  1. Not since I got hooked on catching big catfish and rock bass, everything else is just bait now.
  2. I had one stolen years ago. It showed up three years later. They do come back occasionally.
  3. This is a little different but I use a large food processor. I think it's a 13 cup capacity but wouldn't swear to it. Cost about $50 I've been using it for the years and it's still going strong. I grind about 5-7 deer each year. Mostly just the hind quarters.
  4. That is the coolest thing I have seen this month!
  5. Between the terrorists shooting up the churches and and bubbas trying to protect the churches, and our church, that seems that the best thing to do is pray that no one shoots up our church, I've sadly made the decision to lay out of church for a while.
  6. My friend dropped a doe about 2 minutes before this one came in. Then 3 spikes came in and hung out for about an hour. Would have stayed longer but with the high temps we wanted to get that meat on ice. Lots of fun watching the spikes play after a successful hunt.
  7. I dropped a nice buck a few minutes ago. Waiting to see if a doe comes through.
  8. I'm on the ground today, thank goodness! I have a really comfy lawn chair, I've honestly killed more deer sitting in a lawn chair than a tree stand. Each have their place.
  9. 62 degrees and 13 mile an hour winds, if I had a lick of sense I would be headed back to bed right now.
  10. I suspect that you are correct that a lot of little bucks are being checked as does, and a lot of people are using centerfires right now. I don't know if going back to the old way would help or not, I'm thinking those people probably just wouldn't check them at all. I sure do like the convenience of being able to check them on my phone, but I see it doors open up opportunity for dishonesty.
  11. I finally connected. That big ole doe stepped out at 3:01. The Hornady FPB 300 grain .50 did remarkable. The deer was dead before it hit the ground at 70 yards. I had been running powerbelts in my .45 and did not like them at all. Of the last 5 deer i shot with that load 4 ran over 100 yards. I got this CVA Wolf .50 and really like it. Trying to find the right load to make my .45 a 200 yard gun.
  12. Wow, just after my last post I see the silhouette of a deer in some heavy brush to my left. I bleat and it shows itself at 20 yards giving me a nice neck shot. 6 pointer I haven't seen before. Spread right inside of the ears, and a pretty rack. I decided to let him walk. First deer I've had the chance to pull the trigger on in three solid days of hunting.
  13. I had the same mentality, eventually I had to switch to "if he dies it won't be because I killed him." I know a lot of people around here shoot whatever, and my camera footage shows it. I'm on 42 acres in Wilson County surrounded by farms and Corp of Engineer land. Ran cameras all summer, I have two 4 pointers and two spikes running around here, a couple of lone does, and a bunch of fawns. There is a bruiser I've seen across the road and I found I couple big rubs in a thicket. I'll leave the little ones alone and maybe they will stay here where they are safe for now.
  14. That's a good looking deer Greg, congratulations! It was windy here this morning and I didn't wear enough clothes, went in about 8:30 without seeing anything. Saw a nice doe on the way to my stand this afternoon while on the four wheeler. Didn't spook it, she just eased I along, hopefully we'll reconnect before dark.
  15. My gun rights are not up for negotiation. We already have enough gun laws that don't work, no need to pass more. There are done people out there who will not rest until no private citizen is allowed to have a gun. I don't care to bend to their wishes. Gun control is a low hanging fruit and the fruit is rotten. Getting rid of guns will not get rid of evil, and that is the ultimate goal of these people.
  16. Having the worst ml session in years. Hunted all day the past few days. Had one wind me yesterday morning and three wind me this morning. Might be time go wash my clothes lol.
  17. I'm not willing to negotiate with liberals.
  18. Haven't spent a whole lot of time in West TN but I did hunt for a couple years in far West Tn. IME the people in West TN are very friendly. I lived in East TN for years, there are some legit hillbillies there, as in the government displaced their families when GSMNP was created in the 1930s, and they are still pissed off about it. Moonshine making, marijuana growing, poaching, trespasser shooting hillbillies. They don't want anything to do with anyone, you certainly don't want anything to do with them. All of East TN isn't that way, but the deeper you get into the mountains the more it tends to be this way. Also, in case you don't know, west, middle, and east TN are distinctly different terrains.
  19. You will be hard pressed to find what you are looking for in that price range most anywhere in this state. You aren't going to find a track of land line that in East TN and not have hillbillies for neighbors. And they don't like outsiders, and by outsiders I mean anyone that did not grow up right there. $300k in middle TN week get you a quarter acre and a 3 bed 2 bath. West TN may be your best bet, but you won't be close to anything.
  20. I've been sitting in my blind for 30 minutes, it's hot! Thinking I'll call it, not because I don't think I can get anything necessarily, but because I don't want to process one in this heat. I'm working up some loads in my .45 muzzleloader using .357 horny XTPs. May go work on that.
  21. All of my stuff is ready to go. I only have tomorrow morning to hunt this weekend, going to try to drag one in anyway.
  22. I agree for the most part. I hunt with a .270 more than anything else but leave it at home when I'm likely to take shots at less than 50 yards. IME the ammo that I use does not perform well at close range, but works great out past 50 yards or so. Sight the .270 in at 200 and the crosshairss should give you a dead deer 0-300 yards.
  23. I have as there are a couple of stands that I hunt that I have a very short (less than 20 yard) shot. I have not actually taken a deer with a shotgun though. It seems like it's a great option at short ranges.
