Good tips all the way around. What I NEED to do is go out and shoot a couple AR's so I know from experience what I prefer. I'll have to see if I can bum some trigger squeezes off the guys at CHMR next time I'm there. -a

Hmm... still not positive what I want... I looked into the Stag Arms and it looks like I'd be around $1k for my first AR, a little steeper than I was wanting... I wonder if I could/should build my AR with a Stag Upper.... Would that have the lefty mag release and forward assist?

Anyone hear anything about the woman shot in Green Hills (Nashville) today? I'm just learning about this tonight. My wife works at the Whole Foods there. :-/

So, I finally feel like I am squared away when it comes to handguns... I'm positive that will change, but in the meantime I can dream about moving onto getting long guns. Here's my question: I am a lefty, I've been researching AR's and really am digging some Del Tons as well as some DPMSs, looking mostly at Sub 700$ guns as starters that I can tinker with as I go. Don't have a huge budget, and the money comes slowly as a freelancer... It seems that unless I want to buy a specialized "lefty" AR I'm going to deal with inconveniently placed controls for my particular disposition as well as gases being blown into my face and all sorts of other things that seem super enjoyable and fun to me. Now AK's seem interesting to me, particularly a Saiga in .308 that I fuss with for a bit, then convert to an AK when time and cash allow. This seems like it would be a little more ergonomic for me, large bolt on the right side, and a central mag release. Not to mention being able to convert it into a really great firearm myself with some elbow grease and wrenching would give me a really great sense of ownership over the gun... Just a thought. I should say that I have never fired either, never had the opportunity... So anything I am saying is coming from armchair speculation. Thoughts?

Yeah I really like that it has a 4" barrel and not a 3.5"... Grip is still nicely and small, fits my hand great.

M&P45c, I hear they're pretty hard to find right now. Awaiting my kydex scabbard from White Hat Holster... anyone else shoot one of these?? I put about 40 rounds through it the other day, REALLY smooth .45 crazy accurate as well. I dig.

I just bought one myself from Nashville Sporting Arms (great guys) and I'm pumped to try it out. Always loved the .45 ACP.

I'd go with 9mm too. Easier/cheaper to train with, and if you get a decent flavor hollowpoint you'll have no problem stopping the threat.

I'm looking for a mix of the two honestly.

This might be the wrong forum but I'll give it a shot. I've been watching Magpul's Art of the Dynamic Handgun and I really want to be able to run some run'n gun courses and practice some force on force handgun drills, and maybe setup some steel plate targets. Is there a range or location relatively near Nashville where I can do that? I usually shoot at Charlie Hafner's but I don't see tactical shotgun drills going down well in the pistol pit. Any suggestions?? -a

I really love my CM9, carry it probably 60% of the time, the other 40% is split between my Glock 26 and my PPQ.

My first handgun ever was a Ruger P95...I quickly realized I had underbought what my new addiction demanded. I hope you're ready for what comes AFTER you buy your first handgun... but anyway I digress, after the P95 followed a Ruger LCP for carry, which I sold for a Kel Tec PF9, which I discovered I hated. After the PF9 I bought a Kahr CM9...this is in my opinion one of the best values for a carry gun (my opinion) I still have the CM9. Simultaneously as the exchanges I just described I traded my P95 for a XD9sc, which I later traded for a M&P9, and which was traded for a SP101 in .357mag, which was JUST traded for a 12g Benelli... Sprinkled in there I also bought a Metro Arms 1911, sold it for a Glock 26 which I still have, and a buddy bought me a Walther PPQ as payment for a favor... So my collection over the last year has gone through 10 different brands/styles/types of firearms... I share this drawn out story because I want to highlight that it's okay to buy your first gun and then turn around and try something new. Guns tend to retain their value, if you sell to one of us, you'll be able to try many different guns if you want. XD's are great...so are M&P's... Glocks work better for me, and the PPQ is probably the best out there...for me. So there, if you wanted my recommendation get a PPQ in whatever flavor (9mm or 40SW) you choose.

Just though I'd give you guys an update, I am the proud owner of a new Benelli Nova Pump, 18.5 Barrel 4+1 capacity. I know, I know, it's not the Remmy or the Mossy I was talking about... but I traded for it, and it worked out really well. Thanks to the guys over at D&T Arms, my favorite gunshop, by far.

I think the CZ is probably a nicer gun. Had the opportunity to shoot the bersa few days back...kinda meh to me.

Yeah I believe I was having two problems, loading the rounds a little light, and having the OAL set too long. So, I wasn't gaining any pressure with seating depth. I was having slide locking back issues, as well as feeding issues. I believe I'll easily be able to correct that next time around.
