You can't legislate responsibility. If you could there would be fewer traffic fatalities, teenage pregnancies, and stray dogs. But our elected officials sure do try, God love 'em. They really try.
Spot on. I'd like to see legislation which targets criminals, not the rest of us. The common denominator in all this gun control talk is that the laws will only impact those who have no desire to commit a crime, as any of these laws will be ignored by a person intent on committing a crime. So what are we mitigating here?

Right on. For some reason I thought you had to put your firearm in the arms room even if you lived in post housing. I lived in the B's on Bragg and just kept my guns at a buddy's house.

Leon Panetta lifts ban on women in combat.
TMF replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's not a red herring. There is FAR more to serving in a combat arms MOS than pulling a trigger. In fact, being able to kill or be killed has nothing to do with it. It is the conditions one is expected to endure and the physical abilities required to endure it. Sorry, females are built different. Even the most physically capable women could not have done the things I've done. The standards would have to be lowered to include women, and they will. When that happens we are placing a higher value on social change than the lives of our troops and the missions they are expected to accomplish. -
No, you're spewing the wrong information. This crap is from over a month ago and it has already been proven wrong. I didn't insult you, so don't start with the crap talking. I'm sorry that Google is broken on your computer. And I don't see where the billy badass thing comes from. I don't think I would have an issue telling anyone to their face that this story is complete BS and why.
Yeah, unless one subscribes to conspiracy theories - there is not much to it other than poor reporting once again by NBC. Funny that it is just now making it's rounds. I have not seen this up until today. Sorry guys for posting junk. In my defense, I am not a reporter - just a messenger.
There was so much misreporting after the shooting that no one should ever bother referencing it. The nature of the media is to be first.... being correct does not come before being first. They were reporting "facts" from "sources" without verifying any of it in an attempt to get ahead of their competition. That first day I heard everything from there being a second shooter to the father of the shooter being found dead. Hell, the news reported for a full day that the shooter was actually the brother who wasn't even in the same damn state, remember that. They had his photo up and everything. This is the same reason why I don't watch the news the day of an election. Wait for these spazoids to calm the eff down, pull their heads out of each other asses and start reporting vetted information again.

No matter how much you don't want it to be true, he used an AR15. Get over it. It doesn't matter if he used it or not though; it changes nothing in regard to what law abiding folks should or should not have. Continuing to spread this BS is what makes our side look like conspiracy loons and hurts our cause. Using a report as fact (which was wrong because they didn't have hardly any facts, but they wanted to report stuff) makes as much sense as using media reports of Japanese peace goals on December 6, 1941 as proof that they didn't attack us at Pearl Harbor.
-
The media was wrong about a lot of things in the hours and days after the shooting. I'm baffled that folks are always quick to distrust anything the media says, but keep clinging to this one false report as if complete nullifies the subsequent investigation and coroner's report that claims a rifle was used.

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Te movies don't lie. I'm sure women are just as capable to strap a 100 lb ruck with a mortar baseplate on their back and walk for days through the woods. And if they're not, we'll just lower the standards! Surely there is no reason that standards exist in the first place. -
That's funny, but MRE's and a modern version of a liberator pistol air dropped with a note in Korean saying "There's more where this came from." would be hilarious to watch.
Much different than my Haiti solution. That one involved air dropping pallets of machetes followed by pallets of crack cocaine. Problem would work itself out in a week.

Don't mistake the headlines though. Women have already been in combat plenty. This has nothing to do with combat as the media would have you believe.
I don’t care if they are F-16’s, they wander over to Israel and they will be taken out. I wonder how Lockheed feels about supporting them, or what would happen if they refuse.
Lockheed doesn't have any official power to say otherwise when filling a contract, and it would probably be bad business to refuse an order on political reasons. However, I'm sure that amongst the inner circles of the MIC of DC, there is some degree of pushback when things like this go through. I think, once again, Obama took the calculated way out. I don't think this is about some kind of deep seeded hatred of Israel, but more of a lack of consideration. If Obama stops a shipment that was already promised to Egypt (albeit, promised when Mubarak was in power) he is having to make a decision that will upset the Arab countries he tries so hard to appease (a la Neville Chamberlain), however, if he just fails to make any decision and lets it happen the only negative press he gets is a few stories on Fox News, which, lets face it, is mostly watched by people who already have their minds made up on Obama. So the truth here has more to do with Obama lacking a spine than a determined mission to undermine Israel. On the bright side, those F16s and Abrahms tanks don't contain all the high speed technology which we have in our equipment. Certain technologies with in those platforms are withheld from foreign countries. We gave the Iraqis a lot of stuff too, to include F16s and Abrahms tanks. They might as well be a cool looking T-72 and Mig-21s. Israel would turn them into scrap with the quickness if those were ever deployed against them. -
In addition to TMF's post i recommend you go see your PAC and get your state taxes changed to TN wich has no state income tax.
Oh yeah, good call, once again. I always forget about the commie states. Willard, while we're on the subject, you mentioned in another thread you mentioned you were an MP once. On post, how would one go about taking their POW out for carry? I never lived on base so I have no idea how it works.
Hello everyone, I am soldier recently got stationed in Ft. Campbell. I must say that I like this state, keeping the right to bear arms to its citizen, big differencewhere I came from CA. Anyway, Im hoping to learn more info from you guys. Thanks
Be advised, as a Servicemember you can apply for your carry permit without having to attend the HCP class. It'll save you some time and money. Once you have been issued your HCP you are permitted to carry your pistol with you. If you live on post this is kind of a pain though if you want to take it with you everywhere. http://www.tn.gov/safety/handgun/handgunfaqs.shtml#q8 How Do I Obtain Military Training Exception for the eight hour handgun training course required by TCA 39-17-1351? The Department of Safety and Homeland Security is mandated to require applicants to submit proof of the successful completion of a department approved handgun safety course. An applicant is not required to comply with the firing range and classroom requirements if within five (5) years from the date of handgun carry permit application the applicant successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military. There have been many interpretations of this statute over the last several years. Letters have been submitted from commanding officers, DD-214 forms, military ID cards, Honorable Discharges and General Discharges as verification of training. On March 4, 2011 this process was clarified with the standardized usage of the Department of Defense form (DD-2586) to document handgun training of not less than four (4) hours. At that time we were informed that all branches of service completed a standard verification of military experience and training on the DD-2586. On December 8, 2012 the Department was informed of two forms used by the Army which capture combat pistol training (DA-88-R and DA5704-R). These forms can now be used to verify military handgun training. The movement of the United States Coast Guard from the Department of Defense to the Department of Homeland Security altered this procedure. The Coast Guard utilizes a U.S. Department of Homeland Security, CG-3029 to capture handgun training. The CG-3029, DD-2586, DA-88-R and DA-5704-R are the only documents acceptable for obtaining military exception to TCA 39-17-1351. Samples of all documents and instructions are available on this website.

Kimbers are legendary but I agree they are overpriced. Sigs aren't frivolous, you get the engineering for the dollars-IMHO
I musta got one of those few Kimbers that go bang when you shoot them. Also had 12 TLEs as a unit issue. Never a malfunction. Luck again, I guess.

It is a no go for any parks on the list. There are more parks than just Heritage and Liberty that you can't carry in. Of course to find that information out you would have to follow the link posted or call the local PD, since there are no postings at any parks.
-
I have a CAI built SAR in 5.45. It shoots straight and has never malfunctioned through the thousands of rounds I've tossed downrange. Like all other AKs, I would not estimate it's value above $400. The only reason I value any AK higher would be for collectible purposes. Otherwise, it's a friggin AK. I will not malfunction if you lubricate it with sand. I don't care where it's made or with what metal it is made with. If it can survive thousands of rounds without malfunction, falling apart or the rounds coming out sideways it has achieved the pinnacle of what an AK can be expected to achieve in quality.
what can i do to help? point and i will follow.
It would require folks in each Ward to contact their reps and get their opinion on carry in parks by emailing an intelligently written document outlining the reasons why banning legal carry does nothing to stop illegal behavior perpetrated by criminals. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/49036-clarksville-parks-carry-thread/?hl=%2Bclarksville+%2Bparks

They can opt out. Anyway, the problem is I believe there is support for legal carry in parks. From what I understand there are only 3 die hard anti gunners on the council. If we had a concerted effort to change the law and influence our Ward reps I think we would see it changed, but not enough people care enough to do anything so screw it.
