Getting started in competitive shooting

Yeah, you had 2 TGOers in your group and didn't even know it. Do you have everything you need for IDPA? -
Great thread title! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1vYj0E2Hr0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Israeli strike on moving target, populated area
BrasilNuts replied to Sam1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Seems with our level of government efficiency, we could "accidentally" let a nuke slip into one of their resupply orders.
I think they already have enough of those to take care of business. Edit: On second thought, can you ever have enough nukes? -
I used to do some business in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We would often use a bank for transactions. It is a neutral secure location for both parties. I would talk to the bank manager (if I had an account there) and tell him what I wanted to do, he may offer you the use of a meeting room or another private area. As far as counterfeit items go, specific gravity would be your best bet. Found this about a small SG rig. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=39666 Another option is acid testing. Some of the best advice I ever got was, if you want to be able to spot a counterfeit, know the real thing.

Getting started in competitive shooting
BrasilNuts replied to jwinter's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
IDPA: Pistol 9mm or larger 3 mags 2 mag carriers Cover shirt/jacket A good gun belt (available at Greens Military in Knoxville) Safe attitude USPSA: Pistol 9mm or larger All the mags you own (5 17 rounders for me) All the mag carriers you can fit on your belt (3 for me) Safe attitude Skeet: A double barrel, pump or semi auto shotgun Shells 7 1/2 or 8 shot Safe attitude For 3 gun I really can't say, but ORSA in Oak Ridge will be having a USPSA match next Saturday,17th, and a 3 gun match on Sunday. You are more than welcome to come and watch. You will need safety glasses and hearing protection for any competition. Edit: The best way to get started is to grab your gear and show up. If there is anything you don't have people will help you. The thing I tell all first time shooters is, above all else concentrate on being safe. -
Wanted to share this great quip from Sam Adams

I have read and listened to a lot of people say that the republican party lost the election because women didn't like their stance on abortion or Hispanics didn't like their stance on immigration or blacks didn't like their stance on whatever.... In my opinion Romney lost because of the 58169279 people that cast a vote for him most of them weren't voting for Romney, but against Obama. If the republican party starts moving farther to the left to try and gain votes... watch out your 2A rights just might be one of the things they compromise on. The republican party is clueless. I used to wear tucked in shirts to church, but when I started to carry I saw that my wardrobe was going to have to change. Now I carry OWB with a nice shirt untucked over it. (think Charlie Sheen in 2 1/2 Men) It is very comfortable, makes for a pretty quick draw and as far as I know I have never been made. I wanted to see just what I could get away with dressing like this so I went to a get together at a friend house a while back, most everyone there was a gun guy, wearing all the gear I had concealed. Towards the end of the night I got my friends attention and lifted my shirt. I had my Glock 17 with 3 extra OWB mags and 3 30 round AR mags OWB. They couldn't believe I had been there all night and no one had noticed I had all that. As far as the Yankee goes I think if I ever have any one come at me like that and few polite words doesn't make him back off I will threaten to call the police and if the threat doesn't work I'll call.

Roughly how old was the man that confronted you?
-
I used to carry in a IWB tuckable holster but I figured that in the event that I need the weapon it probably woun't be in the middle of church and if it's in a tuckable holster with my shirt tucked in it would take more time to reveal and draw so I just stopped and started leaving it in my car.
Well, here's what I would do. Lets try a little test. Wear your gun IWB tuckable holster and time your draw. Then... Put your gun in your car trunk and time your retrieval. Whichever one is the fastest is what I'd go with.

UN ARMS TREATY AGAIN ALREADY?!?!?!
BrasilNuts replied to jaxjohn419's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Ask that genius Albert Gore Jr. what happens when a 6 term Tennessee Senator votes for a gun prohibition (...think the Gun control act of 1968...) initiative. leroy
If another AWB is passed, I don't think getting voted out of office should be their concern. This may very well be the straw that breaks the camels back. -
ORSA is going to be your best bet. Join the club, participate in an action pistol match, which will make you a member of the action pistol club. Then you can go to the AP range, get a bay and train like you want. There are certain rules at the AP range (target type etc..) but you'll be able to shoot without having someone standing over you. I shoot IDPA, USPSA and Steel Challenge at ORSA. If you are in town one weekend come out and shoot with us.

"Nothing pisses you off more than a bathroom without a place to put your gun." Nailed me with that one.

It's a lot of fun and you'll meet some great people. -
I early voted. My wife received her US citizenship a few months ago and today was able to vote for the first time here in the US. She said that everyone clapped when she cast her ballot.

Anybody know if it's IDPA legal?

I Raff out Roud!
