LOL at the mag sales between yesterday and today. I think most major online vendors have effectively been cleaned out of all 30 round PMag inventories. The panic is definitely in full effect. How do you ban guns when the entire country's inventories are being depleted as we speak?

Possible assault rifle ban
PolePosition replied to flyanything's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
No one knows the exact nature of the ban, but the quickest way, which is what Fox News reported a couple of weeks ago, is for AR's and such to have a different status under the NFA, thereby slowing down the process for purchasing without an outright ban and without Congressional action. With wait times being what it is, if its going to require a tax stamp, expect to wait years for approval for any NFA item =( -
Texas Schoold District to let teachers carry guns
PolePosition replied to c.a.willard's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Glad that TX is taking steps in the right direction. I applaud them also for requiring additional training for the teachers since simply carrying a weapon doesn't mean you'll be able to effectively deploy one when needed. -

Tragedy in China yesterday
PolePosition replied to PolePosition's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
True but is death any less mentally scarring than being severely wounded? These kids were 6-11...who knows what kind of mental damage can be occurred on them or their families having witnessed you and your little friends being stabbed or chopped up by some maniac. It is hard to get guns in China, so instead, they deal with mass stabbings and it has been on the rise for the last couple of years. Thank God nobody died (although some are in the ICU so who knows), but it is nonetheless very tragic and traumatic. -
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/man-attacks-22-kids-knife-china-school-article-1.1220230 Same story as CT, different weapon, and different people group. One thing to note, that regulating guns (America) and regulating large knives (China) has not proven to effectively deter crime. Scumbags are scumbags, no matter what language they speak or weapons they get their hands on.

carry on property owned by a university
PolePosition replied to me04070's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Whenever I visit people that live in campus dorms or apartments (that are owned by the school but not directly on school grounds persay), like the rule above says, I disarm and leave it locked in the car when I exit and pray nobody attacks me. -
http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2012/12/09/hst-bcm-the-jack/ Price is listed there, as well as a video by Travis Haley. The gun is awesome. Just wish it had a BAD lever and an ambi-safety. Since Haley advocated their use (as well as designed the BAD) back in his Magpul Dynamics days, I wonder why he didn't incorporate them into his rifle design. I've never used the BAD but I think for weapons malfunctions, it is pretty valuable to be able to use your right hand to actuate the bolt lock, and after switching to using ambi-safeties, I can't imagine going back.

I'm no James Yeager fan. His personality is a bit abrasive for me. And I don't agree with his video challenge since he's not going to start a fight and risk going to prison, nor is somebody stupid enough to attack this guy in his own home. But I do feel his pain that he is tired of all the BS that people give him over a situation that they were not personally involved in. I've read the entire report, seen the video, and read tons of internet chatter over the guy. Other than being an idiot with putting his car in neutral (who does that?) and other than his training video with the photographer sitting in the line of fire (I wouldn't trust Navy Seals shooting towards me, much less civilians), this guy doesn't deserve all the crap that he gets on the internet. Especially because of a high risk situation that others would have probably behaved the same way or similar in (I would have "gotten off the X" too). So props for the video calling people out, even though if it is in a little bad taste and just potentially adds more fuel to the fire.

I was fortunate enough that my M&P9 full size and M&P9 compact did not have this gritty trigger I keep hearing about. One thing you can try doing, that costs nothing, is to use a fine grit sandpaper and see if you can try polishing the part of the trigger bar where it contacts the sear and where it contacts the striker block, as well as polishing the striker block some. That should help some (and really, a trigger job from a gunsmith does the same thing except they just go a lot more hardcore with the polishing). An option that costs slightly more is the Apex Hard Sear. I've got it on my full size and just ordered one for my compact. I think the trigger is perfect with the sear alone. Some people like to get the springs or the ultimate striker block or ram or whatever other parts, but I'd recommend trying just the sear first and see if you like that before dumping more money into the gun.

I guess I'm kinda behind on the times but just came across reading about the SIG556R recently and was wondering if anyone here has one. Looks pretty enticing to me and Suarez International seems to be a huge supporter of the rifle for their classes. I'm looking toying with the idea of getting another AK so right now its between an Arsenal AK or the SIG556R.

Reminds me of something one of my instructors said in a class I took recently, "Make up in your mind where you draw the line in the sand" regarding when to draw. Implying of course, that it should take a LOT before you actually draw. Another thing he said was, "If you draw on someone, it means that you have put the value of their life equal to or below whatever you want to shoot them for. It's not worth it to end somebody's life over a TV or car or being offended, unless my life or the life of my family is at risk." I think this story goes to show that the problem should be reduced on the front end. People need psych evals before being issued a permit, and I think people need MUCH more training and instruction before being issued a permit. I still remember some of the characters that were in my HCP class years ago. No rational person would have issued them a permit, no matter what the results on the written exam and shooting quals were. Granted, crazy people slip through the cracks all the time. But I'm sure we can greatly reduce these incidents.

Preferred gun safe retailer in Memphis?
PolePosition replied to S&WForty's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I think he meant gun-safe retailer...I'm curious about a local retailer as well. -
I hate the freaking fear mongering. People get worked up into a frenzy and it hurts those of us who can't afford to just sit on 30k rounds of ammo at a time or have 500 magazines loaded to capacity. One thing is for certain though. We will just going to have to train more with headshots (wonder if my local range will left their policy on making headshots on their targets). I think a limitation of arms and ammunition will inevitably lead to one thing, that all of us (criminals included) will become horribly efficient with what we already have. I'd rather be shot with someone spraying and praying than by somebody who has trained to be a one-shot-one-kill ninja (if I had to choose between the two)

Realistically, what are the odds going to be?
PolePosition replied to Tedro2022's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Realistically, there is zero chance of a gun grab. Who is going to vote for it? Who is going to enforce it? There is absolutely no reason to believe this, so people need to quit being paranoid about stupid stuff and start being paranoid about the real stuff. Btw, last time I checked, people have other things that are worth fighting for and worth being vocal about...food, shelter, jobs, healthcare, education, etc. And this is a gun forum. All of us are armed to the teeth and we probably have enough arms and munitions to fight off hordes of liberal zombies. So, if the topic must remain on guns...how bout we discuss black friday sales instead!!! -

Zombie Night at RangeUSA - Oct 26/27
PolePosition replied to S&WForty's topic in Events and Gatherings
The way it worked last year is you have 3 stations: pistol (~5 rounds), ar15 (5 rounds), and shotgun (2 rounds) and you walk to each one and shoot zombies that project onto paper targets in front of you. The whole walkthrough is maybe 1-2 minutes tops and you are only shooting about 12 rounds total. Maybe more if you bring your own weapons, but when I went, everyone just used what was there. Even though there isn't much actual shooting, its pretty fun to go with friends. I went with people that had never shot before and they had a blast (pun intended). They actually wanted to go in for a real range session a few weeks later. So if anything, its a great way to get non-shooters to start shooting. Hopefully this year will have something new/different to mix things up. -
The PMC X-Tac 55gr 5.56mm is one of my favorite to shoot. Where are you finding it for $4.99? I thought they increased their prices a few months ago.

Somebody on AR15.com said they got a phonecall and a half hour conversation. I think his name was crawlin95 or something like that. So they are considering our opinions since they took the time to call somebody. Hopefully they will allow us to carry again. I know that at the particular Malco I goto, the security guard they have posted there doesn't strike me as somebody that could stop an active shooter or even stop any crime for the matter (he's old and overweight. Not to say looks cant be deceiving, but he doesn't strike fear into the hearts of criminals). -

Request for my Memphis area TGO'ers
PolePosition replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I just sent them an email with this: Dear Management, Thank you for your many years of providing the Memphis community with quality movie theaters and movies. The picture and audio quality, cleanliness of the theaters, and comfort of the seats have all augmented my movie-watching experiences. As much as I love going to the movies and patronizing the Malco establishments, particularly the Cordova theater, it is with much regret that I must voice a concern and withdraw my patronage, as well as recommend others do the same, until this concern is remediated. Recently I began noticing signs banning handguns from the Malco premises. While you are certainly within your right to do so, and I certainly see your reasoning in light of recent atrocities such as, the Aurora, Colorado, incident, restrictions such as these only deter law-abiding citizens, not criminals. As a law-abiding citizen with a TN state issued handgun carry permit, I am bound by the law to disarm myself and temporarily suspend my rights in order to comply with your postings if I were to watch a movie in your establishment. Criminals, on the other hand, will not comply with the law. That is why they are criminals. They have no respect for the law. Banning handguns from those with appropriately acquired state licenses forces law-abiding citizens to choose 1 of 3 options: 1) The law-abiding citizen may disarm before entering your movie theaters, thus leaving themselves defenseless and deprived of their right. 2) The law-abiding citizen may decide to break the law and carry their handgun into the theater anyway, thus committing a criminal offense. 3) The law-abiding citizen may no longer patronize the Malco theaters because they neither wish to suspend their right to carry nor violate the law by carrying into the theater. Law-abiding citizens such as, myself, would only rationally choose option 1 or 3. I personally will choose option 3, and will recommend others, including my friends from law enforcement and the military, to do the same, because criminals and criminally minded individuals will invariably choose option 2, thus defeating the purpose of the ban. Depriving law-abiding citizens of their right and privilege to carry handguns to protect themselves and those around them only gives criminals a license to further commit crimes, because they know that there are now less people to stop them. Unless there is an armed guard at every screen and airport- style security checkpoints, there is little one can do to guarantee that no armed criminal can enter any establishment. However, allowing law-abiding citizens to exercise their right and privilege to carry at least gives them the ability to defend themselves if ever necessary. I humbly ask you to please reconsider your stance on carrying handguns, so that law-abiding citizens such as, myself, may once again enjoy watching movies at your theaters. Thank you.
