  1. The pro gun community is too divided. Every gun rights event that I've attended has been shadowed by idiots doing stupid things, such as opening carrying rifles or militias turning the event into a membership drive. Hickok recently posted about Confederate flags being displayed at an event. I'm a supporter of the Confederate flag but a gun rights event isn't the place for it. I'm hesitant to attend such events because consistently something happens that gets the media's attention, and it's never anything good. These events are almost an anti gunners dream. From their side, what more do they need than people open carrying AR-15s, talking about militias, carrying handguns in cheap holsters, and waving around Confederate flags to make our entire side look like a bunch of Fudd idiots? I apologize, as I don't believe this post contributes positively to answer the question "What am I doing?" However, there are reasons that I'm hesitant to do anything other than keep my Representatives posted on how to best represent me.
  2. Never in my lifetime do I recall so many people who formally had a position of some sort, who believe that their opinion is relevant. If Steven's wanted his opinion to matter he shouldn't have retired, thank God he did.
  3. There is a lot of local outrage from teachers on this topic. It boils down to them being anti gun, but I've heard several threaten to quit their jobs of teachers are allowed to be armed. Fine with me, the school system was looking for teachers when those were found. Frankly, I don't care for their attitudes regarding the situation.
  4. Channing Wilson, think DAC. Wish he head more material. https://youtu.be/ilV01MW5dwA
  5. I could be wrong here, but can a business prohibit someone from doing something if they are otherwise qualified? Can a bar come out and say "we don't think people should be allowed to buy beer until they are 40, so you have to be 40 to drink here" would that be okay, or is that age discrimination?
  6. I've been using a Lowrance Hook 3. It's about as cheap as they come. It's down scan only. I use it to know the depth, as well as find structure, holes, and drop offs. I recommend it if you are looking for a basic unit. The screen is a little small, but I can use the big depth numbers and spin it 180 degrees and see it from the front of my pontoon boat, it's mounted on the console. It was about $100, the Helix 4, is in your price range as well, and the Helix 5 is barely out off it.
  7. As a former Walmart loss prevention associate, there it's no way I'd confront him. That $12 just isn't enough to confront armed people while being unarmed. It's been 8 years but back then it was against company policy to engage with a shoplifter who was known to be armed. Additionally, it's against the Walmart creed to be on the sales floor in the vicinity of customers.
  8. I don't like talking to people on the phone. A few quick emails or texts then meet up somewhere that's not out off my way if I'm selling. If I'm buying I usually go towards the seller. I had a boat motor for sale a couple of years ago that needed work. I had it on CL and wound up having very lengthy conversations with at least 3 different individuals. Asking questions about the motor was fine, but 2 of them we're wanting to work out trades, but never could seem to meet up. One of them strung me along for 2 months and another for over a month. I think some people just like to waste other people's time. Of course I have a knack for winding up with things that are really hard to sell.
  9. I have one that is at the RIA facility now because it won't feed anything except FMJ. IMO the finish on them is of poor quality and that really need a trigger upgrade. Good for the money if you can get it to run right.
  10. Check out Alabama, and Georgia. Tennessee makes it too dang difficult to hunt pigs on a casual basis. You have to be put on a list as a designee to hunt them on private property. Only 10 people can be listed per property per year. I have a couple of friends who are on leases as designees, but they go a couple of weekends per month year round, but with what they pay for the lease they kind of need to.
  11. I apologize if this has been previously posted, I didn't find it when I searched. I'm speechless at the stupidity of this. Just not worth the risk to me. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/turkey-hunting-410-revolver-yep-done/
  12. Do yourself a favor and stay away from those Hatfields. They are junk. Kid I take hunting got one and I can't say enough bad things about it. Much better off to find an old used single. Oh and .410 runs about $12/box.
  13. You're probably right. This forum seems to be made up of people that have better than average knowledge of the issues. Yet half of the people here choose to patronize those anti 2A businesses. If we can't even get the gun community on board with a boycott there is no chance that we will ever have an impact.
  14. I went to Imgur after PB began their nonsense. Been happy with it. From my phone it's much easier than PB because I don't have to upload to their website before posting.
  15. I can make a recommendation about what I don't want to hear... Politics I realize politics are important in the gun world, but it feels like here lately the two go hand in hand all of the time. I just want to hear about guns, stories about guns, project guns (not Hi Points, lol), improving your guns, improving yourself as a shooter, etc.
  16. Looking for recommendations for a shotgun. I'm not an avid small game hunter but I enjoy getting out and knocking around the woods occasionally after deer season is over. I've been using the same 870 for almost 25 years. It's a fine shotgun that does the job well, but it leaves me wishing for something a little lighter. I carried around a Browning Sweet 16 this afternoon, it's not mine, it's a family gun. I've always liked the way that shotgun handled, and no more than I shoot it I wouldn't even be worried about feeding it. Thinking about keeping my eye open for one of my own, but I thought I'd ask around here to see if there were other suggestions. I'm really not set on a particular action, or gauge, I'm not looking for what the best value is, or what is the most durable. I'm looking for something that would be a pleasure to carry and shoot.
  17. This is what it looked like before.
  18. Picked this rifle up on the cheap the other day. While cleaning it up I got froggy and decided to refinish it. First refinish job. Didn't come out exactly like I wanted, but I'm happy with it. Looking forward to shooting it, just have to scrounge up some ammo.
  19. The music that I listen to most is the music that Music Row hates. I first heard this guy when he opened at a show that I went to, played two drums, guitar and sang, when he wasn't playing harmonica. It was a great show, he goes by Tennessee Jet https://youtu.be/07gbJwvgssA
  20. There are a ton of American White Pelicans on Old Hickory in the Gallatin area right now. I've seen them several times.
  21. Anyone still hunting? Seems between rain and frigid cold the season has been sub par. Worst season I've had in several years. I've always heard that cold weather gets deer moving but I've experienced the opposite. 60 to 40 they move great, 40 to 20 they hole up. And they seemed to have disappeared in the past few days. I figured they would have to eat at some point. I sat legal light to legal light yesterday and didn't see a thing, today is going to be a repeat of that if something doesn't show in the next hour. I have seen some deer along the roads after dark. The full moon probably isn't helping, but I thought they still may come out to graze mid day.
  22. The FFLs can and do charge what they like for transfers and that is fine, it's their business. The only point I have to make is that if they did an all for one price or did a cheap transfer they may be able to get more people in their door. I don't own a gun shop, if I did I would examine this. If you don't like what a gun shop charges for transfers you are always free to open your own shop and do them for a price that you like. Ain't America grand?
  23. Currently watching Ozarks. Just finished Manhunt, which was about Ted Kyzinski (sp?)
