being incapacitated from the residual. I'm sure even a center mass hit on a person would be enough to make them look elsewhere for trouble. I don't equate self defense pepper spraying to scenarios where officers use it. The reason a perp is going to fight through the spray is because he wants to fight the cops. Someone who is trying to assault you for whatever reason will probably not want to play anymore after getting hit. If not he still won't be able to pursue you very well. Cops have to worry about subduing and arresting folks; you don't.
  6. Cheating is a relative term. If everyone is doing it and finding ways around testing procedures I don't see why the witch hunt is out for this guy. I'm puzzled even more by the folks that talk about him like he murdered a baby or something. This is professional cycling; hardly something to be worked up about. I wouldn't care if he was getting steroids shot into him while he was simultaneously snorting coke off a hooker's ass and clubbing a baby seal. But then again, I stopped believing in the infallibility of heroes when Clint Eastwood did Bridges of Madison County.
  7. Ya, physics is a mofo, huh?
  8. Done it before too with a Beretta 96. Loaded up mags with 9mm; couldn't figure why it wouldn't cycle. Fired half a dozen rounds before I figured it out. Facepalm moment.
  9. I carry my 1911 locked and cocked everyday and my only safety concern is being pulled over, having a cop disarm me and have a ND with my pistol because he is nervous or not familiar with that weapons system. There is no reason why an officer in the state of Tennessee should be disarming a HCP holder unless there is a good reason. It says it right there in the TCA.
  10. Sounds like dumbass awards for the guys involved. While on the surface this may have all the makings of a terrorist cell, it is most likely a military terp that was booted for being a s***bag and went back to dry cleaning shirts for a living. I wouldn't be surprised if the falsified military documents were related to fraudulent disability claims or something along those lines.
  11. Well it's a good thing you're in no position to make those decisions. I'm pretty comfortable spraying anyone that aggressively crowds my space.
  12. If that is how you want to rationalize it, sure. I don't recall ever opining on what is ethical in the sport of cycling. It just seems silly to be so outraged about something that seems to be so rampant. I'm still trying to figure the outrage. Right/wrong? I don't care. If everyone in the sport chooses to bend the rules regarding doping I don't understand why the outrage exists here. Is it because he won? Would it be different if seven different athletes won the years he did even though they would have been doping too?
  13. I have a Kimber pepper blaster that I carry when I pick my son up from preschool. Bums hang out near there and I've been hassled at my truck a few times. I wouldn't classify the situation as one where I would fear for my life, but I'm not going to blows with a bum and risk picking up hepatitis, nor am i going hand to hand with my child there. One shot to the face would end the encounter and prevent anything physical, plus would be much less of a hassle than shooting and killing someone. That pepper blaster stuff has pretty good range and is a gel, so there isn't much blowback like with spray.
  14. For argument's sake let's say that all the doping allegations are true; so what? Everyone does it. The only difference is when he doped he won. Whoopdeedoo.
  15. Are we talking about an actual drag bag or just a soft bag with padding? I use a soft padded bag (eagle tac I think) which is relatively inexpensive. A full sized drag bag might be more than what you need, unless you're planning on using it for a place to lay on in the prone and organize your stuff on when shooting. A full sized bag (a good one) is gonna cost a bit of money. If that is the route you go make sure to get a good one. Decent padding, a way to strap it down inside the bag, and a divider so you can carry two weapons in there without them scratching each other. For that price though, I'd invest in a pelican case and cut the foam to accommodate those two firearms; at least you can fly a pelican case.
  16. I hope you're right; I certainly agree that he won't have the showing he did 4 years ago, but people are just being bombarded with misinformation and sound bytes and don't bother to research on their own. I don't have a problem with folks who vote for Obama if they at least know all the facts and choose him for those reasons. The ones that bug me are te folks that hear David Letterman call Romney some names and make their choice on that. I think the stupid are going to swing this one. I wouldn't be surprised if Romney got the popular vote, but I just don't think he can pull off those swing states.... too much stupid.
  17. That'll be great! Do you have an extra rod? If not I'll just rent one. Also, it'll give me a chance to get you a couple of 92f mags you PM'd me about a while back if you still want them. I PM'd you back when I returned to the states but I don't think you got the notification.
  18. Hi all, I'll be staying in the Gatlinburg area next week and was looking to try out some fly fishing one afternoon. I haven't done it before and wanted to give it a go. The wife is letting me off the hook one afternoon so I wanted to see if any fellow TGO'ers in the area that fly fish could accompany me for some instruction and some pointers. I'm looking to go on a good weather day anytime from Monday to Thursday. Thanks.
  19. I'm thinking it's gonna be close, but at this point I see Obama taking it. Romney debated well and has presented a better argument for the job, but I think this election is going to be decided by negative ads and ignorance. The media has really run away with BS sound bytes regarding the 47% thing and Big Bird, whereas I'm not seeing a whole lot about Obama bumbling through his debate. There are enough voters that will simply cast their vote based on how many times they hear their favorite celebrity bash the other guy; it looks like Obama supporters have that market cornered.
  20. I have a used, beat up P11. It shoots just fine. I've put a few hundred rounds down the pipe with no issues. I'd definitely take it over a revolver for carry. It's half the weight and twice the capacity. The bullets don't come out sideways or anything. If you can't hit a man sized target center mass from 10m it is not the fault of the pistol. Other than being cheap, rough and ugly, I can't think of a practical reason to take the revolver over the P11 for carry.
  21. TMF

    Words fail me

I have nothing but contempt for beggars. I support 4 people; I can't respect a grown man that can't/won't so much support himself. I'll be darned if I'll share any of my money with him. My run-ins with beggars are always very confrontational and are never cordial on my part. Especially considering that every sorry bum that has the nerve to solicit a handout from me is far fatter than I am. I'll start giving them donations when the start agreeing to hold my target stands up when I zero my rifles.
  22. The great thing about an AK is that it doesn't require much maintenance. They really don't. Having seen the condition of still functioning AKs in the hands of halfwit cavemen, I don't believe that M-16 series weapons would be good choices in an environment where maintenance might not be an option. If you maintain your AR it will go bang every time. If you don't it will probably fail quicker than weapons with looser tolerances. No biggie if you have the means to take care of your stuff. Based on my experience, if I had to arm some fighters who have limited trainability and would be operating in environments where access to cleaning supplies would be nil, AR series rifles would not be my first choice. I kinda think that is what folks mean when referencing going "bang" each time.
  23. Last time I was in Detroit was before the recession. It looked like a post-apocalyptic movie set back then. I can't imagine what it looks like now.... Don't really care. They deserve everything they have coming to them. They continue to elect criminals and allow gangs and unions to strong arm them around. Detroit is a hole because the citizens there have allowed it to happen. Eff 'em.
  24. Zero loss to society. Hopefully the other one dies and neither had the chance to pollute the gene pool.
