  1.   I'm sure tat the gougers can diversify enough to exploit two calibers.  It was just a couple of years ago that we couldn't readily get handgun ammo in any caliber because of those a-holes.
  2.   Wonder what the trick is for getting them to do it free of charge.  I have a 642 that was my primary carry weapon for years and I have always had issues with the finish on it.  Almost like it's a clear coat that just flakes off.
  3. I cut my teeth in photography by being a photographer on the Dragon for three years. I saw a lot of wild stuff and I literally have hundreds of pictures to prove it but this is one of my favorites from that time in life. This happened to be a personal friend of mine who walked away from this accident completely unharmed. He landed on the side of the road, stood up, and yelled at me "did you get that?" And that is why I'm a firm believer in wearing good gear while riding motorcycles.
  4. I've dropped a carry gun before, I'm not proud of it and I can say the problem was not properly using a holster.  Two things here 1) Carry your firearm properly to where the risk of dropping it is minimized, check and double check that this is done.  2) DO NOT, under any circumstances, like TDR stated, try to catch a falling gun.  Just let it fall, no quality modern gun is going to go off if it hits the ground.  Plus they are carry guns, if it gets a scuff on it, who cares?  I hate to play arm chair quarter back and I only do so in the hopes that I can educate others through mistakes that I have made so that they don't make the same mistake.
  5. That's awesome, I've been wanting to see that for a long time, maybe this year?
  6. I know we have a lot of photographers here on TGO, myself included. There was another thread of this type a while back but it is so old a lot of the links to the photo hosting sites are no longer good so I thought that I would start a new thread so we could share our work with one another. Please contribute your own work. Here are a few of my favorites from the past couple of years. I don't care if you use my pictures for private use, I would appreciate a PM if anyone intends to use them for any other purpose. 7. I have the same sentiments for my 2004 Tundra.  4x4 4 full doors 4.7L V8.  I love everything about the truck except for the fuel consumption.  I can approach around 17MPG on the highway, I usually get around 14 around town and 12.5 is what I average with a loaded utility trailer of lots of 4WD use in the snow.  I have yet to get less than 12.5 MPG.  It's just the price I pay for driving a 4x4 truck with a big cab and a V8.
  8. I would just start out with a single stage press, which is inexpensive and what you really want anyway for your application.  Get yourself a good reloading manual and read it, then read it again.
  9. So that is you that I've been talking to?
  10. Did not know that a Hi Point was used at Columbine.  Doesn't bother me a bit, among other guns I own Glocks, a 1911, and a couple of Mosins.  No telling how many lives have been taken by those models, not to mention the Mosins that I own could have been used to take lives.  It's just a tool though.  Personally I don't get wrapped up in that stuff.   Since you are in Cookeville go down to Bend of the River and talk to Charlie, provided the facility is still open and Charlie is still there.  I haven't been there in years but that is my favorite range of all time, not the fanciest by any means but if you buddy up with Charlie he will do anything in the world to help you.  Back when I lived up there I used to shoot skeet at Bend of the River, it was stress relief.  I was the only one in my skeet group that showed up one cold and snowy morning and Charlie went out and ran the shooting houses for me so I could get my skeet round in.  He also taught me how to zero a scope using about 2 bullets and gave me a wealth of other knowledge.  He's just a retired guy that own a range and has the heart of a teacher.
  11. Have fun in this snow while you can I'm building an ark, looks like I'll need it next week.
  12. I just have to ask what you have heard concerning the history of the Hi Point?
  13. I'll say this about Google...Their customer service is top notch.  I had dealings with them a few months back and placed a phone call, I wasn't placed on hold, and I talked to a really friendly English speaking guy that got my problem solved quickly.  Last time I called Comcast I was put on hold for 17 minutes before I was connected to an Indian that I couldn't understand.
  14. Guys be very careful calling this number from a business phone.  That's how I lost my mall security job.
  15. Your price range opens up a lot of options in the shotgun world.  One not to be passed up is a Remington 870.  Shot guns are a lot of fun to shoot recreationaly and they are hard to beat for a home defense weapon.  To make it even more versatile you can pick up a 18" barrel for well under $100 an have a really nice HD gun or scatter gun.  Also you can shoot, birdshot, which is cheap, buckshot, or slugs.  you can have a lot of fun playing around with buckshot and slugs.  If you decide to go the rifle route really look into that Hi Point Carbine again, I'd suggest in 9mm because that is the caliber that will have the cheapest ammo.  Not saying that is what you should buy, you decide that.  But it seems like it would fit your needs well.  I know Hi Point gets a bad name but I have yet to talk to anyone that had one that didn't like it for what it was, let's face it a cheap gun that has issues is just a piece of junk, while a high dollar gun that has issues "just needs a little tweaking" or so they say anyways.  Good luck in your search.
  16.   So do you want a cheap rifle or not?
  17. Anyone else have any issues with an American?  I am really thinking about picking one up in 243 stainless for deer season this year.  I love my old .270 but I think a stainless light weight bolt gun would be a better work horse for what I demand out of a deer rifle.  I bring this up because besides the OPs issue my dad bought an American in .308, I was sitting beside him when he fired on a deer this past season and the gun did not go off.  Could have been a fluke, could have been an ammo problem and not a gun problem.  I like the way the American handles but I don't want to buy a problem.
  18. If you think that piece of crap is going to protect you from harm you dad gum better be right.
  19. Ive purchased half a dozen or so sets from them.  Prices are hard to beat.  Customer service will not be beat.  Those guys rock!
  20. My response to that would be "I have one I really need to get rid of, I'd take 2k just to make a deal and be done with it." Or "Oh I'm not a felon, what's your non felon price on that?"
  21. How in the heck do you keep up with a pen for four years? I'd have to tie a string to it or it would be lost in 4 minutes.
  22. I refuse to buy from resellers at anything over retail. I don't need to shoot a .22 that much. Don't sell .22 at gouger prices, it's for the children.
  23. I'm somewhat of a fair weather rider. As long ass I'm comfortable I'll go. Good gear is worth it's weight in gold. A couple of January's ago I left out of Knoxville after taking an hour to chip ice off of my bike, and another 20mins to navigate the 50 feet to the road and type to Savannah, Ga, it was 27 when I left and several cars were of the road on I40. It was miserable until I got south of Atlanta, but it was on the high 60s in Savannah.
  24. That's awesome, we need more people doing that.  I wouldn't feel bad about buying more than I needed if I found it and passing it along to TGOers and other good folks for what I gave for it.
  25. Ain't nothing wrong with that.  These guys that buy every last box on the shelf and sell them for three times what they paid for them need a swift kick in the nuts though.
