  1. I'm having a hard time imagining using rock salt. Lead 8's work just fine. All I've ever eaten on them is the breast, as far as I know that's all of the meat that is on a dove. I'd say the average dove breast is about the size of a chicken egg. Doves have such a high mortality rate and short life span to where most that are alive this dove season will not be this time next year.
  2. I eat them, I think they are hard to beat actually. I like to marinate them in Italian dressing, wrap a piece of bacon around them and grill them.
  3. Anyone holding any dove shoots that will be open to the public? Haven't been on a good shoot in a long time.
  4. If you decide to involve authorities I would suggest doing so via prepaid cell phone and don't give your name or address to dispatch. I live in a rural area where there is little compliant to shooting of any kind, yet one guy about a 1/2 down the road will call the sheriff anytime anyone within ear shot fires a gun. Example, neighbor A kills a raccoon in his chicken coop around day break one morning, neighbor B calls the sheriff and reports that he saw neighbor A shoot a deer (this was summer time.) Neighbor A hears on the scanner that neighbor B has called the cops on him. Cops show up and asks neighbor A if he had been firing a gun that morning, neighbor A told the deputy the truth and the deputy told him there was no problem with that at all. Neighbor B has called the cops on me several times, they have showed up at my place several times, each time they were friendly and told me to carry on. My point is just be careful if you do call the cops as it is likely to get around that you were the one that called which could cause you more trouble.
  5. I've seen a lot of deer drop to the SKS over the years. Very adequate rifle.
  6. I'm a big ultralight fan. I find it takes much less effort to find lighter gear than it does to find bigger fish.
  7. Another prime example. I don't get that one much because my family is pretty traditional and I never bothered to get married. My brother on the other hand did and he and his wife don't want kids, not anytime soon anyway. Both of us are a good bit past the age when most people start having kids. My sister in law finally get my parents to can it when she replied "Maybe you should talk to your other son about having some kids, he might be able to help you there!"
  8. Haha, I'm no internet tough guy, I wasn't being defensive as much as I was thinking about how the way a write my ads may not be too inviting for buyers. It seems like if you are a nice guy in the ad and don't lay down some ground rules then people just run all over you and try to take advantage of you. It's a slippery slope, to nice and you get run over, firm wording and you look like a butthead.
  9. Seems here lately a lot of people stick their noses into my life without invitation. I'm always getting comments such as "I don't know how you live that far out in the sticks, hopefully one day you will be able to move closer to town." And "That doesn't sound like a very good job, why don't you go put in an application at XXX?" Here is the thing I'm pretty happy in most every aspect of my life. People make assumptions that I am forced to live "out in the sticks" while in reality that is what I have wanted since I was a small child. I work a job that I really do like and I don't think many people can say that. I'll never be rich but I make enough money to be pretty comfortable and I'm happy with it so I don't know why everyone else cares so much. And if I hear one more person tell me that motorcycles are dangerous and I shouldn't ride them I just might scream.
  10. I'm not opposed to haggling if it's haggling for the sake of haggling, I do that myself. But when it is rationalized because a 15 year old vehicle has something that is a normal wear and tear item that pisses me off. Reason being I was selling said vehicle very cheaply. If you walk around the vehicle and assess every single minor imperfection and adjust the price for such you could claim that the vehicle would be worth something but to make this particular vehicle like new it would cost 30 grand. That's why it's being sold as is as a used vehicle. It's not a collector piece, it's something that is functional that you don't have to knock the mud off of your boots before you get in it and you can scratch it without getting upset.
  11. Perhaps I might be turning sellers away with some ads then. I don't think that I have ever been as blatant as placing the phrase "Don't waste my time" in my ad but I've certainly written things like "No test rides until money is in hand" when selling a motorcycle and "I will not meet you anywhere, if you want to see this item you will have to come to me." As for the first, the item was a very fast motorcycle (GSXR1000.) Generally when I sell a motorcycle my policy is cash in hand you can ride it, you don't like it and bring it back in one piece I will return your money. This seems to keep the tire kickers away, it's amazing how many people will show up with no intention to buy just because they want to ride your bike. The second phrase I put in there I use because I don't want to drive an hour to meet someone just to hear them say that it is the wrong color or they don't have the money right now. My Craigslist listings are probably pretty abrasive but it's only because of the bad experiences I've had with the site, yet it still seems the best way to sell used items that I know of.
  12. I used to live there, about an hour away now. Pretty nice area with a few sketchy people in town, really nice when you get out of town a little way. Mama Mia's pizza is a must do in Kingston if you like pizza.
  13. I don't get it, you either want the item or you don't. I'm not wasting a sellers time if I don't know. If I don't have the cash to pay for something at that moment I'm not going to hassle the seller. As long as the item is as described and the price is agreed on I don't understand the whole "SPF" thing either. As long as we are talking guns and whatnot we are usually talking a matter of a few hundred dollars. "SPF" sounds like you are awaiting a call from a financial institution to make sure that your loan has been approved or something. Another thing that gets me when I'm trying to sell stuff is people who want a discount because the item is used. Case in point I have an SUV that I've been trying unsuccessfully to sell for a while. It's a clunker, it's got 250,000 miles on it, it needs certain things done mechanically which I have always disclosed. I had one guy come look at it and he tells me I need to knock $100 off because the door bushings are worn out. Really? Dude, I'm asking $700 for this vehicle that has a quarter million miles on it, anyone should be able to deduct from that information that this is not a certified preowned, like new vehicle.
  14. More precaution than anything, I generally don't post pics of guns whereas a serial number can be made out. More than likely nothing would ever happen but why take the chance. 1) I don't want anyone to be able to link me to any gun period. May be a little of a tinfoil hat thing, I just see no reason to make it public knowledge that I own any gun in particular. Tag me as a gun owner all you want but that's about as specific as I would like to be, no need to be owner of evil black rifle serial number ABC123. 2) As previously mentioned maybe someone that doesn't like me for whatever reason decides to say I have their stolen gun and they can "prove" it because how else would they know the serial number, once again, a long shot but why take the chance. 3) Same reasons I don't post my address on public forums. More than likely nothing would ever happen but why put that info out there?
  15. I don't care what you say, the man accomplished more in his lifetime with one testicle than most men will ever accomplish with two. BTW doping should be mandatory in all professional sports. If I pay to watch a baseball game I want to see homeruns. If I wanted to see a ground out at first I would watch little league.
  16. I'll +1 for Sweet P's. Everything there is really good. The sides are as good as the main dishes. Sorry but Buddy's just doesn't do it for me, I quit trying after several locations and several disappointments.
  17. I know the situation very well, don't want to go into a lot of detail as it is a private matter but I trust this girl 100%. Somewhat, he is still obligated to make child support payments. The amount that he owes is still building even though he is not paying on it. Hopefully the court will eventually do something about it but they don't seem to be in much of a hurry. I don't want to speculate too much but I have my suspicions about some illegitimate income that he may have but I have zero proof. He lives with a family member who he mooches off of and since he has no car he has very little overhead. His current girlfriend also works multiple jobs which he reaps the benefits of. I'm learning all that I can about how child support works, evidently in TN the child support is garnished right out of the paycheck by the state and the state then sends the money to the other parent.
  18. No I'm upset with the dad because he contributes zero dollars for the care of his child. He isn't on any kind of government assistance as he is too lazy to fill out the forms. If he was on assistance he could then at least contribute some money towards his daughter's care, but he has zero income and will not attempt to be employed. I doubt that he would qualify for much assistance anyhow as he is an able bodied 23 year old male, who's only disability is laziness. Sad part is he is a skilled tradesman so he has the potential to make good money. At one time I was in the same field and I was bringing home $5,000 a month. Raising a child in a broken family should theoretically be halves on each parent, childcare, food, clothes, medical, etc. The only contribution he makes to her care is keeping her when he feels like it, that is when he isn't hanging out with his friends or has something better to do. As Tripledigitride stated the state just won't go after these deadbeats. Even when a mother receives child support it usually isn't enough to cover half of the child's needs but it helps a lot more than nothing at all. It has come to the point where she is not receiving quality care when he keeps her. He does not have a car or a phone which concerns me if she has a medical emergency. Additionally the house that he lives in is infested with fleas. She also behaves poorly after she has stayed with her dad, there is just no structure or discipline there. To answer your question though, if he were providing adequate care and was at least trying to provide something monetarily I think that she would take that into consideration. At this point she has decided that the care that he provides is inadequate and I agree with her on that. Therefore she has asked me to help pay for her daycare, which I told her that I would. It is really heartbreaking to see someone disregard their own child that way.
  19. A real man can drive a Miata and not feel inadequate.
  20. I don't know jack about humidors and cigars but I thought that I would throw this out there anyway, maybe you can use it? How about the sap from a pine or cedar tree? Could that possibly work?
  21. There are some good companies out there that just make good products. If we all share what we like we might be able to learn about good products from one another. I could really care less about promoting some big company such as Nike just because, I'm talking about stuff that we've used that we just really liked. Doesn't need to necessarily be gun or outdoor related, think more everyday stuff or even hobby related. For me, here are a few. 1. Merrell shoes 2. Smartwool socks 3. ENO hammocks 4. Glock pistols 5. Smith and Wesson revolvers 6. Cannon cameras and lenses 7. Rocketfish computer accessories 8. Rebel and Rapala fishing lures 9. Shimano fishing reels
  22. It has crossed my mind to go to his house and whoop up on him every Friday afternoon until he gets a job. I'm just not going to stoop down to that level.
  23. Sorry yall I have to vent a little bit. There is someone very close to me. She is a single mother, has a full time job, owns her own home, is a really good parent and is trying very hard to make ends meet without any help. She also does volunteer work nearly every week in addition to her busy schedule. Her daughters father is unemployed and has been for the last 5 months. He refuses to pay child support or get a job. He has been hand delivered numerous job applications to places that are hiring and refuses to even fill them out. So my friend applied for assistance with a government program called Families First. Families First will go after dead beat dads and will provide money for childcare. Currently her daughter's father watches her while she works when she can not afford childcare. If she were unemployed she could draw more money than she is making by working full time but she has too much pride to do that and I'm proud of her for that. Just doesn't seem right to me that what we have here is a young lady who is trying her best, even trying to raise money for her daughter to go to college, and is penalized for that by the government. All the while someone who does not attempt to provide for their child's future, or for that matter their present needs gets free money every month.
