I think the 2nd Amendment and the "separation of church and state" clause are the two most mis-interpreted parts of the whole Constitution....I concur with those that understood the meaning of 2A in its historical context and the intention of the Founding Fathers. Keep in mind that much of the Constitution was written in RESPONSE to specific things the Brits were doing. Had the Brits behaved differently, the Constitution too, would have come out differently.

Yea, haha that $400 initial is way too steep for me, especially since my income level doesn't allow me to blow brass on a weekly basis to even make it worth it. Anyone know how much is Desoto's club is? Do we have to be a MS resident to go?

Where are some outdoor shooting ranges near Memphis besides MSSA (too expensive!) and Natchez Trace (not too far but not close enough to go on any consistent basis)?

I read the stuff that JT said about his experience (he actually had quite a lot to say) and I have much respect for him.

Always such hate for the Kimber but an over-exaggerated love for Colt or Springfield....I've owned them all and although I carry a Colt now, my absolute favorite gun to shoot was the Kimber Custom II, for a gun in that price range. Kimbers are an incredibly accurate gun (mechanically accurate that is) with a lot of features for a relatively low price. Throw some Wilson Combat 47D's on there and you're good to go. I found the mechanical accuracy of Colt 70 and 80, SA GI, Loaded, and TRP, to be lacking compared to the basic Custom II. If you aren't going to war with this thing, then Kimber is the way to go and easy to sell as well if you get tired of it. They are tack drivers out the box.

Bulk SHTF Stash/Bulk Plinking
PolePosition replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I'm in the same boat. I was told by a well respected AR builder to just get the 55gr for the 1/7 16". Basically, even though the 55 vs 62 in theory supposedly have different characteristics in the 1/7, in real life in the types of distances you or I would shoot in, there is very little difference. For competition or something, obviously you want to go with heavier match grade, but for plinking or killing zombies, 55gr bulk ammo is just fine. The next debate was whether to get Federal XM193 or get PMC X-Tac 55gr...was told that right now the XM193's are pretty much the rejects and are not very consistent in accuracy. The PMC X-Tac is much better for consistent accuracy. Its not match grade by any means, but you should get the same accuracy from batch to batch. -

Need some SBR advice
PolePosition replied to PolePosition's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
In my original post, I said I was exploring my options whether to sell or keep. I think people kinda just focused on certain aspects of my question but yea I think I have all the information I need from the different responses I got here. -

Yea I was just going to sell the upper by itself, since that's where the money is. Had no intention of selling the lower. -

Oh that's really cool. I'll look into that. I'll still sell my SBR to anyone interested but def going to research that Orion Arms service -
I have an SBR (LMT 10.5" upper with Stag lower) and I've been contemplating selling it for a couple reasons. 1) Nice to have money for a gun I don't shoot that much *read: never* and 2) I hate the Stag lower. Kinda silly but I hate that stupid deer head on it and shoulda thought more about it when I built it. What would my options be for selling? Sell upper? Sell whole thing? Like, what is the process, which would be better option, etc. Another option would be to somehow de-logo the lower. Is this possible without it looking ghetto? What about having a different lower SBR'd instead? Is it possible to just swap lowers without having to pay for another stamp?

Anyone have any experience with this? Just saw a video of Rob Leatham shooting it and he seems really pleased with it. Plus there is a huge promotion going on as well (For a limited time, gun comes with 1 extra mag for a total of 3, and then you can mail off for 3 more free mags and an additional free mag holster....grand total of 6 mags!!!)

I didn't read every post, so this may have already been addressed... but let's just say that the data WAS collected properly and that really and truly TN has the 2nd highest number/percentage of violent crimes involving firearms. From a legislation and safety standpoint, some things that need to be addressed are 1) Status of the person committing the crime (handgun permit holder? felon? resident with valid driver's license?) 2) How the firearm was acquired (Can the firearm be traced to the perpetrator as the purchaser? What is the status of the owner if the owner is not the perpetrator? Did the firearm originate from a TN store?) and 3) Socioeconomic status of perpetrator and socioeconomic status of the area where the crime was committed I think answers to those questions will reveal a lot of useful information that gives better insight into the statistics for the public and also for the lawmakers.

Crimson Trace laser opinions?
PolePosition replied to PolePosition's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Thanks guys. Ordered a set tonight. -
I've got a Colt New Agent (the gun that just has the trench, no sights) and I'm not too confident with the whole sightless deal. Love the gun, just not confident with it as my carry gun. Aside from spending more time at the range, I'm thinking of either getting a Crimson Trace laser grip for it or the XS Big Dot sights. A major issue I have with the Big Dot (or any irons for that matter) is that since my gun does not have sights on it from the factory, I'd have to send the gun off somewhere and have somebody cut into the slide to install the sights. Cost + amount of time to order the sight, send it off to somebody and wait for it to return + I'm scared somebody gonna jack my gun up since its not just a simple filing, it involves cutting, deters me greatly. So my next alternative was to just buy some laser grips. Overall cost is much lower. Seems to me that for self defense, it might be even quicker than using irons, as I'll be looking down the gun anyways and having a laser pointing at somebody will just confirm that I'm indeed aiming at the BG and not at some bystander. And I need new grips anyways, so two birds with one stone because I hate the factory grips. Anyone that has experience with the lasers care to chime in?

What exactly is going to take place here? I've never been to any type of shooting event. Could clueless folks like myself get an explanation?

Literature to pass out while OCing
PolePosition replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Aside from some of the more obvious reasons to not OC that were already mentioned here, one big thing that one has to consider is desensitization. The more the public sees OC, the greater the likelihood that they become desensitized to it. The more they are desensitized, the greater the likelihood for a criminal to OC and not draw unnecessary attention to him/herself. The last thing we need is for rampant OC to increase the incidence of gun-related violence, resulting in stricter gun control. While one may argue that if everyone was OCing, everyone would be less likely to commit a crime due to fear of reprisal; in the mind of the criminal, logic and reason is not always there. Currently, OC draws attention because there is either justified or unjustified fear. People are more likely to point out somebody who is OCing to a LEO so that the carrier may be accosted to verify a valid HCP. They are also even more likely to just avoid that person. The public at large typically uses the avoidance approach. If it is already currently rare for somebody that is OCing to be asked to provide proof of HCP, it will be even more rare if OCing was to be made commonplace. A degree of fear and misunderstanding keeps people vigilant. I have an HCP but do not find it prudent to OC in public. -
@Mike - Target shooting and home defense. Why do you suggest against the Mako products? I haven't read a single bad review yet. Even if their spring system is questionable at best (which doesn't seem to be the case at all according to testers), is the AR/M4 style stock not a good choice? @Fujimo - I have the M10-762 Romanian AK-type. Bought it from Bud's Gun Shop. It has the Tapco polymer stock. The stock I feel is perhaps a bit too short (height, not length) or narrow. It pinches my skin and just doesn't rest at a good position. And this is from just holding it. I can imagine its going to hurt when shot because I have red marks from holding it and trying to put it in a good position. In contrast, my AR15 stock (SOPMOD Crane stock) is extremely comfortable. The recoil pad and the whole stock itself is noticeably wider and taller and no matter where I put it, close to the shoulder or close to the chest, it is very comfortable.

After researching different products and reviews, I think I will be getting these: http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/gl-shockcp.htm http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/sbt-k47.htm They are members on AR15.com and I've read different independent blogs (both for shotguns and for AR15s) that have said these products do what they say they will do. One is a recoil reducing stock and the other is a recoil reducing stock tube. You can get one or the other but you can also combine both for double the recoil reduction. I think I will go with the combo route (you have to buy both separately since the kit with the recoil stock tube and stock uses the regular stock). For the Saiga 12, some people say that you might have to enlarge the gas ports with simple drilling, especially for shooting lighter loads if you're having cycling issues.

I just got my AK47 in and it came with a Tapco synthetic stock...I'm a fairly small guy so it is very uncomfortable for me. Maybe it is too narrow or short in height or something. I really like the size of the Crane stock on my AR. It is wide and tall so it gives my small shoulder a lot of pad to press against. Any suggestions?

My Taurus 1911 AR needs a fresh coat of skin
PolePosition replied to Paletiger13's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Ion Plating in Georgia is supposed to be really good as well. Lots of good reviews online. I've knew people locally that have used their services on paintball guns and were very satisfied and one guy did have them cerakote a glock slide iirc. I have no firsthand experience with them though. Georgia Gunsmithing LLC: HOME -
If you have NFA items pre-trust, is there a need to transfer them back to yourself post-trust? You can still continue to possess and use those items since you are separate from the trust. The only person who would need to transfer pre-existing NFA items into a trust would be one that wants to take advantage of the other benefits such as, allowing others in the trust to possess/use those items right. And if you want to leave them to an heir you can just use the Form 5....or am I totally wrong here. I'm thinking of maybe doing a trust in the future (assuming that post-graduation and post-loan repayment that I'll be able to afford more goodies) but I have no intent of transferring my SBR back to myself.
