Long Island DA bans prosecutors from owning guns.
10-Ring replied to 94user's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I believe that they already have though I could be mistaken. Seems it was a hospital or some other medical entity in the Chattanooga area. I'm not a tobacco user but I fully support someone else's right to use tobacco so long as I'm not inhaling their smoke or getting spit on. -
Very frustrating. If the name of the game were choking we would be national champs.

I saw tons of deer today driving out to the boat after work and from the boat to home.

That's just un American.

Good luck everyone! I had too much going on this summer to get any archery practice in so I'm sitting out archery season, it just wouldn't be fair to the deer to go out without proper practice. I will be hunting black powder though and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm still getting my gun dialed in just the way I want it but I'll be ready before the season starts. I'll be watching this thread tomorrow at work, hope to see some pictures.

Any classes on building your own AR15's?
10-Ring replied to mattlew62's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Step 1: Buy a stripped lower receiver, a mag block, and a rifle kit from Palmetto State Armory (they have one right now for $299) you will also need magazines and an optic or iron sites. This is EVERYTHING you will need to complete this gun, the only other needed item is ammo. Step 2: After you have all of these items search Youtube for videos about assembling an Ar-15, trust me there are plenty. Tool wise you will need a punch set, some small needle nose pliers, Allen wrenches, and a vise. -
Looks like a job for zebra print or the Hello Kitty pattern, I'd go with zebra print as the Hello Kitty stuff is outrageously expensive.

Duct tape, you need duct tape.

If I were the buyer in the transaction that you describe I would expect to pay $40 give or take less than I would otherwise expect to pay for that particular gun due to the background check and transfer fee that I would have to pay. A bill of sale, verification or residency and asking the buyer if they are legally able to posess a firearm (get that in writing if you want) should cover issues that you may encounter. Then again I'd probably be more willing to go through the transfer process than give a stranger that much personal info. As a buyer I'd rather not go through any paperwork that I don't have to.

That sucks. I already have that T-shirt though. Let me ask you, how many bikes have ridden by you and either waved and not stopped, or not even bothered waving for that matter? I was stuck on the side of I-81 for about 2 hours last May with a blown out rear tire and literally dozens of bikes passed me and not a single one stopped to offer help. I think it was even more insulting when they waved and didn't stop. The "brotherhood" ain't what it used to be, used to if you saw a bike stranded, you stopped and helped, period. My personal opinon is that East Tennessee is a major motorcycle destination and the tourists don't want to interupt their vacation by stopping to help another biker, that and too many self centered A-hole professionals RUBS (rich urban bikers) are out there.

I guess this has been in the works for a while. I know a guy that took a job with Remington in Alabama several months ago as an engineer.

There is a season and poaching is taken very seriously.

I broke down and bought myself a new Minn Kota trolling motor for my boat last week. It replaced a Motorguide that came with the boat and had certainly seen better days. I did some research before my purchase and found people had a lot of bad things to say about each brand and not a whole lot of good things to say about either one as well. It seems that Minn Kota and Motorguide are the two big players in the trolling motor game so I went with the Minn Kota because it was a little less expensive and I've had decent luck with them before, though it's been a while and things may have changed. So I mount up the new motor and commence a weekend of fishing. For those familiar with the hand controlled Minn Kotas many, including mine have a handle that tilts. This was an important feature to me because I keep it tilted all of the way up and use a handle extension because I prefer o stand when I fish. Right off the bat I notice that the motor is extremely weak in reverse and not that impressive in forward, though every now and then it seems to hit "high" gear but not consistently. It doesn't always turn off when the handle is in the off position either. So this afternoon I call Minn Kota customer service, I'm told that this is a known problem when the handle is tilted all the way up. WTH? What kind of company puts a feature on a product and then lets it out the door knowing that something simple for them to fix, yet complicated for the customer to fix doesn't work as it should? Seeing as I've already thrown the packaging away I don't see returning it as an option, however I don't believe that I will be buying any of their products in the future. Just thought I'd share to keep any of you guys from running into the same problem.

Go to a credit union, get a loan with a lower interest rate than what you have now. Screw a credit card, screw a credit rating. Need a house? Show up with a 20% down payment and a reference from your landlord about how you pay your rent on time every month and you will get approved for a house. The typical 1% "reward" you get for using a credit card just isn't worth it to me. Not that I know anything I'm just a 30 something with a house that does have some mortgage on it, but I have a car, truck, boat and a couple of motorcycles all of which are paid for. The only payment I have each month is my mortgage, it's amazing how much further my money goes now.

KFC just plain sucks. The last time I ate there was after a morning deer hunt that lasted until well after dark and involved a long walk across a mountain. All I had to eat that day was a Snickers bar really that morning. Needless to say I was starving and would have eaten about anything at that point. After all that I still thought that it was horrible food. I rank KFC below Churches, whose demographic is poor people that live in the ghetto.

I understand that sentiment. Particularly in regards to religion there are a few around here that like to belittle others for what they believe. I don't think think it gets much lower than disrespecting someone for their religious views.

Man, you ask everyone to pay nice and this is what you get...

best place to have rifles cleaned
10-Ring replied to ironsniper1's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
You could just buy another Mosin for what you will pay to have them clean it. -
Legally you can't cross a boats wake within 100 yards of the boat.

That's asinine, I could perhaps see some reasoning in not allowing kids to have live ammunition at school but shell casings? They are completely harmless. I think when I was in school back in the 90's it would have probably been confiscated and the student sent back to class. And we all had inert ammo key chains. Of course those of you old enough to remember when it was okay to leave your deer rifle or shortgun in your gun rack at school really had it made plus you guys never even shot a school up.

Clark Dixon of "The Syndicate" charged with poaching
10-Ring replied to monkeylizard's topic in Hunting and Fishing
It seems to be the norm that these people that do tv shows don't follow the rules. I hope the book is thrown at them. -
Nothing makes me grumpy like hearing how they did it somewhere else.

I bite my tongue on a daily basis here and will do my best to continue to do so.

The fishing dynamics have changed on OldHickory Lake
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Okay, I just went back and looked, it does specify alligator gar, so I suppose short nosed gar are fine to take.
