  1. Tired of these people.  Don't want to sound too cocky but she can want in one hand and $*** in the other and see which one fills up faster.
  2. My first guess would be that the semi was hauling a load that was, classified, dangerous, or otherwise special and had an armed escort.  That's just a guess, I lived in Oak Ridge for a while and someone was always talking about armed truck escorts around there.
  3. Showing up for me, you had me scared there for a minute.
  4. Not really sure where these people come up with this stuff?  As of April 2013 passengers may carry a pocket knife as long as the blade is less than 2.36 inches long.  The provision also allows the carry on of base ball bats that meet the criteria, pool cues, lacrosse sticks, and golf clubs.  Golf clubs are limited to 2 per passenger so I'm not really sure what the point is here.  I think an airplane is about as sterile of an environment that you can get.  An airplane is about the only gun free zone I feel safe in.  Not sure about these rules though.  It looks to me like some of these items could compromise safety.  I say either no golf clubs or I get to carry on my Glock, I don't care for this half ass stuff.   Sorry for the CNN link, I saw a news report on TV this morning and CNN was the first article that popped up when I searched. http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/05/travel/tsa-carry-on-changes/index.html?npt=NP1
  5. The carpet throughout the house is filthy, I just can't tolerate it.  The safe weighs about 700 lbs.  My experience with laminate is limited, I know just enough to be dangerous.  I'm also thinking about just starting at the opposite side of the room so I could just go back and redo the last 3 feet when I'm ready to move, I'm thinking that it wouldn't be more than 3 rows that I would have to redo.  Unfortunately, the room the safe is going in is a front facing extra bedroom, it has double windows looking out at the street so these will have to be covered 100% of the time so as the safe is not visible from the street, therefore fade shouldn't be a problem.
  6. One bad man down, many many many more to go.
  7. My wife and I just purchased a house and will be moving soon.  I've never had a house before with a slab foundation but I do have experience with concrete anchors.  Anchoring the safe to the slab it self is not a problem the problem lies in what to do about the flooring material.  The room that the safe is going in currently has carpet but we are planning on ripping up the carpet and installing laminate.  Should I set the safe directly on the concrete and lay the flooring around the safe or set the safe on top of the laminate.  My concern is that we are only planning on living in this house for about 2 years and then moving on.  It seems that either way I do it I will have to redo the flooring in that room when we move.    Another idea that has crossed my mind is to figure out where the holes need to go and use a hole saw to cut holes in the laminate for the bolts to pass through.  I'm thinking when it's time to move I could possibly glue the cutouts back into the holes and it would be minimally noticeable.  Thoughts?
  8. Retailers are going to sell this stuff right now, it is not going to sit on their shelves collecting dust.  If anything stores that are putting limits on ammo and components are doing us average Joe's a favor.  It would be easier for them to sell their entire stock to the first scalper that comes in as opposed to spreading it out over several customers.
  9. I buy what appeals to me that will get used.  I realize that I will never have every single gun that I want but I will try to have as many as I can.  Right now I'm into .22s, and I will begin shooting them again as soon as ammo is available.  I pretty much have all of the necessary bases covered so I try to get things that I just enjoy.  I really like the older .22s, the cheaper the better, kind of one man's trash is anothers treasure.  I would like to add a large caliber revolver and a AR15 to the arsenal but besides that I'm pretty content with what I have.
  10. I had one once that I think would be just what you are looking for. It was actually an organizer that had several pockets for tools, duct tape, maps, flashlights, you know all of the stuff that you should carry in a truck. It was made of vinyl and had a sleeve built into it for a long gun. Here's a pic sorry it's so small.
  11. 4 million?  We used to call that a fun morning.
  12. I need a new transmission for my truck.  It's a '95 F-150 and uses a E4OD transmission and is 4 wheel drive.  I had a guy lined up to rebuild mine but he has bailed out.  I'm not interested in a pull a part transmission as that is where the last two came from and I've done more transmission changes than oil changes since then.  I would like to find a used one with a verified history or have someone rebuild it so I'm just looking for recommendations for someone in the area that is honest and does good work.  Also I would prefer to buy the transmission and install it myself, I pretty much have that down pat at this point in the game.  Thanks.
  13. If I'm not mistaken the Sig 1911s are not technically 1911s as their internals are different than that of a standard 1911 so it's possible those measurements may not work for your gun.
  14. Well I'll be cancelling my Guns and Ammo subscription which honestly is hardly worth reading anymore.  You can only write so many articles on 1911's and Ar-15s.  I mean I like both, I also like pizza, but I don't need to eat it for every single meal.
  15. Though I wouldn't trade my gun for a cane I believe a cane is an excellent tool for going into areas where other defensive tools may be forbidden.  Without more training I would prefer a good staff over a knife for defensive purposes.  Of course if I'm cane shopping mine will need to be black and have quad rails, get your assault canes while you can folks, the liberals will be passing legislation on those soon enough.
  16. This was about a mile from my house.  We don't play around over here on the East side.
  17. I would stay away from the Cumberland Ave. area.  That is where the college kids hang out.  My wife and I like the Market Square/ Gay Street area or the Old City when we go out.  There are several great restaurants in Market Square.  We like to eat at the Downtown Grill and Brewery on Gay Street, they have some pretty good craft brews if you are a beer drinker.  We also like Barley's Tap Room in the Old City, they have lots of beers on tap and they have some pretty good pizza.  Of course this area is a pretty good hump to Thompson Boling but compared to a cab ride from Gatlinburg the cab ride from this area to Thompson Bolin will be a drop in the bucket.
  18. I've been in a foul mood all morning and this didn't help anything.  I have nothing lots of not nice things to say but I will restrain myself best I can.  Employing gangs to protect their assets, which were likely paid for by our tax dollars.  Nice.
  19. Fire side chats with Barry?  They can just use The Constitution to start the fire.
  20. In my eyes when you take my stuff, where ever my stuff is is now my "ground."  Following at a distance while police arrive is fine.  If they want to shoot at me because of that I'll shoot back.  I'm not threatening their life by following them but when they produce a gun they are threatening mine.  Extreme, I know, but I would also support public floggings for thieves anyhow.
  21. I gave up my house where I could shoot when I got married in November.  We just bought another house but I can't shoot there either.  The plan is to stay in that house for 2 years sell it, then buy what we really want.  The location was good on this house and it was a foreclosure, we are hoping to turn a nice profit on it and have a hefty down payment on our "dream home" which will have a nice sized garage, a gun range, and whatever she wants.
  22. After getting turned on to Moto GP a few years ago car racing is now only suitable for napping.
  23. I can't answer all of your questions but may be able to help a little bit.  My first question would concern your intent.  Are you simply trying to provide a few responsible people with a place to shoot or is this a money making venture?  Either way I would incorporate into an LLC in order to separate this venture from your personal assets.  In the event that you are ever sued all they come after are the assets of the corporation, which you would keep minimal.  If you are simply trying to provide a range for a few people to use and are not out to make a profit I think that you could set it up as a non-profit and put the dues back into the range in order to maintain it.  If you are doing it for profit then you will certainly have to pay taxes on dues if you want to stay on the up and up, and I assume that you are if you are asking that question in the first place.    I would have an attorney draw up a liability release that everyone must sign before entering the range area.  This would also be a good person to ask about liabilities concerning illegal guns on the range.   As far as your neighbors go if you are in an unrestricted area there is probably not much that they can do.  How many people would be affected and how are they likely to react?  Remember you are the one that has to live next door to them if you piss them off.   I recently had to move and no longer have my own range anymore, I wish you were closer.  I'm cheap but I would be willing to pay $100 per year without thinking much about it.  I'm sure others would easily be willing to pay more.    I'm thinking that this is a venture that ultimately would not make a whole lot of money.  I think building a range is something you do more for the love of the hobby.  If that is your motive you might be able to create a nice little "gun club" consisting of like minded individuals, might not make a whole lot of money but it could be a great life experience.
  24. It's disappointing to read a lot of the comments in this thread.
  25. If you are looking for an extended stay hotel as opposed to a short term apartment.  It's close to the airport, about 10 miles from downtown Knoxville and about 20 miles from Oak Ridge, I think their rates are around $180 per week.
