  1. Thanks for the replies everyone.  Seems that the big difference from this informal poll is a hand crafted weapon vs. a mass produced weapon.  Makes sense.  Though I'm sure that I could appreciate a high dollar 1911 I think I'll just keep being happy with my middle of the road Kimber and buy something else (or 2 or 3) to go along with it
  2. Okay I'm prepared to be nailed to the wall for this one but I must know.  Seriously I feel like this is a question that my wife or mother would ask, but here goes.  I love the 1911 platform and one was on my bucket list for years.  About two years ago a Kimber Custom II, which is on Kimber's low end, came my way at the right price and I picked it up.  As a shooter I love this gun.  I have zero complaints about it, it has never failed me.  I see how you could spend a few hundred dollars on cosmetics such as grips, stippling, etc. but I'm talking about function.  I've shoot 1911's in the $500 range and really liked some of them and thought that they would be worth having.  However, this particular gun is one of those, and I think most of you will know what I mean, I just shoot very well with that gun.  It's almost like I can't miss with it.  I'm no championship marksman, just a guy that has been around guns my whole life, I've done a lot of shooting and am probably a better shot than the average Joe, but I'm nothing special.  I had no trouble getting 3" grouping at 25 yards with this gun.  I can't say that for anything else I've shot save for maybe some higher end S&W revolvers.  So what is the difference between a $1000ish dollar 1911 and a $3000 1911?  I do realize that the gun is only going to be as accurate as the person shooting it, I just can't see what I would get for 3X the price that I don't already have.
  3. No big deal.  I wear a beard for several reasons.  My day to day workwear is Carhart's in the winter and jeans and tees in the summer.  On paper I might sound like a lumbersexual, but then you get looking and see that my Carhart's are faded and stained.  My jeans have holes and are stained.  My beard is unkempt 75% of the time.  And my boots have mud on them. If there is still any doubt just get close enough for a whiff.  Unless the lumbersexuals have started dousing themselves in hydraulic fluid, grease, dirt, and diesel fumes it will quickly be obvious that one of them I am not.
  4. I hunt Wilson County and have my whole life. I've seen more bucks than does this year. First time I've ever had that happen. I'd say about a 3:1 ratio. Anyone else had this observation?
  5. The type 94 almost seems backwards to me. Seems it might make more sense to charge a an additional $20 in order to shoot a buck and not charge anything additional to hunt does. I'm betting as many if not more hunters would go for that on the chance that they might have to pass on a nice buck. It would also be more friendly to financially disadvantaged hunters who are just trying to put some meat on the table.
  6. MY wife has a Kindle Fire.  I don't like it because it mandatorily shows you advertisements when you use it.  If I'm needing to access the internet to look something up or whatever I don't want to have to view an advertisement.
  7. Got another right before dark, I'll call that a good day! Plenty of work to do in the morning. Thinking about skipping hunting in the morning and working up these deer. For now I'm about to enjoy some fried tenderloins!
  8. I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand I feel that it is my right to hunt and I shouldn't have to pay a fee to do so. On the other hand I think that the revenue generated by license sales is well spent and I don't have a problem paying them. There have been times in my life when I did hunt without a license to put food on the table. Not proud of it, but it's easy to say just buy the license when you have a pocket full of money.
  9. Half way to the stand this morning I realized I forgot to put my hunting boots on and I was wearing my Merrill shoes. I continued to the stand. I get to the stand and realise that I had forgotten my powder measure back at the truck, so basically I have one shot. At 630 a nice for gives me an easy broad side shot at 75 yards that I manage to cleanly miss. I go back to the truck, reload, put my boots on and head back out. By the way I jumped a nice buck and a doe on the way back go the truck. Get set up again and about 15 minutes later an ugly spike I'd coming in from right about 250 yards away. I set up for a left hand shot and let him close the gap to 20 yards. I fire at him straight on, the primer doesn't pop. I cock it and it goes boom this time. The deer humps up and runs into a duck impoundment right behind me, I'm thinking "crap" then he jumps back out and staggers back to where he came from and crashed out about 300 yards away. First muzzle loader kill and I have my first deer of the season to start stocking the freezer. I'm happy!
  10. Got a second chance and killed a scrub spike. Good story I will share later.
  11. Ever have one of those mornings where you feel like Elmer Fudd? Yep, I'm having one.
  12. Loading the truck up now.  About to head to Wilson County and do a little scouting and decide where I want to hunt in the morning.  Good luck everyone!
  13. Just got off the phone with TWRA, they will not credit earlier bought licenses.  It's difficult sometimes to get the money for a sportsman's license when I start fishing in the spring as that has always been a lean time of year for me financially.  Things changed this year and I will now just be buying all of my licenses at once.  Now I must go bite the bullet and get types 9,11, and 94 and that should get me through the rest of this season.
  14. I have already bought my hunting fishing license this year. I have decided that I want to get a Sportsmans license. Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade to a Sportsmans license and my hunting fishing license purchase be credited towards the Sportsmans license? I would just ask a licensing agent but I have gotten a great deal of false information from them in the past.
  15. Cummins makes an awesome engine. It's those Dodge trucks that fall apart around the drivetrain that leaves something to be desired.
  16. That's the sad part.  This is my company truck and my boss has us change the oil about every 40K.  It absolutely kills me to do that.  Still she burns zero oil.
  17. Meanwhile on our southern boarder...  Ever think that maybe the government has their priorities all messed up?
  18. The best accessory that you can buy for that truck is a bus pass.  Get you a 7.3 and be done with it.  Mine has 410K on it and it's still going strong.
  19. Got sighted in this evening.  Gun shot great!  Can't wait for Saturday morning!
  20. I recently acquired a New England break style .45.  It's been a fiasco getting everything ready.  First I couldn't find ammo for it.  Then I went to sight it in on Saturday and realized that I had left my power at home ,45 minutes away, after selling a buddy half the bottle that I bought.  Was supposed to sight in today but my buddy had to work late, plan is to do it tomorrow.  With any luck I'll have more luck after the season starts then I've had getting ready for the season.
  21. Best of luck finding it.  I've had several fiends have bikes stolen over the years. I've been lucky myself but I'll put a bike in my living room or kitchen before I leave it outside.  Yes, I've done that several times.  Had a buddy a few years ago have a KLX250 stolen from him at his apartment complex as well.  Surprised that bike would be very high on a thieves list.
  22. I've been dreading the change.  It's been kind of nice here lately because it's hardly daylight until 8 am.  That means I don't have to be up at 430 or 500 in order to get to work before daylight.  Now I'll have to get up earlier and come home in the dark most of the time as well.
  23.   I have overheard the sporting goods supervisor recommend the best pellet rifle to a customer to kill the neighbors dog. He also said 1911s are designed to maim kids and he would never order hollow points because they are designed to "kill kids". He also said he would never sell military ammo and I have caught them hiding 5.56 under the counter several times per his orders. He HATES ARs and tries everything, including lying to customers, to try not to sell them. He told me all a person needs is a bolt action rifle. And yes I contacted his boss over all those comments.     Wow, just wow.  There is so much wrong in each of these scenarios.
  24. I've seen 3 cows in the road in the past 2 weeks.  Got me thinking, what is the proper course of action when this happens?  Try to find the farmer?  Call the sheriff?  Shoot it and throw it in the truck?
  25. Although I'm not totally in favor of abortions, the whole "there are tons of people that want children to adopt" thing doesn't hold water.  There are already too many children who don't have families, yet there are people who want to adopt but do not qualify.  A close friend of mine and his wife looked into adoption recently after they found out that they couldn't have children of their own.  Most of these adoption organizations are christian based.  My friend and his wife were denied for the sole reason that he has to work on Sundays and couldn't be in church every Sunday.  Never mind the fact that they would provide a loving family, a financially secure household, and a bright future for a child.  Seems to me that these organizations would be putting children in any home that wanted them unless there was a really good reason not to.  As much as I hate the idea of abortion as birth control we already have too many homeless children.  I think the deal should be that a woman can get an abortion as birth control but she should have to be sterialized afterwards.
