  1.   If you have a buddy who is a veteran or on active duty who is willing to register on Oakely, you can get them cheap.  Last time I bought a set was in '08, and I believe they ran me $45.  I remember seeing them in the Sunglass Hut in the mall for $120 at the time.
  2.   My mistake for not being clear.  The Flak Jacket and the Half Jacket take the same lenses.  The "new" design I was talking about was the Flak Jacket design.  I have two of those as well as the old Half Jacket.  The lenses are exactly the same.  I like the Flak design better because it sits more firmly on my face.  As a side, the Flak Jackets were better when I was in because they fit better while wearing a mich helmet.
  3. Know your limitations.  I would think that any amount of alcohol in your system will be something looked at in an SD shoot, especially if there are aggravating factors.  No two cases are the same, so it's impossible to predict what impact it would have.   I have a beer almost every day with lunch when I'm home.  I know my limitations, and I know how much I can drink before I feel any effect.  This one beer does not prevent me from operating a motor vehicle or carrying a weapon.  Some say it's bad to drink even a drop, but let us be realistic; does a drop of beer cause any adverse effect?  The issue with alcohol is most folks don't identify their limitations.  Some people can't have just one drink.  Some people are impaired after just one drink.  For some people, a "couple of beers" is a six pack.  Each individual is responsible for knowing their limitations and acting accordingly.  If you know you're the type who will drive and carry a firearm while impaired, staying home after you drink should be your answer.
  4. Ammo and neighborhood defense plan.  I live in the burbs, and since moving in I've only identified two houses in the immediate vicinity with actual men.  The rest are occupied by older folks or liberal types.  In the house next door is a couple my age with one young child.  The man of the house doesn't own any firearms despite the wife wanting a pistol in the home.  So yeah, plan is to make the 40 mile journey to the family compound if SHTF in my area if the road conditions allow.  Otherwise I have my work cut out for me.
  5.       Thanks guys.
  6.   Great thing about the half jackets is there seems to be and endless amount of aftermarket lenses.  There's a company which makes cheaper lenses for half jackets than what Oakley sells, I just can't remember the name.  I have set of polarized lenses from Oakley, and have been impressed with them.  I also have clear lenses and amber lenses.  Switching out takes 10 seconds.
  7. I've been rocking Oakley half jackets for at least 12 years now.  With the larger lenses that swoop low around the eye, they offer very good protection, and the fit on the newer ones conform to your face and stay really well (I say new but it's the model that came out at least 7 years ago).  Great thing is, once you've scratched them up good, just pop the lenses out and get some new ones.  It takes me about 3 years before I need new lenses, and I am not gentle with my glasses at all.  I have two sets of half jackets and they've both been to war with me several times over.  I wasn't gentle with them then either, and they protected my eyes quite well.   Ballistics wise, I would argue that they are some of the best out there.  I know there are some brands that state their lenses stop bird shot, but really, unless you're hunting with Dick Cheney, I don't see this as a big deal.  They ain't gonna stop bullets, so I wouldn't get too hung up on which ballistic lenses are the best.  It won't matter.   Edit: Also the reason I dig my half jackets is that they look normal to wear day to day.  They don't appear tacticool, which is nice.
  8. Hornady Critical Defense in my TCP.  Pricey to run a few boxes to ensure that it cycles well, but it does.
  9. The hell are you talking about? You posed a rhetorical question and I gave you an answer. Do you want this to just be a thread in which someone says they do something a certain way and some dick comes along to say how that's stupid? By all means, continue leaving poop all over this thread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Because some folks would prefer to have a rifle caliber in their vehicle. There's lots of reasons for that. Just because you can't imagine a reason why doesn't mean others can't. Now, I know it might be hard to visualize a lifestyle different than yours, but we exist; I promise. For those of us who would have to load up multiple children into their truck, it's an extra trip to tote a long gun along. Not to mention, I'd have to go through my stowage concealment procedures each time, which exposes the existence of my long gun to my neighbors each time I load and unload, which is attention I wouldn't want for several reasons. First off, I don't want to freak them out. Secondly, I don't want the teenagers on my street to get the impression I have stuff worth stealing, like a firearm. No, I'd much rather stow and go just once and not deal with the hassle. The spot which it is located is not a place which criminals would be looking for items anyway. I like having something with punch and round capacity when I leave the safety of my castle. Call me crazy, but I have precious cargo to transport, and I'm gonna equip myself with what tools I have available to me in order to better protect that cargo. So to answer your rhetorical question above, this is why I would risk a $400 truck gun. Lucky for me, there are literally millions of copies of this particular weapon, so I'm confident I'd be able to find another one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Perhaps for folks who live in an apartment complex. My driveway is monitored by a camera and very well lit. I suppose someone might break into it, but I certainly don't look like I have anything expensive in my 10 year old truck. If someone were to break in and find it, I guess I'm out $400 and I'll just go buy another one. Either way, I'm not going to let animals affect my level of preparedness. 13. I keep an AK shorty in my truck. Don't much care what anyone thinks about that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I know a guy who was hit directly with an RPG and survived. Apparently all RPGs are ineffective and useless due to my anecdotal experience. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Expect this to show up at a nearby pawn shop real soon. Thieves deserve to have their hands chopped off. There is no place in society for thieves. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. That's how I felt when I was younger. I used to call it a "speed tax". I got older pretty quick. Last time I got a ticket was over a decade ago, and that was less about speeding and more about me not paying attention to the speed limit in an unfamiliar area, and I was droned out from a long drive. I see no benefit to speeding. The amount of time saved by speeding is marginal, and doesn't make sense when doing a cost/benefit analysis. It baffles me when I meet folks who are my age and complain about being pulled over all the time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Simple answer is that Joe doesn't understand that most of the world runs on different voltage than the U.S. Many power strips found in Iraq and Afghanistan (on the base Hadji marts) will plug into a 220 style outlet, yet allow for a U.S. style plug to enter its ports. For most power supplies which go to gaming systems and computers (two of the most common things that Joe plugs in) they can operate 110-220. Joe becomes complacent, because that is what the POG does, and he plugs in a Kuerig without using a step down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. No. Just, no. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I've seen more than a few Kuerigs get smoked downrange by guys plugging them into 220 power. I've had two Kuerigs for 4-5 years. They do need to be serviced every now and then. Keeping them clean in the cup area is important if you want to keep the grounds out of your coffee. The only problem I've had with mine are grounds that get sucked up into the tubes through the needle spigot. Too easy to clean those out. I disconnect the hose from the spigot, use a paperclip to get all the grounds out, then run a few cycles of water through it until everything is clear. Do this once or twice a year and it should do fine. I'm a big fan because my wife and I have different tastes in coffee, and she usually makes hot chocolate with it in the winter. I go on Amazon and purchase K-cups in bulk when there is a sale going. You can get it cheaper that way instead of going to the store. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I can neither confirm or deny that. As you can tell, I'm extremely tactical and opsec minded, which is why I make sure everyone knows how tactically loaded out I am. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Folks like you are just jealous of my 5.11 pants with drop leg holster, and my Walter Sobchek vest.  I know that I'm better prepared than any of you sheep.  You sound like the type of hater that talks smack about my back up throwing knives I keep on my belt.
  23. As a general rule, folks who adopt a certain fashion as a way to fit into a trendy group are lame as hell to me. This isn't just hipsters. Hipsters are just as lame as the idiots who toss on a cowboy hat and boots and talk about how much more country they are than you. Trace Adkin types. It's a little irritating when "trendy" folks hijack something that was more or less meaningless, and make it mean something else to the general population. Folks, like myself, who don't want to be associated with douchebags are suddenly identified to be part of a trendy movement. Like I said, it's just a little irritating. 25. Crap, I forgot about that. I grew up on PBR and the hipsters now drink it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
