just go with DI. I am running two DI guns with Nickel Boron(failzero) bolt carrier groups and have never had a single hiccup....piston operation is really not what the ar was designed to operate with and from my limited experience is just a "me too" fad that shall pass. I'm not saying it doesnt work...just that it is unnecessary and with good parts...you will never have an issue...at least I haven't. I had one and it was really reliable, however the recoil on that gun makes follow up shots tricky so I got rid of mine.

I think maybe it would be more helpful if we just had pictures of fellow tgo'ers like a deck of cards that said "do not shoot" ;-D

I think the alpha is a downgrade since it doesnt come with a barrel nut or wrench and uses the existing nut, but time will tell. However if it started to cost less then the TRX extreme, then that would be acceptable. I have a trx rail on my 5.56 and 308 and they have been excellent...can't recommend troy products enough...just am not real enthused about the alpha though.

Just attended this clinic yesterday, learned a lot, and had a heckuva good time. Learned a lot of reloading tips for when im ready, and got to run my SXAR out to 600yds making hits I really didnt think I could make. Got great instruction from Randy (froggyone2), Phil, and the rest of the guys that were there...learned how to operate the pits, and got some good ideas for the next "big" project. Anyone who like me doesnt have any experience in shooting 1/3 of a mile or has only gone and plinked and not had a good spotter and teacher this class is for you. If you have lots of experience at that distance but havent gone to 1,000yds thats whats being covered in the next class and for $25 you will be hard pressed to have more fun. All in all a great time and I highly recommend it (note you do NOT have to be an ORSA member to attend)

I have had one of those on one of my ar's...they are pretty great...functional too.

You assembled the lower yourself correct? Have you tried putting a different upper on top to make sure the bolt catch works right? Start there. Does the gun have a BAD lever installed? if so remove it and see if that helps. If still not working attempt to manipulate it with your hand while empty... Report back to us and we can probably get this worked out quick.
