Been hearing gobbling every morning for a couple of weeks.

Just a point of information, Sportsman's covers the trout stamp. It does not cover the duck stamp.

How many of you have ACTUALLY been hog hunting?
10-Ring replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Hunting and Fishing
After hunting pigs I have little interest in deer. Actually pig hunting is kind of like deer hunting, for men. -
I've had one for a few months and really like it.

Everything and nothing in particular. I own more stuff than most people twice my age. Scrap metal, scrap lumber, tools, all kinds of broken machinery (never know when you can source a part for something else). Basically, anything that I come across for cheap or free that I think that I will use. As much time as I spend trying to keep my house not looking like Ma and Pa Kettle's I have no desire to chase after anything specific.

Not sure if that's something that is available commercially, I think both of the guys that I know made their own using old jet ski trailers. It's pretty easy to do though.
-
Seems ideal if a guy say worked in a building which was posted and he absolutely couldn't afford to be caught caring at work.

The intake pimp on a jet ski can draw rocks and junk off of the bottom at depths of up to 8 feet. That might get to be a problem in places that carp are normally found. Additionally, jet skis handle like crap at low speeds. I have a couple of buddies who are really serious into kayak fishing. Both have drive on kayak trailers so there is no lifting and pulling involved. One of them is powered by a 6hp outboard, it will do about 20mph.

It's obsolete technology. Literally no one uses rotary telephones anymore. I doubt very few 17 year olds have ever used a rotary phone, and I doubt that very few 40 year olds on this forum have started a fire using flint and steel, or friction methods. I still have a rotary phone on the wall in my garage as a conversation piece. Young kids get a bad rap, how many of you that fuss about kids being useless and ignorant have spent time teaching kids, especially kids that aren't yours, how to do things? I know people of all ages who are useless.

Not on the list but fits the bill. I recently acquired a Kimber Micro 9 and it is my favorite carry gun that I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few. Shoots great and carries very well.

IMO $200-300 more dollars makes the difference between an entry level 1911 and a nice 1911.

ATF will no longer rule on accessories
10-Ring replied to Chucktshoes's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
So you configure the gun however you want it. Clearly it's questionable. So if the ATF issues an opinion that your configuration is not legal do they then charge you with building and shipping an illegal weapon? Is this a backhanded way for them to not have to issue opinions anymore? -
Most effective 30-30 ammo for deer?
10-Ring replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I have used this ammo in my 336 and in a .44 Mag revolver with poor results in both. 30-30- at 25 yards my grouping was approximately 12" with shots all over the place. Picked up a box of 150 gn Core Lokts and the bullet holes touch each other on the bullseye. 44- hitting about 18" low at 15 yards. Switched to another round and it was fine. I'm done with LeverRevolution -
I can get you hooked up with some oak and hickory. I'm in Wilson County though, not sure if that's too far for you.

I'd take a used American Strat over a brand spanking new Mexican Strat any day hands down. I have a Japanese myself.

You just never know, Driver killed by droped concrete
10-Ring replied to RED333's topic in General Chat
It looked straight. Clearly it isn't effective. -

I noticed yesterday morning there is what appears to be about an 8 foot tall chain link fence on both sides of the bridge. Obviously that isn't enough. -

I drive under that bridge everyday that go to the office. I'd bet my paycheck that you are correct. There isn't a decent neighborhood within walking distance. -

Absolutely. I carry enough so that my wife and daughter will be comfortable if anything were to happen to me. The last thing that I want is for them to be financially stressed if something were to happen to me. -
https://youtu.be/RivAE80knQU First got turned on to this guy almost a year ago when he opened for another of my favorites Ward Davis. I've eaten up everything he's put out.

$119.99 Mosin with pictures!
10-Ring replied to ironsniper1's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I only watched about half of the video. A cheaper alternative may be naval jelly. It's inexpensive and absolute at your local auto parts store. It will strip to bare metal. -
It's personal preference. I'm not familiar with 243 trajectories. I use a 270 for long range work. I use a 200 yard zero, that puts me a hair high at 100. It becomes an advantage at 300. At 300 in going to be about 3 inches low. With a 100 yard zero in going to be 8 inches low at 300. So, theoretically, I'm in the kill going anywhere up to 300 yards by placing the crosshairs at the center of the kill zone. If I want to hold over a little it's easier to estimate 3 inches than 8. If I forget to hold over I should still have a dead deer. This is what works for me YMMV. Study your trajectories and put it on paper.

Probably more useful too. -
@Dustbuster is who you are looking for I believe.

I recently had a repair done. Had 3 estimates ranging from $300 to $1500. The $1500 estimate included fixing some other issues as well. A friend wound up doing the work coming in under the other two. Other than him, the next lowest big was Estes Roofing. Their guy was eat enough to deal with and I thought the pricing was fair. Don't know about pricing but quality wise, W.C. Louis Roofing (615-446-8076) out of Dickson does good work. He's the only roofer I know of in middle Tennessee who uses American labor. They also don't use nail guns, they hammer everything. Not sure on the benefit of that, but they do it the old way for sure.
