  1. My favorite rant is the "**** plastic buffalo" on Dickerson.....I keep hearing but it was Federal money. Oh ok as long as it wasn't my tax dollars at work :eyeroll: I wonder how some people have enough brain power to walk and breathe at the same time....
  2. I believe it could be coded that way, but I imagine their logic is why make it easier for people to avoid paying for the service. A possible workaround would be for someone to click the Accept button, then go back to the link and try again?
  3. From what I've read here, unless you are convicted in a shooting, you can't be sued. So the best insurance is making sure you know the laws of self-defense and apply them. If you mean actual insurance, as in paying premiums, then sorry not a clue
  4. I have to fall on the side of the Ranger on this one. It wasn't like he was carrying a "normal" pistol and was detained for hours. He went looking for trouble DELIBERATELY and got it. Just because you have the right to carry that kind of pistol with a orange barrel doesn't mean you should. I just hope the 2A survives all his type of help.
  5. I have a turnip, I guess they could squeeze that Seriously though, I hope one day to have enough for retirement and owing some scumbag $42 million and change would cramp that plan. That and I wasn't just talking about civil court. A DA with a agenda and an election coming up might decide to take your innocent comment and fry you with it. Say something like " All that planning and preparation paid off" meaning the HCP and range time helped you save a life etc and they could twist that into you carrying the gun hoping to meet a bad guy and thus you weren't motivated by fear etc etc and nice knowing you and of course I will visit you....just as soon as the cat's out of the cradle
  6. So if I get a felony for insider trading I shouldn't be allowed to own a gun? No one is arguing that a person should be allowed to carry while still serving a sentence, ie on parole/probation I don't think. But if you have served your sentence then why shouldn't your rights be restored? Let's look at it another way, this person is too dangerous to be allowed to own a firearm, but he is safe enough to walk the streets? So that means his previous conduct was so horrendous that he is forever tainted. Then why was he allowed out of prison in the first place? So this is more a sentencing issue than a gun rights issue. I always get seriously bent out of shape when I read about a criminal getting arrested who was just released in July and who received a 5 year sentence for the same **** crime in November. Umm wait what? Happens all the time but no one makes a big deal out of it until some "important" person gets mugged or carjacked. But enough on that... People toss "Felon" around like it automatically makes the person irredeemable. Now don't get me wrong, some criminals should be shot, others locked in a hole forever to rot. And never get me started on pedophiles. But does your garden variety criminal who racked up a non-violent felony deserve to forever be barred from defending himself? **edit** FTR I am not a felon, don't knowingly have any felons in my family, etc. About as close as I come is a long time friend of mine's daughter married one and I don't associate with him due to him being a jerk as much as my work restrictions.
  7. No disrespect taken nor do I think you meant any The point is, we have the right. Period. The govt has been given the ability to deny us that right due to the laws we have passed. The Constitution, in my understanding, merely affirms the rights we have. It doesn't grant them to us. That thinking is what allowed all the restrictions that have been passed. FTR, I'm a Libertarian and so I take exception to almost all the laws that don't involve someone infringing on another's rights. Murder, theft etc so we are clear. I could argue against all sorts of things, but I am not delusional and so I know our society is too sick to handle the true freedom we should have. So I won't rant against driver's licenses, but I will object to things like even with a HCP I won't be able to carry at work due to it being a city building. Odd since you would think in a building full of police officers and armed security it wouldn't exactly be a big deal....
  8. Good point. That's an example of the type of comment that can get you hauled into court and lose once you are there.
  9. Speaking as a witness to others who OC, I usually assume that if they were up to no good, then they would have it concealed. So if it's out in the open then they either have a HCP or they are a LEO. It's only the sheeple who freak out and fail to (assuming they are capable) to think it through.
  10. It's not just about what he was actually doing. Let's say the burglar could prove that he was retreating (reaching for his running shoes say ) that doesn't change the fact that the home owner was in fear. Most people can see that since the guy ran outside, and reached into his car as opposed to getting into the car, it was reasonable to believe that he was reaching for a weapon. So that would help justify the home owner. In other words, if you can articulate why you believed you were in danger, then you are safe unless you get a liberal gun-hating judge or jury. As a side note, I've had many officers tell me to say "I was in fear of my life and or great bodily harm. I want a lawyer." Then you can proceed to say Hi Bob how are the wife and kids? That way they can testify in court that the only statement you made was that you were in fear etc. So that if you later blurt out something due to stress that could be misinterpreted it isn't admissible.
  11. His family could still sue. Never forget the lady who won her lawsuit against the furniture store due to them not controlling HER kids and she got hurt as a result....
  12. His insurance company may have threatened to jack up his premiums and unless business drops enough due to boycotting it would make financial sense to post.
  13. What Arma said. Most of the officers (speaking purely on my own behalf and as a civilian) in Nashville seem to be able to tell the difference between a citizen who might have acted a bit rashly and the bad guys who are likely to cause trouble down the road.
  14. This is where I think you are off. How can the govt. grant us something we already have? You are saying, in effect, that unless you can prove competency, then your right should be taken away.
  15. That's a good idea and one I never would've thought of.
  16. No doubt...that would be my luck.....and the odds of convincing the judge that I honestly forgot.....yea....
  17. Ok thanks to all for that. Will add it to my Things to Do Before the World Ends list then
  18. Quite familiar with Google since I'm an IT geek by trade And since I thought I was right, there wasn't a huge need on my part to try and prove it. I am familiar with BHA, at least in the sense that I recognize it now that you mention it. Again I apologize for the incorrect information. Thanks for correcting that, and I will go have a talk with the wife now
  19. Wow that sounds complicated... I will try and see if I can do that!! Thanks to both of you guys...that was incredibly fast **edit** And I am aware, the person I am speaking of found it mixed in with some boxes that were legally acquired long story short. Basically if it isn't legal the next step is to either destroy it or find a safe way to turn it in. Neither of us has any desire to add a felony to our resume.
  20. How do you measure the barrel? Externally or internally etc? I have no experience with this type of thing....from a certain point etc?
  21. I tried to search for sawed-off shotguns but didn't find an answer to this question. Where would I go to get information on what is legal and what isn't, both federally and in TN? I ask because I know someone who had a sawed-off shotgun that I would like to acquire but we aren't sure it's legal. We don't know who modified it and I surely don't want to bring an illegal firearm into the house. In short, I want to know what the minimum length is, how to measure it, common mistakes to avoid when measuring etc. **edit** FTR it's a single shot 20ga. if that matters. Thanks for any advice...
  22. Not sure what you mean by PET/PETE? And I know there are safe plastics out there, it's just that I didn't think that 2L soda bottles were included in that category? If they are, then glad to hear it and sorry for passing on incorrect information...
  23. Couple questions for you oh so educated types Do you have to have a permit just to own one? As in, I buy one and store it in case of disaster? Second, back in the late 80's I got a permit of some type since I was working at a small airport and needed it for the radio we had there. I don't believe it had any kind of expiration, but I have long since lost the actual card. Any chance it's valid still and if so would it have anything to do with Ham type radios?
  24. Link That news story shows that a single punch can lead to death apparently. So while I agree that retreat, if it can be accomplished safely, is the best option, if you can't then use the necessary force to extract yourself from the situation.
