  1. I was intrigued and as a Marlin nut I couldn't help but go down the rabbit hole. The Royal Canadians were produced in 1962 and 1963. They were produced in 35 Rem and 30-30. Multiple online sources substantiate the 270(35)/271(30-30) production numbers. Apparently, the Canadian government took offense to Marlin using the maple leaf without permission and sales ceased in Canada, the remainder were sold in the US. Marlin offered carved stocks as well, if yours is carved it may bring a premium. I don't see much collector value because of the Royal Canadian designation. However, vintage Marlins in and of themselves are hot right now. The problem is you have to find a buyer who sees value in the RC designation, if you stumble across a misplaced Canadian who is a Marlin nut you may get a premium for this rifle, but to a guy like me the RC designation adds no value and likely detracts value slightly. I find that Marlin values are high locally. Kind of strange but, I see stuff on here sell quickly priced substantially higher than similar Gun Broker listings, plus GB is going to add shipping, background, and FFL. If it were mine, considering the like new condition and making the assumption the you don't have the original box, I'd start at $900 if it's a 35, and $800 for a 30/30 and see if you get any bites.
  2. Every generation has it's share of people who don't have a clue. We can blame the faults of this generation on the generation that raised them.
  3. Tempted on the 9
  4. Zippos are cool, but not worth their weight when you really need a fire. Same for flint and steel, it's cool, but takes up space and weight. 2 Bic lighters (just for redundancy) and you have a small and light weight reliable fire source. I've tried for years to add one to my pocket for EDC. I don't smoke and seldom actually need a lighter, so it always finds its way out of my pocket. I have made it a point to put 2 Bics in my boat, all of my vehicles, and my ATVs.
  5. More often than not in the world we live in.
  6. Pretty sure my face looks like this. Just had the TV on in the garage and it happened to be on.
  7. Man I wish someone would steal mine.
  8. That snail is carrying the ATF's mail.
  9. GunBroker is a great indicator of what a gun will actually bring.
  10. There was a run of 15-22s several years ago that had a defect that allowed them to discharge when out of battery. The ban is likely connected to that. Appleseed banned them for that reason.
  11. I think Maverick is the best thing going on the cheap side right now. I have a 88 Security. Despite it probably being one of the cheapest shotguns I own I trust it. I've fired it a lot. It's seen a ton of truck miles and several hundred trail miles via ATV and SXS. What it hasn't seen is a lick of maintenance outside of wiping mud of it. It's never failed to go boom. If I lost it today I'd buy another tomorrow.
  12. I've seen several who claim to be "knife makers" that are just reselling Pakistani knives. Years ago there was such a fella on Facebook. I reversed searched the images in his ads and called him out in a group. He blocked me. Actually running a Google image search of some of these images yields some interesting results. I've never heard of John Knives, but I would say he's a fraud.
  13. I get off my ass and go work outside and BAM, I miss out.
  14. Creating AI "art" with my 4 year old. The longer you look the more questions you will have.
  15. I do not have one lying around but man, flatbeds are the way to go. So much more versatile than a traditional bed. I had a F250 with a toolbox under the bed on each side. Made removable bedsides and tailgate. IIRC the bed was 7 feet wide, room for all kinds of stuff. I got a Tundra afterwards and at the time the only flatbeds being offered were aluminum and cost $10k+. If I ever get rear-ended I may build one myself.
  16. Do you really want to go down the slippery slope of how much acreage is required to be able to shoot on it? I have a range on 1.5 acres with a solid backstop that is totally safe. I had a friend that had 20 acres that was completely flat and not safe to shoot on. In my opinion the acerage involved is irrelevant. What is relevant is whether or not bullets are leaving the property. It seems that isn't the case here, but we are only hearing one side of the story. Also, my interpretation of what he said was that he was in the county and there were no nose ordinances.
  17. Shy of having a bunch of money there isn't a good option for dove. The problem with public shoots is the public is there and early September is too damn hot to wear a ballistic vest, which is a necessity on a public shoot. I'm blessed to get invites to some private shoots and still typically pay between $100-200 to attend each one. As for quail and pheasant, outside of a private reserve you are going to be sol. Quail are near an endangered species around here. I've probably jumped a half dozen covey in 30+ years of stomping through the woods. Never seen a wild pheasant.
  18. Had to look them up. I send my condolences. Personally, I would wear something that would get me kicked out.
  19. Gotcha, I still stirred the pot though.
  20. I'd say so, they don't call it the Lord's Caliber for nothing. I own something in every popular handgun caliber (.40 included) and don't hold it against anyone what they choose to carry. I don't care for 40 myself but if others want to carry it that doesn't matter to me. It's just a whole lot of fun to stir the pot from time to time.
  21. And for just $120 dollars you can replace the barrel and shoot a respectable caliber.
  22. I usually don't give two s about celebrities, dead or alive, but this one stings.
  23. I'll echo the others that have mentioned Taurus. I used to be 100% a Taurus hater. I though they have upped their game recently and I would consider them to be one of the best values out their right now. My TX22 is my favorite plinker out of the half dozen or so 22 pistols I own. I much prefer it over a couple of Ruger Mark series pistols I own, and others. I bought a Tracker in 44 mag several months ago and have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. At half the price of a comparable S&W if you are buying it to use there is literally no advantage in buying a Smith. Sure the Smith will retain it's value better, but I bought this one to drag through the woods. Heck, slightly related to this topic, I've made a shift in recent years on considerations for woods guns. What used to be a go to say a Marlin 30-30, is now a high dollar gun that I don't want to beat up.
