Let your conscience be your guide. It is one thing to sell at fair market price. It is much different to take advantage and try to cash in on the recent tragedy for your own monetary gain. I have a very low opinion of the latter, but I suppose those who are doing it don't care what my opinions are. I have at least a hundred or so mags kicking around. When the price gouging started I had no intention of putting them up for sale to cash in. If a ban goes into effect and the fair market price rises to stupid levels, then I would sell them as such if I wanted rid of them, but what is going on right now is stupid and opportunistic.
My solution is to get rid of the dog. Sell him or give him away. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if my young'un got hurt or maimed. It just wouldn't be worth the risk to me.
This, of course, is the solution if the problem can't be corrected. My wife and I rescued a stray a long time ago with nipping issues. We tried everything to correct it. She wasn't dominant or anything, just a fear biter. When our son was born we decided to find a home for her without children and explained the issue to the folks that adopted her. A very sweet dog, but would nip anyone that got near her face or touched her while sleeping. Some dogs can't be broke of that behavior, especially the nervous ones that bite out of fear. Like I said, the last and final option. Very sad to turn your back on a loyal friend, but not worth the risk to children if it is clear the problem can't be corrected.

Wait, there are Nazi concentration camps on Mars? Sh**!

Hell yeah.. I got a couple keltecs and a Llama worth less than a new iPhone and service!

Don't use an ecollar for this... at least not as a primary corrective tool. That is for aversion training and obedience. I have an ecollar for my dog for emergency uses, but dogs have different titration levels, so zapping them for offenses (especially when they're being defensive) may not give you the results you're looking for. Not saying it wouldn't work, but there is the potential there to make the behavior toward your child worse. Dogs and kids are unpredictable. You have to train them both by getting them to understand what is acceptable and what isn't. The correction should come from you, and it should come as a dominant. The Caesar Milan approach makes sense, but you might need to be more aggressive in your response of aggression toward your child in regard to holding the neck and exposing the belly. Also, get your dog use to the kid petting it in a safe scenario. Have the dog positioned to where it can't nip the kid without you intervening. Not laying down though or in your lap. With mine, I have her standing up as I talk to her and stroke her as my daughter pets her sides and grabs on her. You have to make the dog comfortable with the kid. I have two dogs that are jungle gyms for my 3 and 1 year old. The third I'm working on as she has shown defensive behavior toward them. You just got to get the dog to a level of comfort, but do it safely and don't associate pain with interaction with the kids. It will take a long time. I'm still working on it, but my dog has come leaps and bounds in the past few months we've been doing this.

Ha, I thought the World Health Organization was coming after my stuff now when I saw the thread title. Maybe next week.
Are there many instances of a beretta 92 eating new locking blocks, or is it "almost always" elderly locking blocks? Beretta does recommend changing out the locking block as routine maintenance (7500 rds?, 10,000 rds maybe?), along with certain springs. Even the most reliable car will leave you on the side of the road if you don't do recommended maintenance. My old G10 chevy van was incredibly reliable, never left me on the side of the road and I hardly ever did recommended maintenance, but one thing about it was weak wheel bearings. Hardly anything broke on that hunk of junk after a decade of criminal abuse and neglect, but every wheel bearing on the thang had to be replaced at least once. Maybe the locking block issue would be like calling my old G10 van unreliable because the wheel bearings were crap? :)
I haven't seen a newly replaced one break, but I've seen at least one break with less than 10,000 rds through it. I think it is more to do the type of use rather than the amount, or at least more in regard to the former. I usually seizes the gun up, but is a pretty easy fix and doesn't seem to damage the gun in any way. Other than that it is a great design. Perhaps the locking block just needs to be made from better material.

I'm just not sure what to think! (Firefighters shot at House Fire)
TMF replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
On Christmas Eve. Who are these people who feel that they need to destroy the lives of others because they are so miserable in their own lives? -
I spent three years of my life fighting in Iraq. Every house was authorized to have an AK-47, and there is no right to bear arms guaranteed by their Constitution. They were allowed firearms (fully automatic ones at that) because it was understood that Iraqis had the right to defend themselves, and the security situation was bad. This was a policy decided on between the military commanders, State Department and Iraqi government. There was no mass confiscation of personal firearms and Iraqis shot at us all the time. Unless we value the freedoms of Iraqis more than our own rights guaranteed by our Constitution then I don't see how what you are saying about our military makes any sense.
-
I stand corrected. That is pretty interesting since I understood it was a matter of orders and residence. In that case I suppose it would be a good idea for Soldiers stationed there to get a print out of that ATF opinion so they can purchase from vendors that aren't aware of the rules. I can recall a while back having a buddy who didn't go to the gun show in Nashville with us because he resided on the KY side of the border. Thanks for the clarification C. A. Willard!
-
Yeah, I know. I remember being in the Army and me and my buddies were always like "boy, I can't wait for something to happen so we can strip people of their rights and push them around." In fact, I was in a unit that was deployed to natural disasters such as Andrew and Opal. Man, let me tell you... we were rolling up grannies and gun owners by the gaggle and putting them in concentration camps as we wrung our hands and laughed about their rights. The silly ones were all the officers I had who would always carry a Constitution handbook on their person, even in Iraq. If it ever came down to it, I guess we'd just shoot those Constitutional "believers" in the back so we can enact our rape and pillage plan. Yep, automatons and thugs is how I would best describe my brothers in arms. Sarcasm off.

I'd have to disagree there. I've broken two locking blocks myself and have seen at least a dozen more break. Granted, they were being abused with thousands of rounds at a time, but that seems to be the failure point in the design.

"No-Refusal" checkpoints throughout Tennessee this holiday season
TMF replied to a topic in General Chat
Yeah, I tried to make that sarcastic reference earlier in the thread. My mom used to be a phlebotomist. I'm not familiar with any officers that are taking your blood roadside, so I'm gonna assume that the guy who wrote the article is an effing idiot and anyone believing his nonsense is not far behind. -
These all used to be great, informative channels to watch. They sold out to uneducated trailer people with government sponsored disposable incomes.

"No-Refusal" checkpoints throughout Tennessee this holiday season
TMF replied to a topic in General Chat
So officers take blood on the side of the road now and are equipped with a sterile lab in their squad cars to test the blood? Here I thought those were conducted in hospitals by nurse types or phlebotomists. I'm impressed that our officers have such wide ranging qualifications. -
Haha, I was under the same impression of it being proprietary, but they look so similar and Colt mags are the only ones I've come by. The Googler just keeps pulling up M&P 22 vs Colt 22 reviews. Can't sift through the crap to find out about compatibility.
-
Does anyone know if the Colt AR 22 mags will function in an Smith and Wesson M&P 22?

I'll not argue mechanical reliability Robert. Clearly the SCAR is designed better in that regard, however, having used all three of the rifles you mentioned in a combat environment, attending over half a dozen intensive shooting courses (much longer than two days) with the AR platform and expending hundreds of thousands of rounds through that same series rifle I believe I can speak intelligently on it. Through all the rounds I've fired from an M4/AR platform, I have never once had a malfunction that wasn't due to magazine, ammo or boot breakage. It is an incredibly dependable rifle. It just requires lube, which is a difficult concept for some (too much/too little), and that is operator head space and timing. I've stressed tested my service rifle putting at least 3,000 rounds over a two day period through it without issue. I don't believe that anyone here can carry that much ammo or will ever encounter a scenario where that much ammo must be fired in a life/death situation. Therefore, it leads me to conclude that, although it's mechanical reliability is top notch, there is no advantage for the weekend warrior having a SCAR vs an AR platform, whether in 5.56 or .308, other than cool factor. Not to say that isn't a good enough reason... I got a lotta cool stuff, but I'm not kidding myself into believing that my ARs, SKS, MSAR, AK have any reliability advantage over the other so long as I have access to lube every few thousand rounds.

Temporary Tactical Beard, a bit of levity right now
TMF replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Power is measured in beard length. -
The price tag is redonkulous. Get an AR10; it should work just fine. Not that SCARs aren't fine rifles, but I can't justify spending that kinda cash for something that is just as good as something 2-3 times cheaper. But then again, I have kids. If you're a single guy, go ahead and buy it. You'll get to be the first kid on your block with one and everyone is gonna want to finger bang it on the range. They are sexy rifles.

The LGS I was at today had a case of them they restocked the shelf with. The price was low, and I assume the same price it was several weeks ago. There were a few that came in and bought a handful, but the shelf was still stocked when I left. I thought about buying some, but I have seven already and am not going to add to the upcoming drought by hoarding.

Buy a Glock 19. Every home should have one. If you're concerned that you won't like it, buy a used one. You will be able to resell it if you don't like it for as much as you paid for it. Glocks are popular and retain their value. I recommend that you learn to shoot it before you give up on it though. Don't just dump two mags through it and decide it isn't for you.
