I've never had a pit and never will. I'm not sold either way.  I do have to give some thought to TN-POPO's statement about pits and chows being the vast majority of what he has had to deal with, I'm not qualified to say but maybe that unpredictability/aggressive tendency is just in their blood?  How many times have we heard about a pit that was absolutely sweet mauling a child?  It happens, and not just with pits.    Another thing to consider here, although this topic has not taken this direction yet.  Some jurisdictions have banned certain breeds.  I have a hard time supporting this because it's a slippery slope that has no end until all dogs are banned.  I think that the answer here is responsible pet ownership.  I have no objection if my neighbor wants to own a rabid pitbull with AIDS, so long as he keeps it in his yard and away from my kid, which seems to be a lot to ask these days.     Of all things I have a feist that I can not trust around my 5 year old.  It's never been a problem I just never have them in the same area alone. 

  I think it has a lot to do with the demographic of the owners.  Your "less responsible" dog owners don't own Britanys and labs.

Just finished watching the series "Snake Salvation" on Netflix.  The series centers around two churches, one in LaFollette, TN and one in Middlesboro, KY.  Not saying I believe in what they do, or even support what they do for that matter, just thought that it was neat to see something different that had a local setting.  Check it out if you are so inclined.

I'm local to Foohills WMA but I've never messed with it.  Last I checked it was one of the few WMAs that you could take pigs on.  It is very hard to access from the South side, it's 3+ miles of walking from the parking area until you get to the actual WMA.  The terrain is basically the side of a mountain so it's rough going.  There are usually a couple of trucks around the South side during Archery season but not usually much of anything around after that.  IMO it's a whole lot of rough walking just to get in there, I couldn't imagine hauling game out of there.

I'm sorry to report that my hunt yesterday was fruitless.  I stayed out until I couldn't see to shoot anymore even though I had about 5 minutes of legal light left.  Didn't see so much as a squirrel.  Good news is I thought that I was going to loose that spot after this year as the owner was selling it but they decided to keep it so I will retain one of my good spots next year.  I've been in Wilson County since Thursday and I've seen two deer that whole time and I saw those while driving down the road, they just don't seem to be moving at all around here.  Ironically I saw 4 on the hill across the street from my house in Blount County when I pulled out of my driveway to come here.   So I'm about to head back East and spend the evening giving my deer rifles a thorough cleaning, They've earned it after this season!  Also have a muzzleloader project that I'm rehabbing, can't ever start getting ready for next season too early!  But the next hunting/fishing activity on my calendar will likely be trout in the spring.  I also have a camper project going so I'll have a decent place to stay on my fishing trips this year.    As much as I like to rabbit and squirrel hunt I don't do much of it.  Rabbit hunting over beagles was one of the best hunting experiences that I've ever had, right up there with a good dove shoot!  I just don't know anyone that has beagles anymore and my wife isn't going to let me get any.  I've always enjoyed squirrel hunting but I hate cleaning them and don't enjoy eating them so unless I have someone to give them to when I kill them I really don't go.  

Going to make what is likely my last deer hunt of the season this evening.  If I were in a greater need of meat I would have hunted these past few days but at this point I'm really just trying to get some meat for some other people, my freezer is full!  It just isn't worth sitting out in cold dampness at this point with plenty of meat in the freezer.  So who is going to start the great rabbit/squirrel hunting thread of 2015 once deer season is over?

I think it would be fun to have some kind of monthly theme or challenge with the avatars.  I had an idea for a Christmas one but never got around to it.  Of course it would cause all kinds of cornfusion if we all started chasing our avatars around on a regular basis.  

  The other day I was going somewhere with my wife and that Lee Brice song "Woman like You" came on the radio.  It got to the line "I'd keep my cash in a coffee can," I looked over at my wife and asked her if she knew why he kept his cash in a coffee can, she replied "no, why?"  So I answered her "Because he's single and has cash."  I think she's still mad, and I'm still broke.

One of my cousins in Nashville came down with the flu on the 26th.  Sounds like it is hitting Nashville, might need to get my butt back on the "right" side of the state ASAP! 

  That works great if you are in Metro Nashville.  Everyone should have the number to the local police and sheriffs departments of any town that they frequent in their cell phone.  I'd say I've made more calls to the non emergency numbers than 911.  By all means I have no issue and encourage people to call a non emergency number to report things like this.  I just hate to think that someone could die because 911 was clogged up with an illegal parking call and couldn't deal with a "someone is dying call."  By all means tell dispatch when you call that you think that it's a rolling meth lab.  That should get them there quickly.

  I just need to know what really good sounding restaurant this is you speak of, I get really tired of the Hardee's in Vonore.  

Circa 2008 I tried to walk through TSA security with a pack of razor blades in m pocket.  On days that I was flying I would usually wear shorts, no belt, and sandals.  I remove everything from my pockets and put it in my carry on.  This is the fastest way that I have found to get through the line.  This particular day I was having problems walking through the metal detector.  Couldn't for the life of me figure out what the problem was.  I failed, walked through again, failed, patted myself down, didn't feel anything, failed again, patted myself again and finally felt a vial in the bottom of my cargo pocket.  I had been keeping the blades on me because my employees were not very responsible with them keeping up with them and whatnot and supplies were very hard to come by so I disbursed them as needed.  I panicked when I felt them and just grabbed them and tossed them in the trash.  I did it so quickly the TSA agent didn't know what was going on and asked me what it was, I just replied "razor blades, can't get on an airplane with those" with a big smile.  They let me go without saying anything else, but I was concerned that they could have taken it further.

Someone who doesn't understand what 911 is for obviously.  Illegal parking hardly constitutes a life or death emergency.

Parking in a handicap space? Karma is a mean old lady with a killer memory, they will get theirs.

Haven't been out since Thanksgiving. Just got on stand at a location that hasn't been hunted this year. Not a lot of movement here traditionally but they are heavily pressured on all surrounding land so I thought that I would give it a shot. I'll be danged if I don't have people on 2 sides of me probably within a half mile target shooting like ammo it's free or something. I had a great early season but it seems my luck has hit a wall.

Back when Mosins were cheap and disposable I once doused one in Windex after shooting and stuck it in the safe.  It sat there for a good 6 months with no rust before I took it out again and cleaned it properly.

I wore them for about 5 years and got to where I could no longer wear them.  Went back to glasses until eventually I got Lasik.  Best money I've ever spent on myself.

Won't do any good anyway.  There are tons of these websites.  Can't imagine how much it would cost to get it taken down from all of them, it's really nothing short of extortion, and if we still live in a society where we are innocent until proven guilty then this is a pretty crappy thing to do but I think we all know that there are far to many people out there who have zero morals when it comes to making a buck.

Thanks Red, I did not know that BP and modern powder were measured differently, that explains my discrepancies for sure.

I got bit hard by the muzzle loader bug this past deer season.  A friend was nice enough to loan me a rifle for the season and I had a great time while taking two deer with it.  I recently aquired my own muzzleloader but I haven't bought any ammo for it yet.  The one I borrowed was a .45 and the one I bought was a .50.  I used Powerbelts to hunt with but I was pretty displeased with their performance, specifically they don't seem to expand much.  One deer folded, the other ran 300 yards on a lung shot.  I will try the Hornadys next season.  In the mean time I'd like to do a fair amount of shooting before deer season starts.  I want to get to know this gun well and use it to its potential.  It seems that commercial hunting rounds are $1+ a piece which gets a little pricey when shooting several.  Seems like this might be worth the investment to start casting, especially since I wouldn't mind casting .45 ACP as well.  Besides that what could I shoot economically?  I would think that mini balls won't give me anywhere near the same performance of a conical bullet at any significant distance.    The rifle that I have aquired is what appears to be a CVA Buckhorn.  I realize that there are many variables but what effective range could I expect to see out of this gun?  I've always used loose powder in the past but I'm really wondering if pellets would be more accurate?   It seems that it is hard to get exactly the same measure of powder each time using a powder measure.  In addition to that 100 grains of powder in my measure was only about 84 grains per my scale.    Thanks in advance for replies.  I'm already working to make sure I have a great muzzle loader season next year, just trying to get on the right track.

I've seen this several times today in various places.  I can't believe someone would be irresponsible enough to think that this is a good idea.  Appalling.
