2015 Spring Turkey Hunting thread - Post your season updates here!
10-Ring replied to whiskey's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Got out and patterned my gun yesterday. I'm glad I did. I'm shooting a Remington 870, 12 Ga, 28" barrel. I feel good with my pattern out to about 25 yards. After that I don't feel comfortable with the shot. I was shooting Winchester 3" No. 5s. Popped my buddies Primos Jelly Head choke in and I would confidently take 30 yard shots with that set up. May go spend the money on one. What kind of range are you guys getting out of your turkey set ups? Unfortunately I'm working 6 days a week right now on 11 hour shifts so what I thought was going to be a turkey season where I was going to get to spend lots of time in the woods has suddenly become a season where I will be lucky to get out a few times, but at least I'll be raking in some decent pay checks. -
I went through it about 2 weeks ago. About the same sized safe. Unfortunately I only moved it to it's temporary home. Thing is I bought the safe in 2011 and have moved it 4 times already including the initial move in. Life keeps happening, which requires me to keep moving. Of course the safe is always the most dreaded thing to move.

If you can't get what you want in the real world go after it in video games. So whose in for sending a Playstation to Washington?

I snagged a couple of boxes of 9mm at Hermitage yesterday, it was the only Perfecta that they had in stock. Fella in front of me bought a case.

Just remember as long as he's paying golf he can't be signing executive orders.

Happens at the airport all of the time.

Need help keeping an eye out for something

I knew a guy who was making Kydex holsters. What he would do is make you one a a discounted price if you let him use your gun so that he could make a pattern. I'm not positive that it is doable to make a leather holster off of a pattern without the gun. Also may run into the legalities of holding a gun overnight in the course of a business. Depending on how serious of a business he is looking to get into this may or may not work for him. Another option may be airsoft guns as many are exact replicas. -
The $9 shipping charge kills it for me. $36 a brick for thunderbolt just isn't worth it or me. Thanks for passing that along though. Still in stock at 5:40 am CST.

Mine does not interfere in the least, I can not see any helmet when looking to the side. I have worn helmets that I can not say that about though.
-
The whole full face helmets decrease peripheral vision thing doesn't hold water, just try one on. The full faces made in the 70's and 80's may not have had as big as a field of vision but a well fitted modern helmet will not decrease your peripheral vision at all.

Turned over 100,000 miles! Unfortunately, I was only responsible for about the last 20K. 1991 Honda ST1100. Left the house on Saturday and put on right at 1,200 miles before returning today. It's due for a clutch but besides that I would ride her anywhere. I do have to say the best part about owning a 24 year old bike with 100K on it is I never stay in a motel on the road and wonder if she'll be there the next morning. Shot after I got home and wiped her down.

My Mark III and IV 1Ds run around $500, your 6D probably isn't that much. I don't plan on doing any more motorsports work so the shutter that I have will probably last me years now. I'd say most people would never wear one out even if they are shutter happy but I was shooting 5-10K 5 days per week and every now and then I'd have a day upwards of 20K, that adds up. Probably shot more in a day back then than I do in several years now.
-
As someone who has worn out a few shutters I'll tell you guys that you have nothing to worry about. My shutter is rated at 360K and I usually get between 900K and 1.2M before it goes. 4,000 a month is nothing.

You got out off the situation without using a gun, what better ending could you have had? No reason to ever get put of the vehicle and no reason that a gun should be involved unless you are trapped in traffic or something and the aggressor has exited his vehicle and it's coming towards you. Someone tailing you is hardly a reason to be in fear of your life, just drive towards the police station.

Black powder, swabbing the barrel between shots?
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I'm not sure but I think this barrel may be bad. It's pretty tough to get my bullet started but once I get down the first six inches or so it goes down almost effortlessly until about the last six inches then it gets tight again. Also I'm not familiar with lubing the barrel before loading so that may be an issue. Can someone school me on that right quick? -
Shooting in low light is always tricky. What ISO numbers were you hitting. I've gotten to spend some time with the 1DX and was amazed at its capabilities, I've run 25,600 without distortion with that camera. It was amazing!

I'm an avid motorcyclist, I've ridden through a lot of states, and I've seen a lot of crashes. I've had people die in front of me multiple times. I've seen brain matter smeared across the asphalt (result of the noon DOT approved "brain bucket"). Because of the things I've seen I always wear a helmet and always will. It's something I feel strongly about. I'm not as ATGATT as I should be but a helmet is not negotiable with me. A couple of my thoughts on the matter. If you don't think you need a helmet then you are probably right. $50 helmets are great for $50 heads. Freedumb isn't free. I do support the right to choose though, as was stated previously it's a little chlorine for the gene pool, almost like making stupid people wear a sign that says "I'm stupid" no need to ask that guy any questions...

At the risk of sounding like a hippie, I don't like to go to gun shows because of all of the negligent discharges over the past few years. Although I really think that since of then are the work of the antis.

No and yes.

It's all fun and games until some jackass tries to open carry it and then some other jackass will pass a law.

Oppsy Daisy, accidently stripped my bluing, what now?
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Got the old smokepole out today. I'm getting a 4" group at 50 yards but that was after a half a dozen shots and I forgot my patches so I was unable to swab the barrel so accuracy may improve some. My engine paint did not hold up well, though it did look good until today. Quite a bit of it fell off when I had it leaned up against the workbench cleaning it and Hoppes #9 took a little off as well though I tried my best not to let it get in contact with the paint. I may just give it touch up squirts as needed, but I'm really wanting to try this method, I just need to find something big enough to boil water in and hold the barrel. -
I don't really despise any household chores. Though there are some that I dislike more than others. Just like JWC I really don't like painting ceilings. And I don't really mind painting during the winter when I can't be outside but I'm going to do my best to not be stuck inside painting during the summer. I love to mow, especially if the lawn mower has cup holders. Don't like trimming that much though (trimmers don't have cup holders.) I find flooring and tile work satisfying because I get to see something that I accomplish. I guess my least favorite would be the dishes but I've been known to do dishes at a friends house when they are stacked up just because I can't stand a sink full of dirty dishes.

I'm just gonna put this right here... dang, I'm hungry!!!

Can anyone comment on the levels of heat? I like hot but I don't like it when it's just pure hot with no flavor for the sake of burning you. I find at most places the hottest offering really isn't good food it's just so hot that you can't taste anything, you finish it in misery and regret it more the next morning. I remember a bar when I was in college that had a wing sauce like that, I swear that they used OC spray to flavor the wings. It was a miserable heat, it would make your whole face feel like it was on fire and then it would go numb I remember my lips swelling up once from it. -

Man that looks delicious. I'm ashamed to say as a Nashville area native that I've never had hot chicken. But... IMO this hot chicken fad is somewhat new. I remember Princes but it seems that now Nashville is famous for hot chicken. Now that I'm living here again I'm really going to have to go get some! -
I can't give you the answer that you are looking for but I can tell you that the radiators that come from the big auto parts stores are junk and are poorly made. Bite the bullet and go to NAPA and just get whatever they sell.
