  1. To be fair, I heard this kid took performance enhancing supplements to achieve his record.  I think maybe the best solution to this problem is to "Tyler-proof" the contest by introducing certain criteria to make the challenge more "fair".  If he still continues to win the contest we launch an investigation into whether he took supplements to aid his accomplishment, such as ginkoba to help with concentration or candybars to keep him energized and awake.  Once we prove his guilt with our witch hu-- er, investigation, we can strip him of his previous titles and make him a pariah in the reading community.  Then we can retroactively award 1st place to all the runners up in the previous competitions, regardless of what means they used to achieve their status; even if they also used ginkoba and candy bars.... well, because we just don't like it when it's the same person winning.   Making things fair is awesome; I love me some fair.
  2.   After I posted my comment I thought about this.  I do agree.  I think the reason that the G19 is the default it because so many people have them, and the 9mm config is the jack of all trades when it comes to accuracy, concealability and capacity.  I would say the .40 cal config takes a close second.  Due to the fact that a 23 can do both I can get behind the statement that the 23 truly is the ultimate in terms of being good at everything, but not the best at anything.  That is what I look for in a pistol.
  3. This is your post below. JAB, on 17 Aug 2013 - 09:50 AM, said: I interpreted you words to be generalities, as in you are saying here that due to the inherent risks, a cop should never be able to sue anyone for any reason when they are injured on the job. That is bull. If a criminal injures a cop, a cop has the RIGHT to sue them for damages. Just as if the criminal was to injure you. If you are saying that I incorrectly interpreted that comment above, then so be it. It just seems what you described applies to any situation where a cop is injured, not just a case like this where the cop is suing someone other than the individual who injured him. In a big coincidence, a LEO family member of mine was injured just two days ago after catching someone in the act of dumping the body of an individual they murdered. A vehicle chase ensued followed by a foot pursuit. This family member of mine had his hand broken during the subsequent struggle with the suspect. The injuries to his hand are so severe he will be undergoing surgery tomorrow and will require plates. He will likely have a permanent disability due to this injury. At a minimum he will be on paid leave until he is healed enough to ride a desk. This will, of course, come at a great expense to the tax payer. The personal expense to my family member will be the permanent damage to his hand, which will undoubtedly affect his career, quality of life and cause extreme pain and stress. He absolutely has the right to sue this drug dealing murderer. He may not get anything out of it, but that isn't the point. He still has the right. Anyone that says otherwise can shove it up their ass.

We have PEQ15's.......you cool guys have LA5's. Slightly different lasers. I didn't know there was a difference. I do know that nothing in the sopmod II kit will work unless you are on relaxed grooming standards and have a sterile uniform.
  5. Did you not believe them when they said they would charge you for shooting above the line? Your outrage makes no sense. If you so vehemently disagreed with the policy then you should have never shot there in the first place. To get mad about a charge that you knew would be made is ridiculous. Maybe, I dunno, you should have shot below the line like they told you.
  6. There were comments specifically stating that cops being able to sue is wrong because dealing with dangerous criminals is in the job description. As for this cop suing the woman, like I said, I'm not a lawyer. No, folks should not be made to feel scared to call 911, but I don't think that's what this is about.
  7. You're confusing corruption with discretion. Can it be abused? Of course. When it can be proven as corruption then by all means we should address it. There are lots of good laws that aren't automatically enforced with citations, arrests and court appearances. A cop simply telling you "don't do that" is good enough sometimes.

Gotcha. Never used one of those before.
  9. The sky in my world is blue. The thing is, there are plenty of things that should be against the law that cops should be able to use their discretion on. It ain't a matter of looking the other way, it's a matter of discretion. A good example would be moving violations. We need traffic laws for order, but does that mean the officer should be left with no choice of discretion? There was a time where cops were respected because they didnt haul every little punk off to jail; they just told them to straighten the hell up or else next time they're going to jail. It isn't a matter of stupid laws 100% of the time, it's about sensible enforcement. This case has nothing to do with either though. This guy was a felon in possession of a firearm and was only let go because of the relationship with the Sheriff. That is corruption, not selective enforcement.
  10. You don't see the difference between not enforcing a law and enforcing a law that wasn't passed by elected leaders? Really? If cops weren't allowed to use their discretion on what laws to enforce then prisons and jail houses would have 20 times the number of inmates. It would also mean that you wouldn't get a warning for a moving violation. Every cop that ever was has selectively enforced.

FA in a gunfight ain't a good thing for a lot of reasons. When that adrenaline is pumping, I can't imagine that one wouldn't gorilla squeeze that trigger in the moment. Not a feature I would prefer.

If you pull it halfway it fires on semi.  If you pull it all the way back it goes full auto.  I can't see that going wrong in a gun fight.
  13. I'm all for a Sheriff not enforcing a law because it is stupid.  However, destroying records and releasing someone who has already been booked on account of the good ol' boy system is very different.  That is corruption.

You think the dummy button on an Aussie Steyr is weird, I remember shooting an original FA STG 77, with the selector being how far back you pulled the trigger.  I realize that's how the Aussie's work, but they still have the ability to disable it.

I know of a Cav CSM that solved that problem by making his joes eat with their weapons slung to their chests.  Makes sense in spirit I guess, but in an already cramped chow hall it makes it difficult to get around folks because they're sitting 3 feet from the table.

Yeah.  Now a lot of units have LA-5s or whatever they're called now.  They're smaller than the PEQ-2A and run on a 123 battery.  In addition to the IR beam, these ones have a visible laser on them too so you can scare Hadj and screw with feral cats; I'm pretty sure that's what it said its purpose was in the manual.
  17. I've been watching Al Jazeera for years. It's no more terrorist propaganda than CNN. I realize that isn't saying much, but it's still more reliable and unbiased than MSNBC.
  18. It was only a few years ago that they were authorizing 10 days paternal leave when you're kid is born that doesn't count against regular leave. Now there's gay leave just for being gay? This is the kinda crap that sows the discontent that liberals love to feed off of. God forbid you say that authorizing additional leave based on sexual orientation isn't fair... you open yourself up to the emotional argument of: "You know what's not fair? Blah blah blah....." I'm convinced that people who argue for change are always as bad as the people they're arguing against. I like where I am in the middle, where I can see clearly that both sides of nearly every issue is run by lunatics.

Reminds me of some house property coax 240s that were desert camo painted, to include the barrels. Now, I still don't understand the need to camo a crew served machine gun which sits atop a big ol' humvee, but I found it hilarious that the barrels turned the spray paint camo pink after they heated up.
  21. I know this may not be true for all departments, but all the cops I know down in Florida run tags on the computer in their car. My cousin, for example, works in the ghetto and just runs tags all night looking for a hit so he can interdict drug traffickers and get guys who have warrants out on them. He says what the dealers do is have cars registers in the name of a female family member or girlfriend who doesn't have a criminal record. So it is a matter of profiling, however he says its pretty strict in regard to PC for a stop. They have to commit a moving violation, have an expired registration or warrants out on the person it's registered to.

Barrel change??? These guys were still at the "brass to the grass" level of training. I won't say the unit out of respect for the vets here from that unit (wasn't 101), but these guys were yahoos. I remember when they shot up a couple of unarmed civilians from a static position from only 200m. They fired somewhere around 50-100 rds out of a 240 at these two and only wounded one in the leg. I wasn't sure which on to make fun of them for; shooting unarmed civilians or not being more successful at it.

Oh, well in that case the last time I saw a unit that had standardized all that crap it was 8 years ago. One of the BCTs out of the 101st had a ridiculous SOP; so much so that they had to mount their carry handle on the handguard rail of their M4 so it wouldn't get lost. Nowadays everyone has their own type of sling and different issued grips. The grip pods are popular with Fobbits so that they can set their rifle down easily when in the chow hall. Personally, I think those things are a tactical nuisance; I have one that I only throw on when I'm zeroing. Too heavy, long and they would get hung up on everything.
  24. Congrats. It's always a gamble between the devil you know and the devil you don't know. I've done well to leave a job in the past when you hit that wall where it just ain't worth it anymore. It still is scary having to start over though.
  25. There was a guy in my basic training company who told the drill he was gay so they would boot him. The first sergeant told him if he called his parents and told him he was gay he would have him chaptered out. He did not call his parents.
