Discrete case for Mossberg Shockwave
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
While searching through the many suggestions here, Amazon popped this poster storage tube up. At $20 it was just what I was looking for. It just got here and is great! I'll probably fill a small camera bag with extra ammo and attach it to the shoulder strap. All I need now is a Bernie Sanders sticker to remove any doubt that there is anything of value inside. Now you see it Now you don't -
He should really stick to singing and stay away from political commentary.

I can't quit listening to Tyler Childers
-
I would recommend spending a bit of time on YouTube listening to him. There is a whole movement in country music that pays respect to classic country music, and you don't hear any of it on the radio. His most recent album is whacky and not to my taste, but some of his previous albums such as, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, A Sailors Guide to Earth, and High Top Mountain are country to the core. I don't judge whether or not an artist is worthy based solely on them writing their own songs, but it's bonus points if you will. Sturgill writes his own stuff. Check this out

I picked up some a few years ago at Reloader's Bench when I loaned a Mosin to a friend. I don't think a deer was ever taken with the rifle but my friend wound up using the rifle and ammo to dispatch 4 different horses and it did fine for that. I recall the RB had a single offering for non FMJ ammo, it would be worth stopping in and asking since you are local.

Ronald, that's just what I needed, thanks!

Still having issues. When I paste the url into the box, this is what it looks like, and it will not let me post. Anyone else experiencing this? I am doing everything from a phone if it matters. https://imgur.com/gallery/p7m3n26

I'm a huge fan of Sturgill's music (everything up to his recent offerings anyway), but not a huge fan of him as a person, he has some lefty tendencies and supports some gun control. I wouldn't hold it against him as much if he didn't use his notoriety to promote it. I'm sure other artists that I like feel the same way, but realize that they are entertainers and not political personalities, and by refraining from taking a political stance they don't put themselves out there for that scrutiny. And for that I am grateful. https://www.spin.com/2017/11/sturgill-simpson-busking-cmas-gun-control-gay-marriage/

Looking for suggestions for a discrete carrying case for a Mossberg Shockwave (14" 12ga). Intended use is for traveling. Something where the gun is really accessible while driving, yet not obvious if someone were to look into the vehicle. Would also like the ability to throw it over my shoulder and walk into a hotel without raising suspicion. I'd like it as compact as possible, a violin case or tennis racket case is probably bigger than what I want. I was thinking a pool cue case, but I'm not sure if that's big enough.

The most difficult part of striper fishing is locating them. Think about where their food sources are. Sonar is invaluable. I use live shad, the bigger the better. I run about 7 ft of leader with 3oz of weight above the leader, give or take for current and put my bait about 15 ft down.

I've been neglecting fishing for far too long. Decided to get serious about striper. This is my third morning out this week. It's been a good week other than my pole breaking on Monday. I've been able to boat a fish everyday I've been out this week. These things are so much fun! (Been having issues for a while posting from imgur, can't ever get the pic to imbed, but here is the link) https://imgur.com/gallery/AuizNql

Ultimate carpenter bee gun. Other than that, I see no point, as it won't do anything that a number of other .22s that I have can do. This isn't even a yard gun. .22 shot shell has a very limited range, its handy if you need to kill a rodent indoors, but other than that it's a pretty useless round.

Tennessee has a 50% chance of winning every coin toss this year, which is their best chance at winning anything.

I got this picture from my backyard in Lebanon back in the spring. There were two juvenile balls eagles, they hung around for about a week, haven't seen them since. I've heard of several in the 109 bridge area, which isn't but about 3-4 miles from my house straight line. http://imgur.com/gallery/b0pkkSs

When attempting to post pictures from imgur, after copying the address into the external url box, the box turns red and the picture won't post. Any idea what's going on here?

I'm going to throw in my two cents as a safety professional. Best practices when handling lead: - wear disposable gloves - use ventilation, an exhaust hood is ideal, but the idea is to get dust or fumes away from you. Beware that using makeshift equipment such as a fan is going to blow lead dust all over your work area. - wear long sleeves and long pants, take them off and wash them when you are done handling lead. - don't eat, drink, or smoke while handling lead, or in areas where lead is handled. - a respirator is a good idea, but you don't want to buy one off of the shelf and start using it without the proper knowledge and precautions. You need to be fit tested before wearing a respirator. A fit test ensures that the respirator makes a good seal on your face. IIRC some medical clinics, such as Concentra offer this service. You also need to get a medical evaluation to make sure that your heart and lungs can take the added stress of a respirator. Also, store your respirator in a gallon size zip lock bag when you are not using it, use the correct filters, and change filters at a regular interval. This is a very brief summary of protecting yourself from lead dust. Avoiding contaminants is complex. Just wanted to put this out there to 1) inform and 2) possibly prevent someone from an overexposure because they thought they were protecting themselves, but their method wasn't effective. Not only do you need to use engineering controls and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) they need to be used properly.

Opinions on an H&R Handi Rifle in .223 for coyote hunting?
10-Ring replied to Sidewinder's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Unless you are eating the coyote, or tanning the hide, overkill isn't an issue. -
I did way more research on coolers than I should have before making a purchase. Here's the thing, they are all going to hold ice for 10 days in January. Nobody is bragging during the month of July that their Yeti just held ice for 10 days. I wound up buying a 55 quart Lifetime from Walmart for just under $100. Priming the cooler is crucial to ice retention. I have the ability to put mine inside of a freezer for a little while before I use it and it does a really good job. It will keep ice over the weekend if I prime it correctly and keep it out of direct sun. I've been really happy with the cooler and its durability and construction. Lifetime is also made in the US.

You don't strike me as the kind of fella that would want to be associated with that crowd. I hope your party is like minded and y'all have a fun and successful hunt. If you are hunting the area that I believe you are you will be East of Tellico Plains along the Cherohala Skyway. Beautiful area, if you get off the pavement and use the forest service roads you won't have any issues. When I used to do a lot of dual sport dirt biking in that area I never had any issues with the hunters that I crossed paths with back there (of course I was polite, and didn't go flying past them). Ironically the hunters out in the woods were easy to get along with and pleasant to speak with. It was the ones with a dog on the hood running down a heavily traveled paved road that would get mad because a motorcycle was too loud and would spook their dog.

I lived in that area for a while. What Peejman said. You won't be taking any long shots. The norm around there for bear hunters is to drink heavily, trespass, assault landowners when confronted about trespassing, hunt from the road, and block the road for long periods of time. As such, a lot of people who generally don't mind hunting, are fence sitters, or even people that hunt, but don't bear hunt, don't care for bear hunters. It's a very strange dynamic and people either seem to be very pro bear hunting, or very anti bear hunting. Just some observations that I thought I would pass along

That would explain a lot with pigs since they are breeding year round. In the winter when food isn't as plentiful it would make since that the sow isn't getting the nutrients that she would get in the summer.

I've had 3" turkey loads knock me backwards while kneeling before. (I was in an odd stance because of where the turkey came in from.) I don't want that kind of power without a stock. Yes, I did get that turkey.

Help me out here. I'm pretty experienced cooking wild game. But I need some help with pork. This last one was tough and stringy even though it was <50 pounds. I barely cook deer (as in rare), but I don't want to go that route with pork.
-
No doubt. I saw a pretty nice buck in my driveway a couple of weeks ago. Snapped a pic, but I haven't put out cameras, salt licks, or corn this summer. Focused on pigs.

That's one of the things that I like about pig hunting, there are a bunch of ways to do it and none of them are wrong.
