Should Gun Owners Have To Buy Liability Insurance?
TMF replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not everyone has the money to smoke cigars and go out to eat. Many folks defend their homes with hand-me-down firearms and firearms that cost less than $100, which was a one time fee/purchase. I realize your moniker is your attempt at sarcasm, but posts like these reveal it to be true. -
If you are ever in that situation you will not notice how loud the gunfire is. I absolutely promise.

They don't consider that commercial? -
This picture has so much fail. This would elicit one of my famous "barefoot in the kitchen" references.

Sorry, you misspelled "common sense" twice and do not understand basic punctuation or capitalization. It is difficult to take anyone seriously on a subject referencing knowledge and intelligence when we can't master 3rd grade level stuff. -
Decorated Veteran Arrested In NY: Charged With 5 Felonies
TMF replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm going to make a prediction that he will take a plea deal so that the state can sweep this under the rug before it gets too much press and the guy will probably jump at the chance to take a misdemeanor and not risk becoming a felon. Seems to be the MO when an otherwise law abiding person gets rolled up for violating their silly laws which do ABSOLUTELY nothing to curb crime. If they spent half as much effort going after actual criminals as opposed to criminalizing law abiding citizens they might actually put more bad people in prison. -

Don't let the name fool you... The "Good Idea Fairy" rarely ever lives up to her name. She is responsible for the woes of this country. Maybe, sometimes, not every problem requires a solution and sometimes "problems" aren't really problems. -

No matter how you slice it, turning someone into a felon for possessing a spring, piece of plastic and a small piece of aluminum is absolutely crazy. These aren't exactly bomb components here. This is the kind of crap that happens in Europe and we laugh about what a police state they live in. This is insanity. -

I love how the media will reference something from a movie as if it is true. Hollywood used a .50 Barrett in the SWAT movie a few years back. In reality, just about anything can bring down an aircraft if it damages the engine. A .303 bolt action Enfield brought down a AH-64 Apache helicopter in Iraq. Better add that hundred year old rifle to the ban list.

Machine gun fire from helicopters over Miami

Somehow I think the men who run and operate within the tier one units which took part in this exercise are not only smarter than most, but also have a great degree of common sense. I'm not sure what echelon you found yourself at within the armed forces, but you have ZERO concept of unit training plans if your answer to everything is 29 palms out in California, simply because we paid a lot of money for it. Besides, the word was put out to the public that this scenario was taking place. Even the news was there live when all this was going on. If a few people don't keep up with the news, oh well. Too bad I guess. Somehow these things happen all the time and nothing significant happens other than a bunch of people with no knowledge of how these things work bitching about it on the Internet. -
Most of the prices on Armslist were redonkulous before the Great December Panic. Every day someone would post a "custom" AR with a bunch of Tapco crap on a crappy lower and call it a super tactical craptical, and list it for $2,000, when a new rifle with all the Crapco stuff would be under a grand. I remember sending an offer to a guy on a bolt gun which he had put a bunch of crap on that I didn't want and he was genuinely offended by my offer. Folks seem to think you can put a fancy dress on a five dollar hooker and that will increase her value, when in reality it is still wore out and ugly under all that fancy dressing.

I'm out of town for a while, so I have to wait until I get back. I wouldn't imagine Allen's would over charge though. I was in there a coup,e of weeks after Sandy Hook and they still had Pmags at pre-panic prices. I ended up buying a new pistol while I was in there for cheaper than most online retailers.

What the hell difference does it make whether or not our current theatre had high rise buildings? It would be stupid to only train to the abilities necessary for the next deployment. That kinda mindset would have had us preparing for jungle warfare in the years leading up to 9/11. Goog thing someone had thought about desert training. On a side note there are plenty high structures in Afghanistan. In fact, when I was in Kabul last year one of the HR units in country responded to a building take over by roping on the rooftop to retake it and kill the combatants. And who says they're training the police officers? I've done at least a half dozen joint training events with local, state and federal law enforcement from one coast to the next, and in every operation the LEAs were playing OPFOR. It gave them an opportunity to train on their tasks while it gave us an OPFOR which simulated a hostile indigenous police force. Don't let your assumptions run wild and see things that aren't there. This is normal and happens all the time, and will continue to happen no matter who is in the White House or how many Alex Jones subscribers there are. -
Anyone still see these for sale? When the panic started these were still pretty easy to find. But I haven't seen one locally in a while.
I was lucky and picked one up in early November on a whim. I'd been wanting to get one for a while, just hadn't gotten around to doing it. I have an uncle that wants one real bad so I've had my eye open to pick one up for him since he can't find any where he lives. I used to see them in Walmart all the time. I assume Walmart is still getting orders filled on them, just a matter of being lucky enough to be in the right place in the right time. Once things go back to normal my advice to anyone who has ever considered picking one up would be to buy it. Not only do they retain their value, once you buy one you're not likely to sell it for any price. If someone offered me a grand for mine I wouldn't sell it.
I wonder... will the 2013 models of guns be 'not as good' ? I just imagined seeing a metal worker on this 18th hour of grinding metal be a little tired. If they are pushing that stuff as fast as they can... it's got to hurt quality somewhere right?!
Still gotta pass QC. I'm not too worried. I imagine manufacturers are offering overtime to employees right now to try and meet demand. I think that in the long run those who had patience will be rewarded for it. I might go and get a new AR if the market gets flooded enough to lower the prices significantly. I'd hate to have there be a ban in the next decade and not have one for my son to have when he's old enough.
Oh how I drool looking at the X-Five. Saw a pic on the web, and went ballistic until I called my dealer to see about ordering one. Cha ching. And that was a year ago. I love Sigs, have owned and shot several models. Some people dislike how the controls are different and you have to retrain to operate them effeciently. They are fine firearms regardless.
I shot the one that Graycrait used to have. I would easily dump my 1911 for it if there was a more concealable version (shorter barrel and no rail). It is, by far, the nicest shooting pistol I've ever fired. I can't explain it, but the trigger is better than a 1911.

So you think your safe is safe?
Had an alarm with good monitoring, metro PD's response time was pitiful. (just under an hour, then 4 more waiting for an officer to come back and write up a report) Burglers were in and out in under 10 min. Neighbors saw a white panel van but thought little of it. It happend in broad daylight around 10am in a very densly populated neighborhood. (Lenox Village off Nolensville Rd.) There were over 100 burglaries in Davidson County last month alone. . .
They robbed your house with the alarm going off the whole time? That's pretty brazen. I'm planning on backing up my alarm with surveillance cameras that cache data locally, but will send still shots over the web to an email account when it senses motion, so there is no way to destroy the evidence. -
I started with the locks on the house, they are the first line of defense to protect the guns and everything else in it. We had a loss of over $20K in a burglary before I started taking security more seriously, even with insurance it was a lot of work replacing what was lost and getting the money out of the insurance for the replacements.
I pay 30 bucks a month for an alarm system. You can't beat that peace of mind. Not too many criminals are going to hang around with an alarm screaming at 135db, but if they did the response time of police has been pretty good when our neighbor's alarm went off. -
Tax Act will do it. Will walk you through every tax facet possible in life and generate every IRS tax schedule that exists. The only things it won't do is cheat or make math errors. :) - OS
I know, I've used turbo tax in the same manner with success, it just takes more than an hour. What the software doesn't tell you is how to use the tax code to your advantage. I have a coworker that gets his advice from a CPA. He saved him an extra few thousand just by telling him to put some money into his IRA before the end of the year, otherwise that money would have just gone to the government. I max out both our IRAs every year, and that helps us lower our taxable income, but I need the help of a professional to keep the greedy Democrats from taking more than what is reasonable.
I have some in-laws that use to swear by CPAs, nothing wrong with CPAs, everyone has to eat. About 5 years ago, for kicks and giggles, I did my in-laws taxes after they had been to the ole trusty CPA; the refund was precisely the same. In the long run, I have saved them considerable amount of money. Now doing taxes yourself is not for everyone, however I am not intimidated by the government, and I can read up on taxes myself if the trusty store bought software doesn't suit my needs. Yes it takes time, but my time is free. Just my 2 cents. I am an extreme eccentric about avoiding services of any kind, likely less than 0.1% of the populous. If I could write my own Rx, and cut my own hair (at least prestenable), I would avoid doctor and barber visits too!
I rather go to a CPA and let him keep however much more I get on my return than have that money go to the government. I'm at my threshold for how much I'm willing to give those crooks and they just crossed it this year. Once October rolls around I'm meeting with a CPA to find out what I have to do to get in a lower tax bracket.
Turbotax. I see no reason to pay someone else to do what takes me an hour.
When I was a young single guy who rented, had no wife or children and only a single job, I would be in the same boat. Once you cross the threshold of getting married, having kids, owning properties, multiple retirement accounts, home improvement projects, professional related expenses not covered by your employer........ it gets a little more complicated.
i would say OMFG and suit up cause the TERD HAS OFFICIALLY HIT THE FAN!... I doubt they try those shenanigans around here lol would be a black hawk down... how stupid is the military...
I've done stuff similar to this in TN before. Never an issue. The military isn't "stupid". In fact, there are more college degrees per capita in the Armed Forces than the general population. We have an all volunteer force in the most advanced military in the world. I've heard somewhere that in order to have the most highly trained military on the planet, you actually have to conduct training. I know that can be an extreme concept for civilians to understand, and that's why you are civilians. If you were Service Members or Veterans the concept of realistic training wouldn't be such a revolutionary concept to grasp. -

I'm only willing to spend so much money protecting a 400-500 dollar gun that will be replaced by the insurance company anyway.
