  1. For the past two years I've either not had a cell phone or I've had a prepaid Tracfone.  The Tracfone has met my needs until recently.   Now I'm in the market for another smart phone.  I would prefer to stay away from the larger carriers such as Verizon.  Having a good coverage area would be nice as well but wouldn't be a deal breaker.  I don't need a ton of data, just want to be able to look something up when need be.  Pricing is important as well, would like to spend $40 a month or so.  Heard some good promotions advertised from Boost Mobile the other day but don't know anything about them.    So, who is your carrier, are you happy?  Pros and Cons?
  2. Wouldn't worry about the color of the barrels, the deer could care less.
  3. I for one enjoyed AB's post just because I knew that he was always going to post something off the wall.  I didn't necessarily hold what he said in high regard just found it interesting.  If he was as smart as he claimed to be he would understand that you can't just say whatever you are thinking here.  Heck sometimes I have to sit back and devise something other than what is currently going through my head, but that's the way it is here.  I consider myself a guest here and a long standing member should know what is acceptable and respect that.
  4. I was always taught not to treat people with disabilities any different from others.  Hmm, seems that works both ways now.   Seriously though.  I'd say anytime an incident occurs and you make it out unharmed without shooting then you did the right thing.
  5. Good idea calling the cops but we were in a dead zone miles from service.  Looking back now getting the tag number and making a call when we got back to town would have been a good idea.
  6. This happened to me years ago, and to this day I'm not sure what the best way to handle the situation would have been short of hastily breaking camp, or just leaving our stuff there and getting out as quickly as possible.  Anyway here's what happened.    I'm in college, two buddies and myself decide we are going to camp out down by the river.  We've done this before and never had any bad run ins.  The locals are known to be unhospitable but non aggressive, meaning they won't bother you but they won't give you help if you need it either.  Setting is Jackson County, Tennessee.  Location we are camping at is a wooded area a quarter mile from the paved road.  We have our camp set up and are cooking wild boar over an open flame, it is sometime shortly after dark.  As we are having a good ole time headlights pull up on the opposite side of the river.  We really don't think much about it until they start firing a handgun in our direction, we could hear the bullets impacting around us. Quickly we are dashing for cover and I retrieve my handgun from the truck.  Keep in mind it's dark so I can not see the shooter.  I don't have a flashlight bright enough to cover the distance and I'm not sure that it would be wise to give my exact location away with a flashlight anyhow.  I consider firing warning shots, but I've always said warning shots are stupid so I don't.  I reevaluate, I consider that if they know that we have a gun they are going to go find someone else to mess with, then I consider that they may have guns and if they cross the river they will have the advantage on us because they know our exact location.  I finally decide to not fire any warning shots.    The subjects leave.  We are relieved.  About 10 minutes later we see headlights coming down the dirt road that leads to our camp.  It takes about 10 minutes to get to where these guys were on the other side of the river to our camp by road.  At this point I have my handgun on me.  Before the car gets there we run for the trees.  We are 10 yards from the fire and it is 10 yards to my truck past that.  We stay tucked down for about 30 minutes.  The car is just short of our campsite and has just been sitting there, apparently no one has gotten out.  We are not sure if they are watching us or what.  After about 30 minutes the 3 of us quietly make our way to my truck, quickly get in and drive up to the paved road.  As we pass the car there are two males "asleep" in the front seat.  I think this is very strange.  We turn around and go back to camp, as we come upon the car from the rear the tail lights look very much like the tail lights from the car across the river.  We sit around the fire.  We figure that the guys are close enough that if they get out of the car we will hear the doors open anyway.  About 1 a.m. I look at my buddies and tell them that we can stay if they want but I'm not going to get any sleep, they agreed.  We broke camp and headed back to town.    Years later I'm not sure the best thing that I could do.  I think we handled it relatively well.  My guess is that it was local people trying to get a laugh out of scaring us.  I think about this a lot when anytime I'm camping by a river.
  7. This will pass with time.  For now carry just in places where you are comfortable and eventually it will just become second nature.
  8. Like the majority of the guns I own I have no practical use for this thing either.  It's just something fun to do.
  9. I know the politically correct thing to do here is let it slide.  I work too hard for my stuff to do that.  I'm not by any means saying I'm going to shoot some high school kids.  But I would do my best to have a confrontation with them.
  10. Never been into radio controlled stuff except for cars when I was a kid but I received a Syma X-1 quadcopter the other day as a gift and I've had a lot of fun with it.  I actually managed to lose the first one in about 5 minutes, even after spending a couple of hours looking for it I still couldn't find it so I ordered another one off of Amazon for $29.  I'm sure some others here fly these as well?  I'm really impressed by what this machine does for the money.
  11. A local east Tennessee bank, ORNL, who by the way, has less than gun friendly policies tried this with their employees recently.  It makes me sick, I know I have some twang, I'm proud of it.
  12. Heck of a deal for an entry level 1911.  If that that is your budget it may be a good gun for you.  I'm a sucker for a bargain but I was lucky enough to get a good high end 1911 at a time in my life when I had some excess income and honestly have no desire to enter into the budget 1911 market.  Again not putting this gun down, just saying if you can afford a nice one buy it and don't look back.
  13. After looking over the website I'm still skeptical.  But if it works it may be worth looking into.  Even still it would take forever to produce a significant amount of ammo with this thing.      http://22lrreloader.com/
  14. That's my neighborhood but I've never eaten there, I'll certainly be stopping in based on principle alone.

    Barbecutie

I'm a cheap buzzard, but I'd pay more to eat somewhere that welcomes my gun.
  16. I picked up my 336 10 years ago for $125.  I was told it had only had 20 rounds through it, it was like new and still had the inspection sticker on the underside of the forearm.  Still I've used it.  It's my back up deer rifle to my .270 which see's at least 75% of my deer hunting action.  But it's there, it's not going anywhere, and if I need to use it I will without hesitation, I didn't buy it to sit in a safe.
  17. I agree that this is your best bet.  Problem I see with a pre paid legal agreement is your case getting handed to some rookie, made it through law school with a D average flunkie.  I'd rather hand choose an attorney with a proven record.
  18. I hear that they go great with a side of carp.
  19. Glad to hear this because Groupon is about the only business I "cheat on" involving their forearms policy.  We try to only eat organics and we use a lot of their $100 of Meat for $50 Mother Earth Meats Groupons.  Also planning on taking a vacation for our 5th aniversary and have been shopping Groupon for packages, they really do have some attractive offers.
  20. We have a name for people like that.  We call them girls.
  21. Reminds me of the best South Park episode ever!   http://pollystreaming.com/South-Park-Season-13-Episode-12-The-F-Word_v5917
  22. 1)  Get rid of that warranty, you don't need it.  2)  Change the air filter and oil reguarly.  3)  Drive the crap out of it. 4)  Don't jump it or enter demolition derbys with it.
  23. Thanks guys, all of those answers make sense, although I think a lot of the ads I see are a little out there.  Surprise, huh?
  24. Not to derail the subject but what is the deal with these people that think their gun is worth more in trade than in cash.  For example they will say "Glock 17 $450 cash or $550 in trade."   Could be possible that I'm missing something here, just doesn't make sense to me.  I figure if my gun is worth $450 then I should be able to trade you even for your $450 gun, not your gun plus $100.

    Papa Johns

I delieverd for the Papa John's in Lebanon years ago.  There was no policy forbiding customers carrying on the store at that time, drivers were forbidden to carry though.  I did anyway, figured losing my pizza delivery job and keeping my life was an okay tradeoff.
