Where in Nashville for some car audio quality installation
10-Ring replied to Dad03's topic in General Chat
I had a good bit of work done at Cartronics in Rivergate but that was about 10 years ago. They did a really good job. -
I really like Townsend I live about 20 miles from there. Might check out Top of The World area just off of the Foothills Parkway. Usually quite a bit of property for sale up that way and it's a pretty cool area.

I used to subscribe to a number of motorcycle and gun mags and I'm down to one of each now that were given to me as gift subscriptions, The gun mag is Guns and Ammo. It is dissappointing at best and every month when I get an issue Im just glad I'm not paying for it. The reason I mentioned the motorcycle mag is I have the same problem with it as I do the gun mags. The content in these things are horrible. It is basically a showcase of new guns, new ammo, articles about reloading oddball rounds. Now and then they will run an article about a new gun I'm interested in and that's nice. But for the most part the whole magazine is just advertising. The articles always seem biased backing the item as the best thing since sliced bread. Oh and can we please get a single issue of G&A without an AR-15 article? I have nothing agaist ARs but I don't find it necessary to have an AR article in every single issue. :RANT OFF:

I found it odd I think it was in one of his Topix threads, he said he worked for the Sparta sheriffs department. Sparta doesn't have a sheriffs department, that would be the White County Sheriffs Department, then there is the Sparta Police Department. If he was employed by either it seems he would know the difference between the two. I would have to call BS on him working for either.

Utility trailer dealers in Middle Tennessee
10-Ring replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Another +1 for BJs. I bought my trailer from them almost 10 years ago. They were very easy to deal with and after 10 abusive years the trailer is still holding up great! -
I just sold one for $1600, guess I should have posted it there. Check out the WERA 13X forums, should be lots of them over there.

Just depends, for the most part I like to only shoot does because I prefer them for their meat. I might take a yearling depending on what the freezer looks like. I prefer to take something with a little bit more meat on its bones but try to stay away from a doe in a group that looks exceptionally big as she is probably a little bit older and tougher than the rest. In Tennessee it seems that an 80-100 pound doe eats pretty good and I'm sure a little bigger won't be bad either. I killed a 180 pound doe once and it wasn't hardly fit to eat. As far as bucks go it varies by the individual. I may shoot a scrubby looking buck if it has an ugly rack just to get it out of the gene pool. I usually let bucks walk, I have a nice one on the wall from long ago, and I don't really want to pay to mount another one (That's the price of a nice gun anymore.) Not to say if a buck came out on me and made me drop my jaw I wouldn't take it. It's up to you, if you see a nice 4 pointer that you would feel proud to take I see nothing wrong with taking it, though I prefer to let any nice young buck walk.

I've lived and worked in Oak Ridge and Cookeville. The meth and pill problem was absolutely ridiculous in Cookeville. Oak Ridge was bad for pills but not too bad for meth. Then I worked down the road in Clinton for a while and the meth there was a lot worse than it was in Cookeville but that was mostly from people coming in from Lake City, Briceville, LAFollote, and places like that. It's sad and frustrating to see.

So say the OP loads up the shotgun, brings it back to TN and doesn't do a transfer, who would ever be the wiser. Even if he did happen to get pulled over on the way home with it and it happened to come up, dad just says "That's my shotgun, brought it with me to do some shooting with my father."

I got a lot of stuff from the late 80's early 90's. Was the thing to collect back then, but evidently everyone was collecting cards and from what I understand cards from that era aren't worth much of anything.

Why .22 mag? Although I understand that it is a great round for certain purposes I never thought it to be a good plinking round because of the cost. Therefore I don't see why it would be desireable in an AR platform.

Great Interaction with Hamilton County SO Today
10-Ring replied to Cherokee Slim's topic in General Chat
I stopped at the scene of a motorcycle crash last summer to render aid. I happened to get the victims blood on my outer shirt and warned a police officer that I had a permit and was about to remove my outer shirt and my gun would be showing. He looked at me funny and made me go put my gun in my truck. I was a little offended but didn't make a big deal out of it, I wanted to tell him to go put his gun in his car but I'm not one to start trouble. As long as it stays in the holster I don't see why they want to disarm us? -
I'm probably in trouble thanks to you guys
10-Ring replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I knew a fella that was married to a woman that didn't care much for guns. This guy was always reloading and he was always tinkering with something in his gun room. His wife said, "I'm not going to say anything as long as he is happy, I know where he is, I know what he's doing and I know who he is with." Smart woman I say. -
That's cool but please get some hearing proction for that boy. I know they are quiet rounds but make it a habit. Noone ever taught me about hearing protection so I went through my adolensence and teens blasting away with all sorts of rifles and shotguns and I had substantial hearing loss by the time I was in my early 20's. It hasn't gotten much better over the years, my friends will tell you my favorite words are "what" and "huh." Get him in the habit now so he doesn't grow up to be hard of hearing like me. On the squirrels... I've taken a ton of suburban squirrels. I've taken them with pellet guns and I've taken them with all sorts of .22 ammo. It can be done either way but I prefer the .22 CB over the pellet gun. I've even killed feral cats with the CBs. Instant kills at under 20 yards. In my experience the CB was a little louder than a pellet but not much. I was shooting them out of my BL-22 so it should be about the same.

That's my turf! Fontana Dam is quite amazing. It is actually the tallest dam East of the Mississippi River. 530 feet if I'm not mistaken. I hope you saw it from the bottom and the top, really cool place!

Are we talking a meltdown or a target shooting competetion? If I'm drilling paper I'll take the 1911 everytime, it's just a joy to shoot. If I'm going up against God knows what and who I'm taking my Glock. I know my Glock is going to work. It will not be finicky. I don't need to drive nails with it, I need it to be battle accurate. The Glock would have to take a crap ton of ammo before it got too dirty to run and would even need to be torn down and cleaned out. Yall go ahead and trust your lives to a 1911, when the SHTF and your 1911 breaks me and my Glock are coming to take your stuff

Affordable scope for Mosin? i.e. pistol scope, etc
10-Ring replied to a topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I'm currently building a Mosin for distance shooting, I'm not competing with it, just building it to learn the skill. I'm actually paying a lot more than I have in every other part of the rifle combined to put good glass on it. The way I figure the glass isn't permantley attached to the gun. So what if I have a $600 scope on a $70 rifle, I can always take it off and move it to something else if I so choose. -
How to get paper work accepted without all the bull...everytime...
10-Ring replied to a topic in General Chat
I had my record expunged after a minor incident while in college. You can hire a lawyer but I didn't bother, I think I just spoke with a local judge and he saw that I hadn't caused any more trouble and ordered my record expunged, I think I had to make about a $150 donation to the county as well. May be well worth the money if you are having that much trouble. -
Lawmakers push to eliminate gun background checks for Permit Holders
10-Ring replied to aquaman67's topic in General Chat
When I lived in North Carolina this is how it was and I never heard of any problems because of it. I really like this idea but I really hate the slanted article the OP posted, hard to find media that will give us a fair shake though. -
Glad he did what he did. I did my time in corporate retail. Your manager will likely be job hunting soon. Corporations have no backbone whatsoever, it's all about making sure no one gets their feelings hurt and the company makes as much money as possible. I wish your manager the best through this situation.

Open Carry for 1st time...not the best experience...
10-Ring replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The fact that you were in Cades Cove plays into things quite a bit. I spend quite a bit of time there myself, you are talking about the one place that everyone passing through our region must stop by so you get all types, plus they are on vacation so you already know that they left their brain at home. From experience I can tell you that when OCing in such a place and someone says something a reply such as "lots of bears around here" will usually put the nosy person at ease. -
My dad had one that I really liked and shot a lot. I found that it was slightly picky with ammo. That particular gun ran fine after cleaning it good but after about 500 rounds it would start to hiccup, I would strip it down and clean it and it would be good to go for another 500.

Do you mind sharing who your local guy is? I'm about fed up with trying to buy ammo at the Murvul Wally World. I have to track someone down with keys everytime I need something and then pay for it right there, then pay for the rest of my stuff later. I usually pass through sporting goods several times while I'm shopping to catch an employee in the area. As far as the Walmart clerks go it's hit or miss. I used to work at the Walmart in Clinton and the sporting goods manager up there really knew his stuff when it came to guns, he was a gun and outdoor enthusiast and was an armorer in the Army. We talked guns a lot and he was very knowledgeable. I'm sure that is the exception to the rule.

Starbucks' 'Pro-Gun' Policy Prompts Gun Victims' Advocate Group to Launch Nationwide Boycott on... -- CHICAGO, Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The anti gun crowd is boycotting Starbucks on February 14, 2012 because they allow LEGALLY carried weapons on their premisses. Everyone please make sure you stop by Starbucks that day and get a cup of coffee. I know $4 is a lot to spend for a cup of coffee but this company is really holding their ground and not caving in to the demands of the anti's on this. Personally I never open carry but I was thinking about OCing just to prove that my gun is not going to jump out of it's holster and start shooting people. I'll simply be a quiet guy having a cup of coffee, with a gun on my hip. If anyone would like to join my pistol and I on our Valentines Day date, you are more than welcome. I'll be at the Maryville Starbucks.
