@Lester I agree it is a very interesting subject. The boy turned out to be quite intelligent and so far hasn't developed any habits involving flies and wings ;) so we are hopeful! Hadn't thought about the absence of stress being a bad thing. Like with most things, Life finds a way. So if some stress is around, might as well make it useful... Oh yea...what chances R (and others) said above as well. Why take the chance?

Somewhere I ran across the advice to crush them, then immerse them in running water to leach out the tannins. As in leave them in a cloth bag in a stream for a few hours or more depending on the type of acorn. There is a type from California, white acorns, that naturally have little tannin and are safe as is. Course all the oaks in my yard are the local variety :(

Question regarding protection property?
Makiaveli replied to CM1021's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Maybe I should have worded that a bit different. I will still stand by my statement of the doors being locked or not. If they are locked they forced entry. If the doors are open not so much. Now I am not saying you cannot shoot, you just need to be more careful about it. I am also not saying they are not trespassing as they would be, but that does not constitue a forced entry. Shooting in the back I should have added more. In general it's a not a good option. Saying this because you can use deadly force against a threat, once someone turns and runs they are no longer a threat. However given the right situation yes absolutely nothing wrong with it.
I have to disagree. I was in my house when I stuck a revolver in a guy's face when he walked onto my screened in porch and the screen door was NOT locked, AND the front door to my house was wide open. Long story made short, the cop agreed that since I had just gotten into a verbal argument with his mother (who lived next door) I could've made a case for shooting him. Furthermore, the unlocked/open doors has no bearing on this. He entered my primary, legal, etc residence without permission and was obviously angry etc. The look on their faces was priceless. **edit** Should've read all the thread before posting, but I think the above holds. The keyword I think to fauklin's comments is "reasonable". If the government can prove your presumption wasn't reasonable, then you are likely to be charged. For example, the guy you shot in the back from 50' away wasn't armed, the neighbors heard him screaming "I'm not armed, I'm leaving" etc etc., then yea, you are gonna need a good lawyer. -
Rick and the Governor kill to protect their respective groups, but that's the reason Rick does it. The Governor protects his group because without them he has no power. Yes Rick was willing to engage in murder with the prisoners. A preemptive strike if you will. Yet that was based on a risk assessment etc and he had doubts. I don't see the Governor as having any doubts once he decided the soldiers were a threat.

No Finger Prints left on Fingers
Makiaveli replied to blueheeler47's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
MNPD uses Corn Huskers brand lotion to help take prints when they have problems getting them. -
Huh, didn't know it was legal to hunt with a pistol like that. Not that I knew what kind was legal, but always pictured some big giant revolver or one of those T/C bolt action jobs. Anywho, yet another sign of the apocalypse!!

Well, looks like I lost my hunting land.
I bet it has sewer access, and the realitor is looking at it as a future neighborhood.
Sadly this is the truth. We (in-laws live across the street) live in fear of someone nearby selling the old home place and having 200+ new neighbors. Bad enough when one house sells and they throw up 2-3 houses on a couple of acres. -
Drivers Questioned On Guns At Federal Checkpoint
Makiaveli replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Nowhere did I read that people were searched without consent. If they ask and you say yes, then the 4th doesn't apply. Also, if you obeyed the law and weren't a jerk while shooting, you said yes I did, and yes, I did and worst case you show them the spent casings. Meanwhile, the people that helped cause the roadblock hopefully got turned around to fix their mess. I think you are just mad at the cops and not the ********s who were the root cause of all of this.... -
Course there's always the possibility of the "other side" posting such things to make us look bad so as to help cover it up when the real attack comes.... Oops..sorry the foil lining fell out of my Kodiak, won't happen again....

From Miriam-Webster online....took the opportunity to post it on FB...get the holiday drama started early! [background=rgb(232, 236, 245)] assault rifle noun (Concise Encyclopedia)[/background]
Military firearm that is chambered for ammunition of reduced size or propellant charge and has the capacity to switch between semiautomatic and fully automatic fire. Light and portable, yet able to deliver a high volume of fire with reasonable accuracy at modern combat ranges of 1,000–1,600 ft (300–500 m), assault rifles have become the standard infantry weapon of modern armies. Their ease of handling makes them ideal for mobile assault troops crowded into personnel carriers or helicopters, as well as for guerrilla fighters engaged in jungle or urban warfare. Widely used assault rifles are the U.S. M16, the Soviet Kalashnikov (theAK-47 and modernized versions), the Belgian FAL and FNC, and the German G3.

The story says he thought it was a straw purchase. Liquor, Tobacco, Guns, and Ammo; you have liability when you sell those items and you can refuse to sell to anyone.
This. He still sounds like a male chauvinist, but I can see where he was coming from. It was Wal-Mart after all. Where would you go to make a straw purchase? A store with trained people, or a somewhere where you could likely wind up with a guy who says "Which one is a shotgun" when you ask for the Mossberg?
The slippers actually make sense to me. Kind of like in Zombieland where they talk about 'the little things' and how Tallahassee is looking for a Twinkie. Maybe the same reason Dale held on to that worn-out Winnebago (not like they couldn't have commandeered a nicer, newer setup) and why Carl wears Rick's old duty hat - just little things to make the overall horror of the big things survivable.
Think you nailed it. Tho with Carl I think it's more like he can "pretend" he is his dad, and thus emotionally step outside himself and do what he has to do. I mean he is a kid, and unless he's going to wind up a sociopath like Merle he has to do something to cope.
Assuming that the whole movie revolves only around Brad and few other central characters, then it won't have much in common with the book at all. - OS
My first thought as well. We can always hope for a sequel that's more accurate....

Suggestions on home defense shotguns
Oh that's what I want to do. I'm just wondering how I can do it without getting "the look" from my wife as she trumps my logic with the statement "you bought a shotgun for a 3 year old."
Well point out that in X years, the gun will cost probably twice as much. Assuming you will be able to buy one then.... -
Your prep stash is lost, everything gone... Now what?
do you pick and choose who to respond to? I gave my answer in post #6
As the OP said, it's a scenario for training, not a call to arms. Second, we do owe them a ton of money, the UN is pushing to control our access to weapons, blah blah blah. So it's not completely outrageous. But if it makes you feel better, it's our own government confiscating all the goods that you evil "hoarders" have stashed, and nationalizing all other resources. Given that you are a known trouble maker (ie gun owner, former Boy Scout etc etc) they decided to preemptively take you out. Happy now? -
Suggestions on home defense shotguns
I bet it goes bang and throws projectiles as straight as a smooth bore firearm can. What a deal. If my son were old enough I'd buy that up for him.
Buy it now and give it to him later. Not like it will be cheaper down the road. -
I have the opposite reaction. Departing form the "good guy always wins" convention makes it more tense, and emphasizes just how dangerous a world like that would be. More "realistic" drama which overrides a good bit of the inherent unrealistic premise in the first place. Since anyone seems to be fair game for croaking, it makes the whole thing a bit more unsettling. - OS
I agree. Sucks to see T-Dog get killed, but as you said, emphasizes that it isn't a safe world. Not even walls and fences can keep them safe.

I read an article (same or different not sure) where one of the organizers said everything the participants will encounter has and will occur in the real world. You order a zombie to stop, and I'm pretty sure he will keep coming right? Well so will an addict. Shoot a guy, and a minute later he gets up and tries to bite you. Who's to say a guy you shot won't regain consciousness and attack you? ETC ETC.

Foiled Bank Robbery - Troy, MO
Makiaveli replied to wipfel's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
And we all know what dental work costs these days!!! -
You never met my MiL. She has 80-odd sq. ft. "cat house" that has lights, and heat given that so many people dump stray cats/kittens out here. Pays to have all of them neutered FTR. Shoot a cat around her, and well, if you survive the beating, you are one tough hombre. I hope I don't sound like a crack baby momma over my dog. She is a German Shepherd and very protective of family/property. But she also heels when called, only has to be told one time someone is a friend etc. But as I said before, if she attacks someone without justification, I will pay the bills and apologize. If she has justification, I will sue your assets off.
-
From my research on this, you are correct. Unless the trespasser is "substantially interfering" with your use of the property, your options are limited. The is meant to prevent people from being shot simply because they step off the roadway onto your property etc. Now if he's standing in the middle of your yard and refuses to leave, as I understand it, your options are simply to call the police. Now if he's 5 acres from the property line, you have it posted etc, then I think you might be justified in "escorting" him off the property. FTR, not lawyer etc.

The vibe I got from the comics was that this was his replacement for TV, look at the heads and remember the events that lead up to them. Which is classic trophy taking behavior. Using a certain type of item to trigger memories of the events.

I was responding to a comment someone made to another post. I didn't just wander somewhat off-topic just for the heck of it. Now if on the other hand, the quoted post starts collecting "likes" then I will gladly shut up and go somewhere else. **edit** PS WTF is up with the hostility? The more I think on that, the more it pisses me off. You don't like what I said, so you want me to be mauled by a dog?
