  1. I despise that area, it's been ruined.  Wife and I made a quick over night get a away to Helen, GA last year (think small scale of Gatlinburg with a German theme.  As we are walking down the strip I commented "they have all the same **** here as they do in Gatlinburg."  It's all a bunch of Chinese made crap.
  2. I grew up in Wilson County.  Back then sports were big, guess there is organized sports of just about every kind there now.  There's a church on just about every other corner county wide.  I spent much of my youth scouting, Boxwell Scout Reservation is one of the finest Boy Scout Camps in the region, being so close we camped there about a weekend each month and then a week in the summer, lots of good memories.  Also fishing and boating opportunities are plentiful being really close to OldHickory Lake and close to Percy Priest.
  3. I've packed everything from a .22 revolver to a 870 with slugs and buckshot while camping and hiking.  It depends a lot on what part of the state you are in and what your intent is.  (i.e. if I'm carrying a .22 it's going to be for plinking or small game if that scenario allows.)  For the purpose of this post I will assume that whatever you are carrying is purely for protection and not recreation or a chance at harvesting game.  If you are West of the Smokey Mountains bears are not normally an issue, though they have occasionally been spotted as far east as Cookeville they are rarely ever seen out of the mountains.  Disclaimer: I live just at the edge of the mountains, I can see them out my back door, I've never seen a bear within 10 miles or so from here but see them often closer to the mountain.  I would estimate that I see a dozen or so per year, but I do spend quite a bit of time in the woods.  That said, they are generally not a problem as long as you are smart about your interaction with them.  Still I carry a gun in bear country for the same reason that I carry a gun to Walmart.   So, for activities west of the Smokey Mountains I'd just carry what ever you normally carry.  Pigs are about all you may run into that will give you any problems.  Feral dogs perhaps as well.  Snakes are no bother, if you have time to take aim at a snake you have time to turn around and walk the other way, they won't chase you.  As the others have said the two legged critters are the ones you need to worry about the most.  Don't know what it is about nature that brings out the methheads and pillbillies.
  4. I believe they do.  If it wasn't posted this will be the largest mass shooting in a carry legal zone in modern history if I'm not mistaken.
  5.   Very good observations.  Was hoping someone would chime in with an educated opinion.  I really hope you are right and the officers actions were justified.
  6. Nope actually saw it on Facebook.  I know there are two sides to every story.  I hope I'm wrong I just can't see how this was legitimate police action.
  7. I know there are two sides to every story but I think the pictures pretty much sum it up.  This is absolutely disgusting.  All three of these "LEOs" need to be in the unemployment line in the morning.   http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2614386/Tennessee-police-photographed-choking-unresisting-college-student-passes-out.html
  8. I would steer clear of any used gift card unless you know and trust the person you are getting it from.  I spent several years in loss prevention and in that time I spent a good deal of time messing with gift card fraud.  I remember one circumstance where we canceled a gift card after a thief stole merchandise and then returned it.  The customer then pawned the gift card and it was purchased by an elderly lady.  That old lady was pretty upset that she had spent something like $250 for a $400 gift card that was no good. Thing is you have zero recourse if you buy a bogus card.  If you decide to buy one anyway, meet the seller at the store, have the store tell you the amount on the card then use the card immediately.
  9. I'm a cheap SOB and I like Glocks, so I've come up with my own solution.
  10. Inspired by ramblings in another thread.  I got curious as to the carrying habits of people who carry.  I carried all day everyday for years but due to a recent job change my personal habits have changed.  Just wondering what the rest of the world does.
  11.   Most people I know carry on their person most of the time.  I do know quite a few "car carriers" though.  Might make for an interesting poll topic.  I carried on me everywhere I possibly could until a recent job change.  New job (small company) allows carry but the nature of the job is not friendly to the gun (very dirty.)  For the first time in years I'm not carrying near as much as I used to.  Glad I still can when I want to though.
  12. I've been a member of a number of forums over the years.  These days it's TGO, and a small forum where we all know each other in person and just use the forum to communicate and share news more than anything else.  I was active on motorcycle forums for many years and I'm all but completely out of them now.  I still ride but have a family and don't get to ride as much.  Some of the forums went down hill, another I was very active on but it was a model specific forum, I got rid of mine and tried to stay active on the forum but it just wasn't happening.  I was on a larger gun forum and pretty active until I found TGO then kind of lost interest in the bigger forum.    I will say that my best forum experiences have been smaller to say medium sized forums.  Forums where you recognize the names of most everyone that posts.  I've also found that I kind of enjoy it more when I actually have met members on the forum in person.
  13. I'm just going to throw this out there.  I worked loss prevention for several years, including a short stint at Walmart.  Removing the bar code or defacing a bar code is enough to get you a shoplifting charge due to the fact that the merchandise can no longer be sold.  Nothing they can do about hiding merchandise though.  I guess a manager could ask you to leave but managers at Walmart have a response time of about 3 hours more often than not.
  14. I call BS, like you could actually find a Walmart associate.

    Bersa .380

I have a Thunder .380 that I bought brand new in 2004 for $157, those days seem to be past.  Functions great, eats all ammo I've ever fed it, is accurate as all get out, tough as heck, and a pleasure to shoot.  Downside?  For it's size and weight I have several other guns that have 3 or more of the following qualities over the Bersa; lighter, higher capacity, smaller size, bigger caliber.  Obviously it's not one of my favorite carry guns but it is reliable and is one of my favorite shooters.

  17. I think we are around $500 a month on groceries.  We are a family of 3.  We eat mostly organic and natural foods, very little if anything that is processed.  Daughter is intolerant to most foods so we spend a lot of money buying a bunch of food that most of you have never heard of so she has more choices.  We buy our meat from a local butcher, we get our meat for the same price as grocery store meat thanks to coupons, it takes a little extra work though.  Though our grocery bill is a little high for a family of 3 we off set that by eating out very rarely.  My wife and I eat out about once a month when my daughter is with grandparents, just not fair to take her along when she can't eat the restaurant food.
  18. Glad to still be here.  I probably tend to stir the pot a bit but I try not to use a spoon bigger than my mouth.  I also try to make a valid point when I stir the pot and really try to educate or at least present a different view on something instead of attempting to belittle whoever it is that I'm talking to.  If I've ever offended anyone on here I apologize and would be glad to buy you a beer sometime.  Personally even though the gun wasn't aimed at me this time for all I know I could have been 7th on the list, so I will be paying closer attention to what I post.   As for those that got hit with the ban hammer I'm not sure of their exact actions but was glad to see a couple of them gone just because of their demeanor in general, hopefully the forum now consists of people who bring more to the table than they take away from it.
  19. I see no downside at all.  No one will be getting drunker, crime will not go up, alcoholism will not rise, no matter what the hardcore conservatives may tell you.  (Not something I normally say, but I try to be enlightened)  If anything it will help commerce, give beer drinkers more choices, and if we are lucky give us some brews that we can own and brag about because "they make this where I live."

    Other hobby

For me it's photography and motorcycles.  I seem to collect cameras, camera equipment and motorcycles, I have 6 at the moment.  I have a motard for the twisty stuff and dual sporting purposes.  Another DS project bike.  I really like to tour and have a touring bike but haven't been able to much due to life and having a full time job.  I also race mini bikes in a local league.  Never been into the cruiser bar hopping thing, nor will I ever be, I have no desire to own a heavy, poor handling, underpowered bike that doesn't out perform my old touring bike in any form or fashion.
  21. Sam, were you the guy that hit the rock wall on the right northbound just before mile marker 4?  I remember that crash.
  22. If it has teeth and/or looks good, it's a cop!
  23. Are we not all, as consumers, entitled to judge whether someone is price gouging or not?  Personally I would have no issue bashing a gun shop that was blatantly gouging their customers (say selling $100 bricks of .22.)  More questionable gouging I wouldn't personally do it.  Of course if a fella was pricing his goods fairly then he wouldn't have anything to worry about.
  24. Because you are taking advantage of your customer.  Not that I would feel bad for a customer that isn't willing to do their homework.  The right thing to do will be subjective to each individual, I think it's clear that you and I have a different idea about what the right thing to do here is.  I'm looking at this scenario from the standpoint of a consumer and that is all.  As a consumer I would not shop at any establishment that had a history of price gouging.  I'm sure others here feel the same way.  When it boils down to it a seller can do as they please but when they make questionable calls they may loose business over it.  I'm completely in favor of capitalism and with it things like this happen, fortunately thanks to capitalism I'm free to go shop somewhere else as well.
