Gun's loaded. Fanny pack (yup I carry a fanny pack hunting) checked and double checked for powder, primer, boolits, tools, quick loaders, powder measure, and anything I may need. Taking my dad out on his first muzzleloading hunt. Just can't get to sleep.

Warning shot fired after road rage incident
10-Ring replied to Hershmeister's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This happened a few hundred yards from my house. I'm not usually an advocate of warning shots but everyone went home or to jail unharmed so I guess all is good. Oh yeah, and I'm really getting tired of people from places like Michigan that want to come here and cause all sorts of trouble. -
I have to remember the 5th of November because it's my anniversary.

Smoked sausage and other things to do with deer.
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I'm going to give this a try I have two questions. 1) Do you mix in any pork or other fat? 2) It sounds like once you roll it up in the wax paper you leave it in the wax paper until it is consumed, is this correct? -
I would absolutely go to court. Simply because that's the only way that you are going to get driving school. If your record is clean they are going to send you to driving school and dismiss the ticket more than likely. If you pay the ticket it is going to stay on your record and possibly make your insurance rate go up. Like yourself, I have a clean record, my rate came down substantially when that last booboo came off my record.

I'm always looking for more ways to eat deer. I'm blessed with good land to hunt and the land owner wants me to take out as many as possible as they are interfering with his farming. I keep 3 families comprised of about 10 people fed throughout the year plus I give some meat away to other friends here and there. Through the years I've learned what my family will and will not use, of course the backstrips and tenderloins, then we cut a few roasts from the hind quarters and pretty much grind the rest, we are always looking for new things to do with ground deer. I sampled some smoked summer sausage last year and really liked it so I decided that I want to make some different kinds of sausages this year. I want to make a cheddar jalapeno summer sausage, some Italian sausage and maybe some breakfast sausage. That would be about 75 pounds. I have a stuffer and have been looking at seasonings and casings at Gander Mountain. I'm looking for tips on making sausage as I've never done it before. I've read to add 20% pork fat. Should I try to make it all at once? Any other good ideas with what to do with deer meat?

Just Inherited Lots of New Firearms - Need Help Appraising
10-Ring replied to Hammer285's topic in Show and Tell
I'm sorry for your loss but you may be in luck I think there are more than 2 gems here. -Doesn't look like the 5100 is in great shape I would expect it to bring around $250 in current condition, possibly a little more if you clean it up. -That 03A3 is a Remington 1903 I'm no expert on the different nomenclatures of 1903s, you need to have someone that is an expert on them take a look at it so you know exactly what it is, it wouldn't surprise me if that gun brings $1000 from what I see on GB. -That DM 101 I think should bring around $250. There are two on GB that are in better shape for $350 but there are no bidders. -If that Sport King is as clean as it looks it may bring around $400, these are superb shooters. -Your 1911 could bring better than $2000 that's another one you need to get a professional opinion of, I'm just a guy on the internet. -Lastly, your 15-4, I think you will see $400-500 out of it. Please don't rely on anything I've said, I'm shooting out these prices based on what I've seen and a little help from GB, I'm just trying to give you an idea of what they may bring. -
It certainly takes a little common sense to use them. Basically it is Corps of Engineers land where I hunt. The Corp has 5 feet above the normal pool of the lake, naturally most of the huntable land is flat and low lying. All of it that I have explored which is a pretty good bit but still not a significant portion is marked very well with a boundary marker at least every 100 yards, sometimes closer.

Will it be called "Nash Angeles" or "San Franville"??
10-Ring replied to WindHawk's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I grew up in Mt. Juliet and spent a lot of time in Lebanon with my grand parents. I've lived elsewhere since 2004 and moved back to Mt. Juliet this summer. Well, Lebanon isn't the bigger of the two towns anymore and the whole county has been saturated with tons of people moving in from other places. Unfortunatley it seems that most of them are yuppie liberals that didn't like it where they lived and want to make our home exactly like where they came from. Mt. Juliet was more or less an agricultural community when I was growing up but now there are very few farms left. We traded all of our farms for yuppie housing, if that's not depressing I don't know what is. I did see a tractor on Mt. Juliet road between Walmart and Providence during rush hour, made me laugh when I thought about how many of those yuppies must be mad about being stuck behind a tractor. -

Will it be called "Nash Angeles" or "San Franville"??
10-Ring replied to WindHawk's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
As mayor I don't think she has a lot of swing. She's dangerous and should be watched though. I hate that Nashville has grown the way it has and has been taken over by a bunch of rude liberals with out of state plates, most from the North. It all started when the Titans got here and it's gone downhill every since. Us natives are outnumbered by a bunch of Yankee liberals that want us to do their way, yeah, I'm a little bitter about it, sorry for the rant. Oh yeah I also blame the sharp rise of housing cost on them as well. -
Will his head explode if I tell him that I send money to the NRA?

Carry Permit while on Probation
10-Ring replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
This is something that the firearms community needs to start talking about and fighting against. I hate to hijack a thread but this needs to be addressed. How many alcoholics out there already have HCPs? I know of a few personally. So a person can get 2 DUIs before the HCP is revoked but if they realize that they have a problem and want to get help then their ability to obtain a HCP is gone for 10 years? How many members of Congress have had 2 DUIs in the past 5 years and/or went though substance abuse treatment in the past 10 years? I know of a few gun owners who refuse to get mental health assistance even though they admit that they would like to because they don't want to have their gun rights trampled on because they saw a mental health professional and/or were prescribed certain drugs. Personally I see a bigger move in the future to disqualify gun ownership because of the use of prescribed drugs. HIPPA does what? -
That was strange... squib like load
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
There were a few loose primers in there I think they were all inserted into disks. Found the following advice in another thread, I'll credit 300winmag. So, guess I'll have to make another range trip this week... -
That was strange... squib like load
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I thought that I had read that somewhere at some point but didn't see anything on the label about it. What kind of primers should I be looking for? Any chance a more powerful primer could cause my zero to change at all? -
Carry Permit while on Probation
10-Ring replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I knew a guy that had a HCP and got a possession of marijuana charge, the judge took his permit from him. After he was off probation the judge gave it back. That would make me think he couldn't get one while on probation but I'm making an assumption here and could be wrong. -
I was checking my new black powder gun today and testing out some new powder (Blackhorn 209.) Rifle is a Knight .45 DISC. Snapped a couple of 209s then loaded up 90 grains of Blackhorn and a 195 grain Powerbelt. Just in case it matters I'm using 777 primers. I fired and it sounded like the primer didn't ignite the powder but it looked like a bullet hit the water in the pond 20 yards behind the backstop, which is really odd since I'm shooting down into the back stop and I'd be aiming probably 5 feet over my target to hit the water, and really it could have been a limb falling in the water or a fish surfacing at just the right time. Still not convinced that the gun had actually discharged I waited a few minutes and checked it with the ram rod, still being new to the gun I went ahead and and pulled the breech plug and the powder and projectile were in fact gone. The barrel was filthy and I think I put a thick coating of bore butter in it before storing it after I used it last time so maybe that fouled the powder? Yeah, I know I should have remembered to clean it first. While I had the breech plug out I cleaned the barrel and loaded back up. The next shot was dead on center and the next two were 1/2" low and left, touching each other. I just can't figure out why that first shot made no noise, could the primer alone have pushed the load out of the barrel? I've had primers fail to ignite the powder plenty of times but they have never cleared the load. Plus there was no smoke, though the Blackhorn doesn't seem to smoke nearly as much as Pyrodex anyway. I also can't figure out why the first shot was center and the other two were off center yet well grouped. Someday's these blackpowder guns frustrate the crap out of me.

What are TGOers putting on their Christmas list this year?
10-Ring replied to Spots's topic in General Chat
I just want a new president, who isn't a democrat. -
I've bought at least 1/2 a dozen sets of tires from them, always top notch service. My old boss became a customer when I had a flat on my company truck and they fixed it for free, he bought a $1200 set of tires for that truck from them a couple of months later. Plus the one in Mt. Juliet is across the street from Gander Mountain which is more or less my second home.

Confirmed, 300 Blackout WILL run on black powder

This is good to know but I'd be curious as to how long it will run and how long it will shoot accurately. -
Has anyone seen a "living" armadillo in Tennessee?
10-Ring replied to K191145's topic in General Chat
I'm of the opinion that they don't actually live here but people from Arkansas drop them off on the shoulder of the road while passing through. -
I think that this is an issue that needs to be discussed. We walk a fine line between exercising our rights and giving hard working cops a hard time. There is a time and place to do both. Ultimately in both of these situations following the police officers directions would have kept both of the subjects alive, and cooperation would have likely resulted in a minor offense. IF a person decides to inform an officer of their rights they had better be on top of their game when they do, as mentioned in the video the kid in the first video is required to show his license. Another good idea when inserting your rights is to remain calm no matter what, this can and should be done while being respectful of the officer. Yet an even better idea if you have a complaint about the way an officer is treating you would be to request the presence of the shift lieutenant. If that doesn't yield the desired results a formal complaint and a lawyer may be in order. I usually have a tendency to side with cops in these situations. IMO, however, the cop in the second video was shooting out of anger and not self defense. Maybe it's just the camera angle but it really does look like the officer was out of harms way when he fired. Both of these kids decided to play stupid games and they both won the grand prize. A wise man once told me "it's not about who's right, it's about who's left" I think that applies here. Oh yeah, and I thought they said that no one has ever died from marijuana???
