I don't think anyone here is trying to justify anything here, but when you hop in the snake pit you run the chance of getting bit. -

Actually I take that back... I'm not so sure you'd have luck with an SA-7; I doubt there is enough signature from the engine to get tone. -

Well, they were confirmed to be press so I'll take their word for it. Seems like the story matches up well enough to make sense in the absence of evidence to the contrary. It really isn't any different than the reporters who imbedded with us. If one of them gets smoked by an EFP, that doesn't mean that Al Sadr was targeting the non-combatant, it just means the reporter was unlucky, and that is the risk you take. If it was an American reporter from Anywhere, Nebraska who was killed in a similar incident I would feel the same. The war still goes on whether you're a combatant or not. If I knew there was a reporter, American or not, inside a building that held enemy, it would not change my decision to try and cut it down with a .50 cal. This guy was legitimately killed whether he was aiding the enemy or not. -

Chill out there high speed, if you look back I was responding to someone else's post. If you read even further back I pose that the circumstances may have been out of context, but there is still no excuse for another man to be with your wife drinking wine, alone, after hours. -

The best way to avoid such situations is to not marry a whore. I've seen more marriages than I can count fail when I was in the Army, and I saw it all coming from a mile away. It isn't hard to identify certain personality traits in women to determine which ones are likely to sleep around. I would find it almost silly when some dude acted surprised that his wife was a slut; if it's obvious to everyone else, how can it not be obvious to the person married to her? I know the answer to that question, it just blows my mind every time I see it. -

The fact that he is paralyzed is icing on the cake to me. The small pleasures one is allowed in prison such as exercise and social contact won't even be available to him. He has nothing to look forward to day by day, and doesn't even have the capability to kill himself. I expect him to be drivin mad by his new reality if he hasn't been already. He is one of the few people I don't want to see put to death. I want him to suffer. -
I know. It was the perfect "in" for a good Marine joke, but I didn't want to offend anyone.

Yuuuup. I remember during my early days in the Army there was a fellow Soldier that would bag wives left and right when their husbands were in the field. Not hard to do as they prowl the local bars with intentions of screwing someone that night, and I'd say the husbands are partly to blame for marrying a whore, but his reasoning was that "someone was going to bang them anyway, why not me?" Those were his exact words. Aside from ethics and morals, I explained to him that when one of these dudes comes looking to kill him I will not have his back. He was my buddy and all, but if some guy smoked him over nailing his wife I wouldn't feel bad for him. We all make choices.... -

Yep, if I was a cop and society broke down due to natural disaster or civil unrest, my first thoughts are my family. No way would I abandon them for a job, especially in the scenario where the gov can't even pay me. Nope, I'll just let them fire me so I can keep my family safe. If that entitlement tit ever does go dry due to economic collapse, all those folks who believed that the government is responsible to protect you from harm will feel pretty darn stupid. I'm reminded of that scene from the new Batman movie where the criminals loot Gotham and throw all the earners on to the street. Won't be happening in my neighborhood, but in the ritzy gated neighborhoods with homeowners that abhor firearms and thoughts of violence.... well, they would be an endangered species. Of course, the moral of that story was that the police will eventually come to the rescue.... I noticed that they purposefully left out the notion of the people fighting back. Yeah, that movie sucked in every way possible. -

Referring as to the mass number of NOPD that simply abandoned their duties in the wake of Katrina. I'm sure many of them had their own families to worry about and such, but in the face of civil unrest due to the tit going dry I can't see many officers doing anything different. -
I think you miss the point on where this practice originates from and why it was established. If anyone wants to throw a burqa on and tool on down Printer's Alley, more power to them, but I'm not going to be fooled into believing that the widespread practice of doing so is not designed as an oppressive tool by oppressive governments. Muslim women in America may still wear a scarf or such to cover their hair, as many come from countries where that is normal and many interpret the hadiths to suggest pious women of the time did so. That is a far cry from a government that mandates an outfit that covers you head to toe or else you'll be beaten and/or thrown in jail. I know we all hate it when folks start comparing things to Nazis, but lets ponder a moment on the connotations associated with a swastika. While it is a person's right to sport one, you can't deny what that symbol represents. Mandated garments designed by governments to oppress women carry their own connotations as well. While a person is free to wear it and subject themselves to a life of subservience, they are stepping into a very dangerous realm when they put that garment on my child. Same as if they wanted my kid to wear a swastika for holocaust awareness day.

To be honest, I saw the title of the thread and was not expecting to be surprised if it were true. -
There is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between someone who voluntarily wears something due to religion or conservative nature, compared to a garment which is mandated under penalty of violence or imprisonment. That is what burqas and chadors are in the countries they are worn.

Based on my experience I'd say that it has changed for the better. I've had a lot of interaction with CPD and all the experiences were positive so far. Then again, I've never once been pulled over by them. I get the impression that there are quite a few veterans on the force, plus there is an appreciation of the sacrifices made by Soldiers and their families at deployment time. If you cruise the mug shot database linked in The Leaf Chronicle, you don't see many Soldiers in there despite the fact there are a whole bunch of them in town. Most the mugshots of Soldiers you see are DUI or domestic violence, not silly charges designed to screw with joe. Overall, I'd say that Clarksville is the most military friendly town (located near a major base) I've seen in the country. It isn't like Fayetteville (Bragg), Columbus (Benning) or Tacoma (Lewis). Those places are still awful to Soldiers.

10:30 at night, drinking wine together? Yeah, perhaps there is a reasonable explanation, but those facts point to something else. If I came home unexpected to find another man in my home having wine with my wife, there's gonna be some problems. Furthermore, any man should know better than to be in that situation in the first place. That's how people get shot... case in point. -

Best way not to get hit in a drone strike is to not go to Yemen and hang out with AQ. Would have been no different if it was an American reporter with ABC News that happened to be doing an interview with a targeted AQ member at the time of the strike. I'm reminded of that reporter/camera man team that was killed in Iraq by an AWT strike, and the footage leaked to the press. Everyone is up in arms as if the pilots should have had a copy of their press pass or something. Everyone overlooks the fact that they were imbedded with armed fighters. Sorry, that's a risk you take. My heart doesn't bleed for these folks, and I think we have very real threats to the constitution without having to stand on the graves of evildoers. -
I try hard to see validity in the other side's argument, but these people are consistently just wrong and stupid. How could she say such a stupid thing that is wrong on so many levels and not even be called out on it immediately? PTSD in new because of Iraq? He'll, why not include Afghanistan in there, since that is a current conflict? Oh wait, I know why....

I appreciate you taking the time to read it with an open mind. One thing I'd like to add, based on my experience and what I've seen during my time throughout the mid-East, the thought of someone having my daughter put that on makes me blind with rage. I realize that a very small percentage of the population have experienced such things as to see simple garments as a tool of oppression and objectification, but ignorance is no excuse IMO. Wearing a burqa is demeaning to the wearer no matter the context.

Right, I see that. I was asking has it been illegal up until now? If so, I break the law all the time when shipping my big pigstickers back and forth.
