Another Walmart Story - Collierville,TN
EastHipster replied to maroonandwhite's topic in General Chat
Ok...to belabor the point... PrecisionOne Reload 9mm FMJ with shipping is about $300 per 1,000 Walmart Federal (Factory) 9mm 115gr FMJ would be about $240 per 1,000 including Tax Even if I have to drive to 3 different stores to find 1,000 rounds I only have to drive maybe 30 miles round trip. BUT I don't have to buy 1,000 rounds to get that price. To me, paying $60 extra for reloads and having to wait for delivery isn't minimal. But if I'm at a local range and they had comparable ammo for $12 or $13 I would just buy it there but I'm not seeing that. -

Robert, Tell us where you shop. I'll go there. The Alternative is to order bulk online which also doesn't support local stores. Walmart has Federal 45acp FMJ for usually around $16 I think I got Winchester JHP 45 for like $22 fed FMJ 9mm for $10.99 Federal .22 for $16 for 550 rounds. Tula .223 for $5-$6 Then there's the bulk Birdshot..... To match those prices online you generally have to order 1000 rounds at a time. I go to Guns and Leather quite a bit. Have bought several guns there. Took my HCP class there. Use their ranges, go to their Gunsmith, have bought several holsters there. But the ammo price and selection is not good. Their Greenbriar store does have not too bad pricing on bulk .223 -

I'm all for supporting my local gun store but I am NOT going to pay 50% to 100% more for Ammo that is equally crappy and often more crappy than Walmart bulk. Buying ammo at Walmart is always a pain. The guy with the key is always on break. I will say though that at the Rivergate Walmart the manager was VERY apologetic and talking to the employees in front of me about how they can fix it. I hop between Dickerson, Rivergate and Hendersonville for Ammo. Hendersonville is consistently easier to find help. -
The Gun doesn't "reign" anything. The Shooter does

Get the one that shoots the best (usually larger) that you will carry (usually smaller) in the largest caliber you can control and that you will PRACTICE with. I carry a Glock 17.

You will likely find that the 1911 is easier to hide. Have a good stiff belt. But you will also likely find that you might have to tinker with the RIA to get it reliable with JHP. Or you might get lucky and it will be fine. You WILL find that you can shoot more accurately/quickly than with the G27 (maybe not but I will be surprised of you don't). I like both.

This story makes my blood boil!
EastHipster replied to Volphin's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If the Burglar was running TOWARDS him and he fired a warning shot he would have likely been ok. Shooting just to get someone's attention is going to get you in trouble. -
Respectfully disagree. We have gun dealers shooting themselves at Gun Shows, Police Firearms instructors shooting students, the recent guy that had an ND in a Church closet.

I have owned Remora for several guns. I like them for small pistols but not large frames. Supertuck Alternatives: Galco KingTuck My current holster: www.shieldedholsters.com Carry a Glock 17 in it. Totally happy. Getting Kydex clips for it. Probably won't last as long but the metal clips can scratch things up. I wear a Wilderness Instructor Belt with it (reinforced).

I'll have to start working out....I have a Pump If I can scare up enough carriers I will try to make it! My pump is 7+1 Cylinder Choke. Will I be able to knock down the poppers? -
Cool look? Who are you showing it to? I have a G17 The ugliest most unsexy gun ever. Goes bang every time. Not finicky with Ammo. Mags and accessories and parts are everywhere and parts are cheap. With better sights (for me Dawson) and I just changed out my trigger (Glocktriggers Skimmer) it is an excellent pistol. Mine is a '95 police trade-in. Looks like crap, shoots great But the G17 feels great in my hands. Pro shooters have reasonably demonstrated that you can make a Glock DANCE if you know what you are doing. All that said.... I like 1911's Cool, solid, easy to shoot. Must be tuned...can be finicky with ammo, more expensive

Any one know where I can get a Slide Stop for a Gen 2 Glock 17 in Nashville? Eastside Guns didn't have one. I have a '95 G17 and just started getting failure to slidelock on the last shot. Have already picked up some new mags and replaced the recoil spring. I COULD be riding the stop a little but I don't think it is me. The Stop looks original....

Don't lump Ruger into The Mall Ninja category. The "Tactical 22" gets used by lots of 3 Gun guys for training. The 10-22 can be seriously upgraded making it a fine Rifle. I have the "non tactical" Mossberg .22 and it is a nice cheap rifle. However....sandwiched in a plastic Clamshell that looks like an AR? Nah. All that said, in a survival crisis I would be very happy if ONE of my Guns was a .22 Rifle.

Realistic AR-15 expectations? Range Report...picture heavy
EastHipster replied to Parrothead's topic in Long Guns
I think there is an Appleseed in Manchester sometime in March maybe. I'm going. You were probably not getting a consistent sight picture with groups that large. Getting a repeatable hold/sight/trigger pull and you would have been much tighter. Read the Army manual on "how to shoot the M1 Garand". I found it to be helpful. There is also an old army training video available online as well as a more modern USMC Marksmanship manual. -
Stones River Hunter Education Center?

Ooh...thanks for the rapid fire warning. I never shoot faster than I can hit but I don't always shoot slowly. -
OK..... EDIT I know...it's a CLASSIFIER new forum won't let me edit the subject from my iPhone! I think I can actually COME to this one. (Wife cleared too...) Hoping that this is the first of many. This will be my first shooting event. Do new shooters need to come early? IDPA Qualifier doesn't use a Cover Garment correct? Looking forward to it. Any side matches going on? EH

Burglars shot in East Nashville this morning

Burglars shot in East Nashville this morning

Sounded to me like he chased them down, subdued one and forced him back to the house. That's the part I wonder about. Second guy returned in the truck to help the one that was caught. That seems like a good reason to be defensive.
