  1. I'm going to look at this with a bit of skepticism until there are facts. A mysterious "Dr. X" with altered voice coming out about this with no hard evidence is not enough for me to get spun up about. Some of it sounds plausible, but I know that things have changed over the years to answer the mail on veteran suicide. Trying to remove firearms from the homes potentially suicidal vets is something the VA is going to do. The potential for them to overstep their bounds is completely possible, but I don't believe that is part of a larger plot, just typical knee jerk and inefficient government policies. I think what the "Doctor X" talks about are symptoms of a broken a system rather than a sinister plot. Seriously, anyone who has dealt with the VA knows how effed up they are.
  2. Exactly. The date is most likely coincidence. The reason this was targeted was because there would be crowds of people and access to the area is relatively unrestricted, unlike large sporting events held at arenas.
  3. I hate that the media forces us to know who these people are. I like to stay informed and watch the news. I can't go to a news show or news website without seeing something about these Kardashian sperm receptacles almost daily. Why? I don't want to know who these people are. Why does the news want me to care?
  4. Just for the record, concealed mustaches are banned on my property.
  5. Same way they always do; student visa.
  6. Well don't get too offended by that. Stereotyping is a natural thing folks do based on life experiences and how they perceive the world. Generally speaking stereotypes exist for a reason, but of course are not 100% accurate. They can be real time savers though. Just the other day my liberalish wife locked the doors to the car as we were sitting in the parking lot and two young black males approached our vehicle who were dressed in thug wear and sporting several gold chains on the outside of their clothes. For all I know they were investment bankers, but chances are they were of the criminal element. Could I be wrong? Sure, but I'm not going to wait to be proven right by not paying attention to potential threats. After all, 90 year old ladies haven't hijacked any planes that I know of, but military age middle eastern men have... a lot.
  7. Somehow I believe that if there ends up being an excess there will be no issues finding a home for those lowers. I'm down for two, but if someone backs out I'll scoop up a few more. I'm sure I'm not alone on that.
  8. That's good to hear. I figured a lot of folks used their discretion on that, and that makes me happy. I was worried about folks trying to scoop them up and selling them on Armslist or something.
  9. How many 4473 have been competed in the past 4 years alone? I don't know. I've seen conflicting numbers posted about the Internet. It think I saw one the other day that said around 60 million. Do you know how labor intensive it would be to create a database of all that if they wanted to? All those hand jammed forms? I suppose it could happen, but considering we can't afford to deploy aircraft carriers on routine deployments, I don't see that happening.
  10. I put up 3 free 30 rd AR mags and they set for 12 hours. The way things are right now I figured they'd be gone in minutes. I just don't think many people look at this thread.
  11. Eh, I get the sentiment here, and surely there are folks out there like that. However, just a couple days ago I was at Rural King and saw a gentleman OCing a very nice 1911. I wouldn't have even noticed it had I not been looking at the display he was standing next to. Normal looking and nicely dressed. If I was one of those folks who tucked their shirts in all the time I'd be carrying the same way. Some folks just haven't caught up to our culture's informal fashion yet.
  12. You seem to be under the impression that passing new laws will stop crazy people from doing crazy things. Yeah, we're the irrational ones here, huh?
  13. No, you're right. But I also have no expectation that grizzly bears will take care of the hippie problem, it just happens sometimes. I'm not connected enough to know what went into the process of pulling his permit. I think at some point I even predicted he would get it back. But the humor here is simply that bad stuff happens to dumb folks. Right/wrong? Not at all part of my chuckle.
  14. Deep down Hanoi Jane always wanted to have her face pushed down into the pillow by a knuckle dragging M60 gunner with a necklace of ears from the bodies of lesser men. I've been to the left coast. I know how them chicks are deep down.
  15. In all these cases mentioned the folks in question went out of their way to act like lunatics for attention and it ended badly. Perhaps there is a moral to the story, I dunno. I don't know if I'd use the term "deserve" in a judicious sense in regard to them losing their HCPs. Kinda like a person that decides to live with grizzly bears in the wild and ends up being eaten by his cuddly forest friends. Perhaps being mauled to death isn't a deserving punishment for stupidity, but it certainly is likely outcome that should have been considered by the party involved, plus it's somewhat poetic. Am I a bad person for being amused by the dumb stuff people bring on themselves? Probably. But what has two thumbs and didn't have to drop several grand to get his HCP back? This guy (points at self with both thumbs).
  16. You're right. Change my number to two. Never can have too many lowers.
  17. Makes me wonder what will happen when a law abiding citizens who gets one of these letters in the mail to turn their guns in says "no". When they are given the HVI terrorist treatment for doing nothing other than refusing to surrender their rights it will be a very interesting development.
  18. Probably because suspending his HCP was moot, since Yeager is himself a deadly weapon.
  19. I dunno, why doesn't everyone have health insurance? Why don't people wear seat belts all of the time? Why do some carry a firearm everyday to prevent their untimely demise, yet get most of their artery clogging nutrition from a drive thru?
  20. Well, I do respect the profession and the amount of education and experience my children's doc has. In fact, I was just at the pediatrician yesterday for my daughter's checkup. I'm smart enough to know what I'm dumb at, so when it comes to medical opinions and advice I will default to the professionals. If I didn't trust her opinion I'd find a new doc. I just fail to see where firearms ownership becomes relevant. I guess it could fall into the same category as dangerous household chemicals; as I recall we were given pamphlets and such regarding what to do if your child comes in to contact with such chemicals... I'm pretty sure that's where the poison hotline number that's been on my fridge for the past few years came from. But the difference here is the invasive questioning: "do you own firearms?" If the doc is trying to check the block on advice to new parents it would seem less invasive to simply add during the counseling session, "if you own firearms be sure to secure them so that your child cannot access them." That would be far less invasive and no different than checking the block on household chemicals.
  21. Because I got the impression that the haircut was objectionable based on the response of the parent. I could be wrong. Perhaps the parents see no problem with that, and that is their business. However, if the school has rules then they need to follow them and teach their kid to respect the rules. The reason schools have turned in to pre-prison is because parents are doing a poor job of leading by example. If they have no respect for the rules how can they expect their kids to when they get older.
  22. Put me down for one.
  23. We're talking about a dress code at an elementary school for crying out loud. The school has to draw the line somewhere. Many public schools have much stricter dress codes to include uniforms. If kids need to use clothing and haircuts as a means to express their personality it shows a lack of creativity and security in their identity, in my opinion. I'll add that the parent's response regarding why the kid got that haircut "because he wanted it" shows how weak the parent is. If you can't say "no" to your kid you are not going to be a good parent. We are raising adults, not children.
