I JUST got the phone call from the store. TICS is back up. Bout to go pick up my new gat now!

I went into the gun store yesterday to purchase a gun and am waiting for approval also. I hope TICS is back up today so that I can go pick it up

I'm thinking about getting an M&P 9mm as well. I'm debating between getting the 5" Pro model, or getting the 4.25" and just installing the Apex FSS trigger system in it. Anyone have thoughts about that?

I'm thinking compound bow. I looked up Everything Archery. I think I'll swing by there sometime and ask them about a beginner lesson or something. Trying to find alternative shooting sports since I don't want to deplete all my ammo stores haha....not a member of MSSA yet. That initial fee scares me! If I end up getting a bow I'll probably set up a target at my church. The land is a little smaller than a football field, so I shouldn't have to worry about hitting anyone.

Anyone from here from memphis and shoots bows? Ive never shot one before but would like to try. Which archery range is the best one to goto?

First AR: should I buy the whole gun or build from parts?
PolePosition replied to a topic in Long Guns
I think building lowers not only saves on cost but also gives you full customization. Uppers on the other hand, seem to be cheaper to buy a quality pre-assembled one from a reputable vendor. Pretty much any combination you can think of is already sold. You do have freedom to swap out charging handles, bcg's, muzzle brakes, and sights, but buying a complete upper (barrel, receiver, rails, and all their associated small parts) seems to the better deal. Plus most manufacturers test them so at least you know it works. -
I thought it was against Craigslist policy to list firearms...Hope its not some person trying to scam or jack you. Be careful and bring a buddy!

I'm part of the never clean crowd...never had any buildup even remotely close to that shown in the picture. I even dirty up my guns on purpose just to make sure they still function. My thoughts are, if a gun is unreliable when its dirty, then I'm not going to bet my life on it. For that purpose, guns that don't function flawlessly under severe (but not extreme) conditions get sold off. There's no reason to have to clean an unfired gun weekly or biweekly. That gun in the picture is clean except for an isolated extreme dust bunny in the guide rod? Cmon' now. I bet none of us could even re-create that scenario even if we dunked the gun in a bucket of dust and ran it through a tumbler for hours on end.

Where is Patriot Defense Arms? Do they have an actual shop? I was under the impression it was just like an office or something. And how much are their transfers? Classic was the cheapest I've found and it seemed pretty reasonable. I've got 10 AR lowers on order and if I can save more money I'd like to do so.

I'll add my pennies as well. I'm a customer of all 3 of the main gun stores in Memphis (Classic, G&A, and Arms-Fair). I have had both good AND bad experiences at ALL 3...will I shop at all of them again? Of course. Each store has multiple employees and well my take on it is, if I get a bad experience one day, I'll go back next time and get a different guy. Classic - Best place for transfers ($25 + $10 TICS fee). One of the best for standard gunsmithing. Chance is the guy to talk to for AR15 stuff (short with buzz cut). They also have a good selection of rifles and shotguns and one of the guys there is really knowledgeable about trap shooting (referred couple of my trap shooting friends to them and they both made purchases at Classic). They also have a nice collection of some upper end 1911's. They also carry some 1911 small parts as well. I needed some grip screws and the guy who normally sits behind the register (I think he is the owner or the gunsmith) gave me some for a few bucks and didn't even ring me up. The bad part about them is that sometimes they do ignore you. My first time ever there I walked right back out because I was ignored for so long. But I gave them a second chance and have been there multiple times since. I see plenty of satisfied customers there everytime I go. Guns and Ammo - Best place for selection period. If you pay in cash, you get a pretty significant savings since the tax is what lures people to buying online. I've bought countless guns from them. They are a very high volume store, so it does get packed sometimes. They also have a lot of staff. Some suck. Some are good. I personally like the guy who looks like he is in his 40's maybe, with the youngish face and pepper colored hair (used to be light brown but everytime I see him his hair keeps aging haha) and try to pick him whenever I want to buy a gun. And he recognizes me as well. So I like that. Wide selection of ammo but if you want to buy in bulk, buy online or at Sportsman or Bass Pro. Arms-Fair - As others mentioned, they are the only NFA dealer in Memphis. The only staff I like there is Andy (young guy, skinny with short hair). He's nice, very knowledgeable about AR15's, NFA items, Glocks, and 1911's. He is also their gunsmith. Arms-Fair is a very small store and selection sucks. But they do have good prices for the stuff that they do carry. Now, their transfer fees are going to be going up and they do hate doing transfers. Mainly because they aren't making money from that, which is understandable. Most of their income is from gun sales and from gunsmithing. But its not a bad shop and I do use them from time to time solely because of Andy being a nice guy and being a good smith. I believe they are getting a mill soon (or maybe they have one already) and they also have a lathe and sonic cleaner. So if you have needs for those services, they would be the place to go. Hopefully their selection will improve over time. And also they do give military/law enforcement discounts as well (maybe the others do too but I know for a fact that they do at Arms-Fair).

Yea....not sure how much I'd trust that in the event of a zombie apocalypse lol

Best Guitar training method (print or DVD)
PolePosition replied to maroonandwhite's topic in General Chat
Check out John Petrucci's Rock Discipline DVD. It will definitely improve your overall playing, skill, and technique a lot. I haven't used it myself but I know good guitarists that recommend it. -
Have you tried the PMC X-TAC 55gr? I think it is either the same or slightly more expensive than the PMC bronze, but it groups really well for non-match ammo and is also loaded hotter than Bronze. Here's me shooting the X-TAC using irons

Are you interested in Noveske barrels? Wes at MSTN just got a bunch of them in (He has the SS and N4 barrels). I have an N4 16" mid and SS 16" mid from him and love them. He can sell you a matched bolt as well if you need a bolt. He's located in Memphis but ships anywhere. His email addy is wes@mstn.biz

Check this out for comparisons - http://www.ar15.com/...ouand_34__.html I love having a sizeable cheekweld. The LMT SOPMOD (or its new cheaper contract clone, the B5 SOPMOD) is great for this. The VLTOR IMOD/EMOD is also great but because of the seam on the cheekpieces, people with beards complain that it pulls hair. The Magpul ACS is another option as well. Slightly different shape but has more storage, is just as strong as the Vltor and LMT, and has a good cheekweld and is lighter in weight. I'm personally thinking of getting an EMOD or the ACS for my next stock (currently have the LMT) Don't forget about the buffer system. carbine vs heavy weight, etc. Vltor has a new extended buffer tube (called the A5) with a special spring and buffer weight and is GREAT for smooth recoil control. I think it is optimized for 16-20" barrels but somebody else can correct me on that. They just recently released new buffer weights for the shorter barrel options I believe.

Yes they can be emailed and I have had them emailed to local dealers on one or two occasions.

Rick's character is starting to transform. I love it!

I have the Surefire muzzle brake on one of my rifles and have the PRI/MSTN QC brake on my other rifle (this one is still at MSTN, so havent shot it yet). I'm told the PRI/MSTN one is just as good as the Surefire brake and the Surefire brake worked very well last time I took it out shooting. The MSTN is less expensive than both brakes, so if it works as well as the SF, then I'd recommend that over the BattleComp.

Looking for a Reliable gunsmith in the Memphis area.
PolePosition replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
For just sights, I'm told that Classic Arms on Germantown Parkway beside Corky's is the best for that service. I've only used them for their FFL services but I've seen a lot of customers go in there for sight installation. -
Luckyyyyy. I wish I had beta! But I'm playing the game all night when it finally releases thats for sure.

A few months ago, they referred me to Springfield Armory and Nighthawk Customs.
