  1. I use to love to read Massad Ayoobs actual cop shootout after action reviews in American Handgunner. It showed me that all kinds of rounds may or may not stop an opponent. Every situation and individual is different.   As far as throwing the little .25 auto under the bus, hmmm, 50gr FMJ going 800+ FPS ... I would not want to get hit anywhere in the skull with it!     BTW, has anyone priced a box of .25 lately, if you can find them, that's the biggest reason I see to not owning one!  :pleased:   While I agree with being prepared to defend one's self, the reality is 99% of those on this forum will never pull a trigger in defense, and God willing, you better hope that to be true. I personally would not want to pull the trigger on another human being. Your life would never be the same in more ways then one. Would I defend myself or family in an armed confrontation? Darn right, but I pray to never see that day in my lifetime.
  2. What Garufa said ... I had water back up into my bathtub drains, after living in the house for two years. Had the septic tank pumped out, the guy said it probably hadn't been pumped in the last dozen years at least by the previous owners. Took care of the problem.
  3. Every time I run across a few paper shells, I try to shoot them, usually squirrel hunting. I say "try" because if they're really old with any corrosion, sometimes you just hear "click" and that's it. You'll have a good firing pin punch on the primer with no bang...then I toss those.    I've tried to research anyone giving anything for paper shells and just don't see the any value to them. I even have a few old colorful boxes from Remington and Peters and tried to get a few bucks out of them here on TGO a couple years back with no bites, so I set them on my book shelf. Who knows, maybe in another 50 years my grandsons can get $15 or $20 bucks out of them...lol.  :pleased:
  4. I always shoot them through the rib cage (lung shot). A big target and they don't go far and you won't lose meat (no meat on the ribs to speak of).   I'm with Jay, expanding bullet = dead deer. I like Nosler Ballistic Tips.
  5. All it takes is money... lol. I read somewhere that it took about $5 mil. to build the US Shooting Academy in Tulsa.
  6. Wish they'd have it in TN, I'd go to that one...lol.
  7. Randall,   I see you live in Hixon ... and that's close to Woods Reservoir. And that's a GREAT weekday lake to fish! My older brother (who's also retired ) and I fish Woods at least a half dozen times a year. A great striper and crappie lake.
  8. It takes awhile but you'll adjust and love it.   I retired in 2010 and at first, kept thinking I had to use vacation time to do any trips...lol. But 4 years+ into it, I realize that life without a schedule is paradise! I'm so busy now doing anything and everything, I sometimes wonder how the heck I ever had time to work. The best part is fishing during the weekdays ... nobody there except an occassional fellow retiree :pleased:
  9.   I'll pass on that outfit. I'd hate to get confused with some of those ISIS folks. They've been on the receiving end of BAD TO THE BONE lately. :pleased:
  10. I'd be interested. I put together a target 10/22 a couple years back that only sits collecting dust.
  11. Ah ha ... I believe I got mixed up with OUTLAW as in "we don't need no stinkin' badges," ... lol ... it does sounds like some good trigger time. Guess I'll have to look at my weekend commitments.
  12. Single stack? So is there a round limit, or could you have like a two foot long single stack hanging out the butt that held 50 shots? :squint:
  13. I forgot John ... is there a CDP class for steel, or is it all one class?
  14. Those are fun guns ... especially with shorts!
  15. +1 for the Thermacell, liked the first one so much, bought a second (to keep in the boat) and the lantern for the back porch. Got their "holster" for the hand-held they make to wear it on my belt. Deer have never seemed to notice it.
  16. Those Handi rifles are such a bargain for what you pay vs what you get. I bought an Anshutz .17hmr, my buddy bought a CZ .17hmr... both tack drivers. My buddy then bought a Handi 17hmr for his son and to our surprise, it grouped just as tight as both the Anshutz and the CZ.   That K-hornet is going to be cool. The couple people I've actually known to do the K conversion were always glad they did.
  17. Already signed up and ready to sling some fat bullets.   How many entries so far?
  18. I'd keep it gun porn only, IMO. It is, after all ... TGO. :pleased:
  19.   Good point Hoz ... for me personally, I'll probably always be on the defensive posture among strangers, especially when they have more firepower slung across their shoulder than I do tucked in my waistband. :pleased:
  20.   Maybe not crucify him but I can understand why most folks would be a bit rattled over this guy, or any of those idiots in Texas too. If I saw someone walking in the middle of town with a shouldered AR, red flags would certainly go up. I don't know what this person's intentions are. It is, after all, a new crazy society we live in. Our Mayberry way of life is long gone. Just watch the Nashville local news and see what happens DAILY.
  21. I've got an Ithaca 49 single shot with an 18" barrel that I shoot the heck out of Super Colibris through. They're accurate and sound "suppressed"...really nice for "back yard safaris."   I've shot the regular Colibri through the Ithaca as well, but it wasn't planned, just got a box in the mix of the Supers. Probably shot a half dozen before I thought, "gee, these seem quieter." lol
  22. +1 to that   My dad killed deer for 40 years with his 35 cal. 336. Those 200 grain thumpers smack 'em down good.   If you don't have a reload set-up, find a buddy who does and just buy him a set of dies and talk real nice to him to load you up some rounds. A case of beer can be a deal breaker :pleased:
  23. They showed a hole in the drywall, looked pretty big for a .22.   One round supposedly passed through the outer wall  of one home and lodged into the opposite wall of the living room. That was in a Mt Juliet newspaper. Almost sounds like FMJ bullets to travel that far and still penetrate like that.
  24. Looks like some dummy doesn't understand how far a bullet flies or what an adequate backstop is.   It also cracks me up how the media mentions that it could be hunters. Yeah, a hunter shot at game in one direction, in the air, with a rifle, that happened to be in line with 7 houses in a neighborhood.   http://www.wsmv.com/story/26351431/homes-in-mt-juliet-neighborhood-hit-by-stray-bullets
