Tipping based in the price of food is kind of a guideline, not the absolute rule. The idea is more customers equals larger tab which equals bigger tip. A lot more goes into providing service to a 4 top table versus a 2 top. Customers don't see all the other stuff servers have to do for their tables. It's a lot more than just grabbing a tray of food and running it out. So for the waters thing, if I use a coupon, order water or a cheapo meal, I'll adjust my tip accordingly so I'm not leaving a small tip simply because my tab was el cheapo. Likewise, when ordering bar drinks I make sure to factor the price of the alcohol in because the server has to tip out the bartender at the end of the night for bar sales at their tables.

I never said I tip for bad service. 15% is for standard service, that's all. Really good service will yield a larger tip. And no, I'm not sure what you're basing all your extensive knowledge of the restaurant industry that you keep suggesting servers are demanding higher tips from their customers. I go out to eat all the time. I haven't experienced this tip revolution you're talking about. Just because you may have heard a server or two whine about poor tippers doesn't make you an industry expert. How about you just accept you may not know what you're talking about since you've obviously never worked the job. And the last thing, why the hell are you so wrapped up in the minimum wage thing? It is not a minimum wage job. If e highest expectation a server had was to clear minimum wage then there wouldn't be decent service, anywhere. It sounds to me like you heard a server complain once and you're basing all your knowledge of the industry on that and you're coming here just to bitch about it instead of listening to people that have actually done this job before. You should have included the disclaimer in your original post: "I'm just here to piss and moan; I'm not interested in actual information from people who know things."

Here is a dose of Big Brother you might not like...

Here is the point I'm always making; it isn't the government that's the problem. The government is only a symptom of the problem. The real problem are your fellow Americans. They are the reason our gov sucks and so much of the population is on gubmint cheese. So what shall we do about that? I think the list of what we shouldn't do to solve the problem is much shorter than the list of things we should do. Revolution is never an option until such time we no longer have the right to elect our leaders. To overthrow the government is pointless, because half this country will still be turds. So what would a new government do? How would a new government fix that problem without violating the basic principles of liberty? I don't see how that equation would work. Revolution only guarantees one thing; exchanging one overbearing, tyrannical government for another. The problem is cultural. We still have the means to do things the right way, and that is how we should continue to do it, good bad or indifferent. I see anyone challenging our government with arms while we still have a voice at the ballot box as a much larger threat to liberty than Obama, which is why I wouldn't hesitate to throw on a uniform again if that became an issue. Just because we are losing the fight against socialist encroachment doesn't mean we don't still have the means to win the right way. I think revolution just sounds sexy to people that haven't seen women and kids full of bullet holes or in trashbag sized pieces on a regular basis. I won't stand for that kind of violence initiated by people who are either throwing a tantrum or they read only the good parts of our own Revolutionary history. I know what it looks like and I don't want it on our shores. -
Some of this really amuses me. There is no law against tipping, but you're an absolute flaming turd if you don't. If you don't like the tipping system in the restaurant industry then don't dine out. You're just being a mooch off everyone else's tipping. The thing is, if servers were paid a regular wage and tips weren't expected it would drive out all ambition from the industry and you would end up with the same type of people who work at McDonald's, not to mention the food prices would just absorb the cost. The way the system is set up, it puts you in control of how well your service will be. Want crapy service, go to Waffle House. Don't walk into a nice joint where some server is working hard and then stiff them with a crap tip out of some BS principle. If you had principles you wouldn't be eating there in the first place. Just sounds like people hiding behind BS principles so that they can be cheap. Chances are if you can't comprehend the restaurant industry tipping standard you never worked in the job. And I don't know where the 20% rule came into play. I've never heard that. Many servers who make 20% or more is simply because they go the extra mile to give their customers a good experience. 15% is still standard for standard service. 10% for slightly below standard (just running food pretty much) and below that is crap service. If all your server is doing is running out food and drinks then they don't deserve 20%. I eat out all the time, so I know this is generally not the case. Some folks may disagree, but they are doing so because they fundamentally disapprove of the system. Being so disingenuous tells me everything I need to know about that persons position; they can't be convinced otherwise because they know everything there is to know despite never waiting tables in their life.

I'm going to start homebrewing in November with focus on Ales. Been looking into it for a while and now I'm finally gonna pull the trigger on it.

Haha, yes, I do see the irony there. Of course, the meaning of the statement actually supports what I'm talking about. I'd be more willing to fight against a cause I believe in if the way it was being furthered was morally wrong; kinda like abortion. I believe abortion is morally wrong, but bombing abortion clinic workers is not morally straight either. -

I guess you'll never know how amusing this statement is to me. -
If someone did that to me I would either get them a different server, allow them the chance to start over or ask them to leave. Being a server doesn't make you a lower order that whores themselves for tips. You don't lose your self respect simply because a person gets to use their discretion on how much they think you earned. This scenario paints a picture of the patron using the money as a way to control the behavior and aspirations of a servant. That shows low character on the part of the person offering. I wouldn't care if the potential tip was $10 or $1,000; my first instinct would be to tell them to get f**ked.

How exactly are we qualifying "defense" here? Technically I agree with the rights for this professor and Voldemort to do what they did, but I think both are lunatics who deserve every bit of negative action that results from them opening their phallus holsters. I think there is a big difference between defending a persons rights and defending how they chose to exercise them.

So you're saying that sometimes he tucks his manhood whist observing himself in the mirror, commenting on whether he finds himself attractive enough for sexual relations? -
Servers who make crappy tips are either working in a low standards restaurant (like Awful Waffle) or they are crappy servers. I was a waiter for a few years. I made awesome money despite the fact I can't stand most people. Bottom line is you're selling a service. If you aren't good at it then you won't get paid for it. Servers need to expect to do more than just run food and drinks to make their tips. They need to make it a pleasant dining experience by adding to the atmosphere. That doesn't mean you have to be up your table's ass, but you need to make them walk away having had a very pleasant experience. If you don't your tips will reflect. The industry tends to be dominated by young women, since they are fun to look at, but dudes can clean up too. We just have to work a little harder and pay attention to detail. I made great percentages; usually about 20%. Yeah, there are those people out there that just won't tip well or at all. You tend to get a feel for those people (they're always aholes and they convince themselves the reason they don't tip is principle, yet those principles are strong enough for them to eat at a non-tip min wage establishment) and the service and attention I gave those people reflected their historical tipping amount. The number of people (back then) that didnt tip were so low it didn't matter; wasn't even enough to get worked up over. I've come across many servers that do nothing but complain about bad tips. These are usually entitled little snots that believe they should get great tips without having to do anything beyond the minimum standard. Those people generally don't last long. If they do, they are the worst servers you'll encounter. They don't get it and they never will. Always the victim, blah blah blah. I almost always give a server the benefit of the doubt when I get subpar service. They may be weeded because they are picking up slack for more tables or another server. Maybe they're just having a bad day. Very seldom to I give a crappy tip. I can count on one hand the number of times I've given out no tip at all, and they deserved every penny of it.

The way I interpret your original post I quoted was that you would condone revolution over voting due to voting not returning what you want. If revolution is your choice you are choosing to involve your kids in the fight. They will die of bullets, bombs or starvation in the event of widespread revolution. Any insurgency in our country would last for decades before both sides came to the table. Whatever age your kids are, if they survive to 16 they will find themselves on the battlefield. I don't want that for my kids. I value freedom, and so long as I have a voice in government I will not resort to violence. We still have a voice. Individually your voice doesn't matter, but collectively it does. Choosing to default to armed rebellion because you're not getting your way is beyond what I can comprehend. There are many more nonviolent strategies that can be employed to shift us back in the direction of the base principles of liberty; we aren't effectively using them because many of the people on the side of liberty aren't willing to let go of political lead weights. That is not going to motivate me to sacrifice myself or my kids on the altar of freedom, simply because other people refuse to pull their heads out of each other's asses. In fact, while I may believe in the ideals of those who would revolt, I would fundamentally disagree with the manner in which they choose to revolt, to the point I would don a uniform once again to put those people into the ground. -

Madrasah is simply Arabic for "school". All schools could be called madrasahs, even Christian schools. I don't doubt that he as heavily exposed to Islam at a school in an Islamic country, but I think the connotation Americans attach to "madrasahs" is out of ignorance of language and culture. Obama is a Muslim sympathizer, but I believe he believes in the Quran about the same as he believes in the Bible. The only thing Obama kneels for is his own reflection. -

About as good as any society that elects their leaders.... half the country throws a hissy fit and the other half realizes the guy they voted for hasn't done what he promised. As for revolutions, I'm sure you'll be volunteering your kids first for the meat grinder if you're strong in your beliefs that option B is viable. -
Yeah, I gotcha. I just didnt have any recourse I felt comfortable with to make it right. I was concerned with either messing up the rifle or breaking my table going past 80 lbs.
-
I've always used a torque wrench when doing builds and have been able to acheive between 35-40 ft lbs and still line up the gas port until a recent build. I actually email Dolomite on this one because I was worried about it. I could only get to about 20ish ft lbs and still have the nut line up for the gas tube. Trying to get to the next notch to accommodate the gas tube took me as high as 80 ft lbs and still couldn't get it to line up, and I didn't feel comfortable trying to get it tighter for several reasons. I backed it off to the previous notch and went with it. Shoots fine.

The irony of this being written on an internet forum. -
I'm beginning to believe we might be gaining a lot of ground in the hearts and minds of middle America. Perhaps more due to the transparent and unjustified liberal assault that took place 9 months ago than to our own efforts. We just need to get the whack jobs on our side of the fence to simmer down for a while so we can maintain the moral high ground.

Intent is everything. Start there and then you'll be able to work your way through the problem.

My iPhone autocorrects dirty words to innocuous ones like "shut" and "ruck". No Siri on mine. I don't see how folks can have such wacky words without it already having been used before.

To make it simple, if you can't interpret their message to determine their real intent, then the message is for you. You are the people they don't want there.

I've been with mine for 10. Never once turned down a request. Don't think I could either for a few reasons. Other than the obvious, chicks take rejection much differently than we do.
