  1. This bit is important:             [The [threat] [use] of force against another is not justified if the defendant provoked the [deceased's] [alleged victim's] [use] [attempted use] of unlawful force, unless the defendant abandoned the encounter or clearly communicated to the [deceased] [alleged victim] the intent to do so, and the [deceased] [alleged victim] nevertheless [continued] [attempted] to use unlawful force against the defendant.]
  2. There may be a better source than this, but this will give you the idea: http://www.tncrimlaw.com/TPI_Crim/40_06.htm
  3. I was skiddish about condition 1 at first. Especially with a 1911. I just didn't understand the mechanics well enough. UNLOAD AND CLEAR YOUR PISTOL. REPEAT Now practice drawing and reholstering your pistol a few thousand times and see what you would have to do to have an AD. Use a real holster. Learn to keep your trigger finger indexed and straight. Know your safety (if you have one). I did all of the above and find it hard to believe that any one with good safety fundamentals and proper equipment and handling can end up with an AD that isn't at least pointing in a safe direction.
  4. Unload/clear your pistol and test your holster retention. Short of doing handstand push-ups (and even THAT was mostly ok), I had a hard time getting my Glock 17 to fall out of my IWB. You want to make sure kids can't grab it out of the holster. But 'bumping' a Glock won't make it fire.
  5. You guys kidding? That would be fun. The news people don't have a clue as to what comes out of the barrel... Pain is a better teacher. Funny how different people act even when there is a little risk added. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iw4ft1L5a3U
  6. No need to freak...sounds like they are standardizing to smaller targets so smaller ranges can be used. Small target up close = large target farther away
  7. [quote name='jwinter' timestamp='1352636958' post='843649'] I did not realize you could swap the barrels on the lower end guns like these. I guess I figured that was only on higher end specialty guns. Now I am really interested in one. [/quote] Research this A LOT BEFORE PURCHASING! Some Mossbergs interchange with some parts. Certain barrel lengths are incompatible due to the Feed tube length, how the barells are mountedetc... Some Forends are mounted differently than others and require exa parts than can be hard to locate. Guess how I found out
  8. For a "house gun" the best deal I found was a 20" Mossberg 500 8rd Bead sight. I put a snap on Fiber Optic sight on it. Cheap and works great. I like the additional capacity over the 18" models. I got 12 gauge as it doesn't seem like to much power for me to control. And NO to the "just point it in the general direction" theory. At in-house ranges, there is very little spread going on. You have to aim. I wouldn't recommend Pistol grips either. You don't need a rifled slug barrel or Rifle sights either (for a house gun). I would have gone even cheaper out and got a Maverick, but I couldn't find the 8rd 20" in stock at the time.
  9. If my firearm has a safety, I use it and PRACTICE using it. You don't want to need your firearm in a hurry and fumble around wondering if the safety is on or not. My current pistol doesn't have one....but my rifles and shotgun do.
  10. HEST and Izula II for me. They are excellent. The HEST for me was a little bulky for EDC. The little glass breaker "Beak" on the handle got in my way. Very nice knives though. I would encourage you to stay within the legal blade length. If you give some one a reason to care how long your knife is, you'll wish you had.
  11. There's also plenty of truth in there too. Problem is they are jumping to a pretty far conclusion from the 'test'. Think about the people you see at the Range and in your CCW class. Now think about them in the front of row of an Active Shooter scenario. Most of them will do worse than the people in the video.
  12. What holster did you try? While I don't think anything will be COMFORTABLE in the truest sense of the word, your belt and holster choice matter for sure. As noted above, you want a leather barrier and two supports to spread the load. AND A GOOD BELT. I have a Stiff Wilderness Instructor Belt that makes a big difference as it even further distributes the load. I found that with a good belt, I didn't have to tighten it as much. And I carry a full size....Glock 17
  13. If you are looking in Nashville: www.eastnashvillemartialarts.com Just keep in mind that martial arts skills are 'perishable'.
  14. You aren't a Police Officer. They have the options of Baton, Spray, Taser for CONTROL and not defense.
  15. Glock 17 I alternate between bag carry and IWB with a www.shieldedholsters.com at about 4:00 Works under a T Shirt as long as it isn't tight.
  16. Please follow up if you get more info. I doubt that a DMV employee can "confiscate" anything.
  17. If you're going to OC then you have to pay extra attention. But even if you do, it's not like they're going to call 911 (unless you refuse to leave)
  18. I had a house like that next door. Grandma paid the bills and the relatives sold drugs. I made friends with my local LEO. A Detective actually gave me his cell number so I could call him directly when things were going on. Problem solved and I didn't have to shoot anyone.
  19. The best Self Defense insurance is between your ears
  20. Dunno..... Having prepaid legal in case you have a SD Shooting seems like a sucker product to me. And can you imagine how THAT would have played in the news in the Trayvon case? But to the original topic, you can be cooperative without giving a full statement. No LEO would hold it against you (none that I know anyway). They would do the same
  21. Concealed? Difficult to hide a horizontal with a long handle That said, Mike Sastre does GREAT work with Kydex. Best fit I have ever seen anyway
  22. I'm not sure what the timing was like... had his car been started he could have just floored it and taken off while laying on his horn. "Condition Orange" for sure when loading gear out of a Bar at midnight.
