Sorry, I don't have any guns. I just hang out here to look like I'm one of the cool kids.

Review: Urban Carry's New Holster
charlessummers replied to Pete123's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thanks for this... I was looking for an un-bias review and all I could find so far were reviews from Urban Carry. Think I'll look more closely now. -
Simple answer is no. It is an easy part to replace and usually inexpensive. Lee Co. will charge you triple for the part, then tack on their labor and trip charges. Best thing to do if your worried about it is go to Johnstone Supply in Nashville and pick one up and install it yourself. Be sure to kill the power to the unit first, of course. I don't think I'd be worried... I've also never known of a way to "test" the whatever rating that he reported. Usually, we'd just use an ohm meter to see if they were acting right and carry on.

Thanks... I'll see if I can find some original walnut one, but in the meantime keep these on it. I need to go shoot this thing! Maybe if we don't get the snow this weekend?

I picked this Colt up today for I consider a very nice price, but the grips do not seem right. The Colt site do seem to indicate that they did ship with smooth Walnut grips, but I'm no wood expert and have no idea from a pine to an oak. If they're not the originals, I'll probably pick up a set of repro's but still hang on to these. No telling when they were made or how long they've been on the pistol but the screws seem to indicate a LONG time. Serial number dates this back to 1935. Any Colt experts around here that can help me out with identifying these grips??? Thanks in advance. No... the serial number isn't 3939. It's 3939XX for safety sake.

My first revolver was the Taurus M66. Love it and carried it everywhere I went, even though I didn't have a HCP... but that was back in the early 90's/late 80's. Wished I still had it.

I bought the Ruger. Why? I guess familiarity of the name, and knowing that if anything happened that they'd make it right. Did I need one? No... but there was something about it that told me that I did. First, it's an American original. You gotta love John Browning. Secondly, the .45acp ball was made specially to be fired from this gun, which is all that it will ever see. I didn't buy mine to be a carry gun, a range toy, competition gun, nor a show piece. I bought a 1911 mere because of it being an American thing. (Plus I LOVE the .45acp round) When I want to carry a .45, I carry one of my Glocks! Ie Guess my point here is... I wasn't going to pay a premium to say that I own a 1911. I wanted something affordable and reliable. So far, the Ruger hasn't let me down. It plays as nicely as anything else I own when I take it to the range... and was priced just right.

I gotta ask... why are they NOT called zombies? Walkers, Biters, Crawlers, but never zombies...

^ That's the one I have... in OD.

Having one, or wearing one? I collect Nazi war items and no one has ever bashed me for them. I've even displayed them during one of our Veteran Day events that we had along with other displays. As far as the Deaths Head Ring, I've seen them, but not enough to tell a good one from a bad one. The counterfeit market for these (Nazi) items is crazy. This is a VERY old page of mine showing some of the stuff that I've collected. I really need to update it as I've acquired a few more items since them. http://home.comcast.net/~charles_summers/site/?/home/

Since I carry on the right, I fear of exposing my firearm while reaching for my license. Haven't been pulled over "yet", but I've rehearsed what I'm going to say/do when that happens. I would hate to be reaching for my wallet and another officer from the passenger side spot my firearm and think I was reaching for it instead. So yeah... all windows down, radio off, lights on, hands on the wheel at 10 and 2 until the officer reaches the truck. Then I'm going to mention that I'm legally armed and let him know where my firearm is. He can tell me how to handle it from there. Not that I'm scared of the police... but if I were in his shoes, that's how I'd want it to happen. They never know who their approaching... and it's my job to make them at ease with me.

Just have to ask since I have a daughter that is 19... since you can legally purchase a handgun at 18, would she be able to have one in the car she drives? The car is titled in my name, so legally the car is mine, but she would be in legal possession of the car. If there was a handgun in the car, wonder what would happen?

Well... I wouldn't consider myself on their "friends" list, but did take my HCP class there and used their range pretty often until I started shooting at Nashville Armory. The older man there was quite a nice guy once you got to talking to him. He showed me a lot of stuff concerning the firearms that I already had. The instructor for the HCP class was also a pretty nice guy. He knew how to teach, and lead a class. When I showed him my .38 speclal that I intended on shooting for my class, he convinced me to use one of their Glock 17s and I scored MUCH better with that than I would have with the revolver. (BTW: The revolver is an awesome shooter now that I know what the hell I'm doing with it :)) I would buy some ammo and supplies there from time to time... even though their prices were a little higher. I always figured that once I included shipping charges with any online purchased, it would equal out the about the same anyway... and without the wait. I guess now that I'm divorced and really have no reason to escape the in-laws house not too far from there... I won't miss them entirely, but at least I never got ricocheted on at their range like I did at Gun City, USA (Why is that place still open??). Plus, he never charged me for my son when I would bring him along.

Anyone know anything about this place opening up in Belle Meade... almost behind the Krystal retaurant? Never noticed it there before today, and the sign on the door says Opening Soon.

I had both, and still have the S&W 642 if that tells you anything. It fits better in the pocket and the grips are smoother and less sticky than the Rugers grip. Hands down winner for me with the S&W. Having said that... as you can see by my avatar that I love my Rugers... I just couldn't like the LCR as much as I tried to. My 642 was the alloy version and it's an incredible firearm. I carried it exclusively until my mother decided she needed a pistol. I gave her one of my favorites!

Recommend a rod and reel....
charlessummers replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Hunting and Fishing
You're in Davidson County, all you need is the regular fishing license to fish anywhere in the state, unless you are fishing for Trout. Private property is of course off limits without permission. As far as gear, I'd start out with the Bass Pro stuff. It's actually very nice gear and I have several of their rods that surpass my most expensive stuff. With a baitcaster, you'll need a LOT of practice but it's not as hard as most people think. I use 12# mono on mine, and save the 10# and under for spinning. If you buy a baitcaster, practice with a heavier line to begin with so it wont make it impossible to untangle the bird nests. As far as lures/tackle... Start with the basic colors of white, yellow, and greens. I've had good times with spinnerbaits in most of the lakes, but I LOVE fishing plastics! Small crankbaits are good sometimes, and of course the time of year and weather will dictate which baits to use. That challenge is what I loved the most about fishing for Bass... -
Don't even look at the .45acps... they're very addictive and seem to spawn on their own.

Nice trade!

Dude... Glocks SUCK! (My bank account dry) I love my G30 so much I bought another. They protect my G19 and my G17, and I have one on my hip as I type this.
-
Never shot the M&P22, but the Ruger SR22 has been very reliable for me. I bought it for my daughter, but you know who shoot it more often. It's plenty enough accurate too.
-
I did 4.5gr with Unique. Shot just fine.

I carry either a G19, SP101, or G30... so carrying this thing wasn't exactly in my original post. Sure, it's small and cute and would be sweet as Hell to carry, but I doubt that is what I'd do unless I was wearing my shorty-short and tank top. (Not really something you'd want to see) I think I've been drinking the Glock Kool-Aid and just gotta have this thing. It's almost May now and they still are not in stock on the shelves, so that tell me that I'm not the only one. As far as caliber, the .380 still beats the rocks. I just want to shoot it, and enjoy it. Just like all off those .38spls that I have.

Yeah, I mentioned it to the guy that's always there. He was busy with more shooters and told them to make sure their targets were all the back out. Didn't show him the pieces as they were buried in my range bag with my spent brass at the time. Should have though... -
