  1. We had a few hours to kill on Saturday, along with a few boxes of .45acp and .38spl so we went to Gun City USA for a little while. Usually there isn't very many people there which is just fine with me. This weekend though all of the lanes were full except the one on the far left. My son was shooting my Ruger 1911 and paused to look down. He sat the gun down and turned to me pointing at something on the bench. "Did this just fall out of the gun Dad?" He asked. I looked at it, and it was a large piece of lead! I shot the remaining rounds out of the pistol without incident then reinspected the gun. No problems with it that I can tell. A few minutes later he feels something graze his head, and sits the gun down again and says, "Maybe we better not shoot that one anymore." Hmm... I picked it up, unloaded it, and started inspecting again when all of a sudden something strikes me in the gut! I look down and there is copper clinging onto my shirt. It didn't penetrate the shirt or skin but it still stung. Come of find out, the rounds from the guy in the next lane to me was recocheting off of the floor, onto the back wall, and right to us! Needless to say, we enjoy living so we packed up and left. I collected the pieces that had hit us and brought them home. Why? I don't know.... What I do know is that we will not be going back to Gun City USA anymore. The waiting time for a range at the Nashville Armory or Guns and Leather just doesn't seem that bad afterall. Plus, we've never been hit at either one of those places. lol
  2. I have two of them... have one on me right now under a loose shirt. I have both a left and right handed holster from Bianchi 7/7L. Carry ammo is the Federal (something-or-other) Hollowpoints. They feed nicely. Otherwise, it's whatever FMJ round I can find for the range.
  3. Yeah but... I don't have anything that I'd want to trade off!
  4. The one thing that I hate about shooting at the Nashville Armory is the wait time. Not that it's not worth waiting 20-30 minutes to shoot there, but that's 20 - 30 minutes I've got to kill by browsing the gun counter. Last time I ended up buying my LCR-357. Had there not been a backlog of orders for the Glock 42, I would have came home with one of these in my range bag. But why?   I've got the Ruger LCP which is a pretty reliable and very small pistol that can be carried while almost completely naked! (I don't advise that... and I don't want to see any pics!) However, the little Glock 42 is just so steenkin' cute, it's almost like you just got to have one! Of course, a 9mm in the same size would be better and probably on the way in the next year or so, but this one just made me want to pinch its little cheeks. It didn't feel as small as it looked and I have a much better grip on it than either of my Ruger LCP or LC9. But... it's a .380! Do I really need another .380? It would make my third one if, and only if, you can pretend that the Lorcin L380 is an actual weapon. Ammo is scarce too...   I'm going to read some of the initial reports from the people who have already been able to get their hands on one of these little cuties, and see what kind of bugs been to be worked out. One thing I have seen was there were a few FTE's, and Hickok 43 was having trouble with Buffalo Bore ammo. Anyone else? The salesman at Nashville Armory suggested instead of getting put on "the list", to just wait until about April when demand slows down a little more and they can stock them. It will also give me the time to read the reviews about them too...
  5. I've taken it apart before and cleaned it. It's as simple as my GP100 so I've been there and done that several times before. I've decided not to clean it or anything, but to send it to Ruger the way it is. It is still doing it today after sitting all night. Hopefully they'll be able to duplicate my issues.   Thanks for all your advice.
  6. Didn't think of either of those... I'll get it back out later and see. Just it surprises me that it will do it while firing and dry-firing... but a few minutes later it will dry-fire just fine. Almost like something is getting hot?
  7. We shooting today with three new-to-me handguns that I haven't had to chance to shoot. First was a new Glock 19. Gen3. Absolutely wonderful! Tight groups easy to control. The second one was a Glock 30, Gen3 which I got from a member here on trade. Once again, a wonderful firearm! Third was my SP 101. It was pulling a little to the left, even when firing while resting on the bench. Not too bad for a 2 1/4" barrel, but a little more than I was expecting. My S&W 642 is much more accurate. Problem with the SP101 started after about 10-15 rounds. Shooting single or double action, the fourth shot would hang. Meaning that I couldn't pull the hammer back in single action, nor squeeze the trigger in double action. I first though this was build up between the cylinder and the forcing cone, so I wiped it off and tried again. When it happened again, I left pressure on the trigger (while still pointing downrange) and tried to assist the cylinder. The problem wasn't the cylinder, but something inside the trigger mechanism. I can unload the pistol and dry-fire it and it will do it too... but after a few minutes sitting, I can't get it to hang. I was using standard pressure WWB 130gr ammunition, and the pistol is suppose to handle +P ammo... so I'm sure it wasn't an ammo issue. I was planning on giving this one to my mother, as she really liked it when I showed it to her, but now I don't feel right about it. I know Ruger will take care of it, but I was wondering If there was some simple little thing I was overlooking or missing. As far as I know, the pistol is stock other than the wooden grip inserts that I added.     PS: If I send it back to Ruger, should I put the other black plastic grip inserts in? I hear some companies will return it back with all stock items put back in if there has been any mods.
  8. Thank you TDR
  9. C'mon now... you guys must be thinking of the OLD McGavock High School years. McGavock has made a complete turn around in the past four years since Mr. Robin Wall has taken it over as pricipal. My daughter graduated there last May and my son is in his freshman year there now. Mr. Wall has done a great job with the school and the students. My daughter thought the world of him and my son does too. I wish that the high school I attended had a guy like him in charge.   As to why Obama chose it, I'm sure he didn't personally select it himself. I don't know why it was selected, but it's exciting that he's going to be there. Maybe it will help McGavocks school pride continue to grow. It is a Nationally Recognized "MODEL" Academy High School! All thanks to Mr. Wall.
  10. I've always been a revolver guy... but when I started carrying, I had to have a auto, and more specifically, a Ruger LC9. I carry that only sometimes now and find myslef carrying my S&W 642 a whole lot more.   There's no point to this post... but I felt compelled to type it. But, I also think that there are certain guns for certain conditions. I ended up buying my first Glock (17) because one day I went to a store to get something to drink and felt terribly outgunned by the other customers. Not that I knew or thought they had guns, but if something would have happened... my little 642 wasn't going to be of any help. Maybe I was just a little paranoid. Having said that... I now avoid unfamiliar/scary areas of town if I can help it.
  11. Amazon? Isn't that a river somewhere? Why would they send me an e-mail about taxes? I did swim there this year... I promise!
  12. I'll be buying a new tv and sound system once the stb-ex is out of the house. I was thinking that I'd upgrade to a 60" TV and the Bose Cine-Mate GS Series II speakers. (http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/home_theater/simplified_home_theater/cinemate_series_ii/index.jsp). Of course, 1080p!   I know $600 is a bit much for TV speakers, but they sound incredible!   And they're onsale right now! May go ahead and order them.
  13. G30 or G17
  14. Not worried about my kids sneaking in...they're old enough to come and go as they please. You hear about this on the news every now and then... Just used them as an example.
  15. What would you say would be the benefit of one over the other? Me, I'm going to say the light would be more beneficial to me. I can't understand where only seeing your sites would be on any benefit if you can't identify your target. I'd hate to shoot one the kids sneaking in, sometime in the middle of the night as you hear about ever so often.   What about you?

    New pistol

I just got another G30 last week... just like the one I already had. I'm looking for a double bandolier type holster for them, just for the fun of it. Now, I'm thinking the G19 feels a little lonely. Of course, I'm kidding... but then again, you never know. After my G17, I thought I had all the Glock that I needed. <sigh>
  17. Nice addition to the family! Good looking pet.

    Two Glocks?... yeah, right.

    New pistol

And crazy large, but for my hands the guns melted into my grip.   RC3, you did well in choosing the G17 other than you may have started something there. Glocks are addictive! My addiction started with the G17 as well cause it's a GREAT shooting pistol. Enjoy.

    New pistol

Wows... no one mentioned the Ruger P-95DC? Can had way less than $450, and one heck of a pistol. Spend the rest of the money on ammunition.
  21. Sucks... I quit going to Goodmans when the Fairgrounds started charging for parking. Not really Goodman's fault, but their show wasn't the 8 bucks they were charging either. Can't make any decent deals going in $21.00 in the hole just getting in the door. (I usually take my son with me)
  22. Just curious as to why we don't have a "Free Classifieds" sections that are available to non-benefactors? I understand not allowing non-benefactors posting privileges to the other classifieds, but sometimes I have stuff that I need to get rid of that I am willing to give away. It would be nice to be able to post these freebies in the classifieds for the member here to take advantage of.   Just a suggestion, as I'm still happy and understand the work involved in keeping these forums spam-free and running properly.
  23. Oh... G29! Trying to pretend that one doesn't exist! 10mm's of pure fury! Hopefully I can keep this addiction down to the 9mm's and 45's. For the longest time, .357mag was my favorite round... but the .45acp has taken its' place.
